01:04 BenBE I LOVE Bugs in Crypto Stuff: https://blog.benny-baumann.de/?p=1352 (German, SSL by CAcert)
01:04 fedaykin "Kaputte Krypto beim Indianer << BenBE s humble thoughts"
01:06 BenBE fedaykin: "Broken Crypto at the Indian << My humble thoughts"
01:13 sorear BenBE: I can't even read it.
01:14 sorear if I s/https/http/, the page becomes loadable
01:14 sorear (not comprehensible, but that's hardly your fault)

10:07 BenBE sorear: What's the matter with the page and HTTPS? If it complains because of the certificate have a look at CAcert.org.
10:08 fedaykin "Welcome to CAcert.org"
10:14 sorear BenBE: it was complaining because of an unparsable certificate
10:14 sorear cacert.org itself is fine
10:14 fedaykin "Welcome to CAcert.org"
10:15 sorear "The data does not appear to be a valid certificate"
10:15 sorear I suppose I could try a
10:15 sorear different browser...
10:15 BenBE huch? Unparsable certificate? It's normal 8192bit RSA X.509 certificate, but maybe you're missing the CAcert Root Certificate installed in your browser.
10:16 BenBE Tested with Firefox and Chrome.
10:16 sorear BenBE, I've seen self-signed cert errors in chrome before
10:16 sorear they don't contain text saying that the certificate is structurally invalid
10:16 sorear elinks is completely fine with the cert
10:16 BenBE Interestingly Chrome didn't complain the cert at all, not even it being signed by CAcert ;-)
10:16 sorear so I have no idea what's going on
10:17 sorear surely the cert parser is part of OpenSSL
10:17 sorear elinks and chrome should both be using the OpenSSL cert parser
10:17 sorear unless maybe they're linking against different versions
10:18 BenBE Which browser did you originally try to use?
10:18 sorear chrome 22
10:18 sorear which did not work
10:18 sorear I tried again with chrome 23, still no workie
10:18 sorear elinks 0.12pre5 works
10:20 sorear Safari 6.0.2 also rejects, with the following error: https://blog.benny-baumann.de/?p=1352Failed to load resource: The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be “blog.benny-baumann.de” which could put your confidential information at risk.
10:20 fedaykin "Kaputte Krypto beim Indianer << BenBE s humble thoughts"
10:21 BenBE sorear: Chromium (wonder which version) loads the site even though styles are somehow broken.
10:21 sorear Safari and Chrome can both load cacert.org, but say the certificate could not be verified != invalid
10:22 BenBE I love the error messages regarding SSL of current browsers. Is there any "technical" information why Safari rejects it? Most likely due to "missing issuer certificate"
10:23 BenBE Well, than try on cacert.org --> Root Certificates --> Install the Class 1 and 3 PEM files after validating the fingerprints.
10:23 fedaykin "Welcome to CAcert.org"
10:24 sorear I think what I'm saying is being lost in translation
10:24 BenBE Seems like it.
10:24 BenBE I really HATE how current crypto is all so broken!
10:26 sorear openssl x509 -text can parse your certificate
10:26 sorear 0.9.8r
10:26 sorear however, it has X509v3 extensions.  never seen those on a real-world cert before
10:27 sorear ahahahahah "Server Gated Crypto"
10:27 sorear I bet that's why chrome is rejecting it
10:31 BenBE IDK, works for me with Chromium 22 ...
10:32 sorear are you on a mac?
10:33 BenBE No. I don't work with half-eaten hardware ;-)
10:33 sorear certainly something weird is afoot
10:33 sorear I don't care enough to investigate
10:33 sorear sleep&

15:52 mikemol Yo, math people. What's the superclass of 'scalar' and 'tuple', or 'scalar' and 'set'.
15:53 mikemol I.e. I know 'arity' would be what I'm calling the superclass of 'takes 1 argument', 'takes 2 arguments', 'takes 3 arguments'...
15:54 BenBE mikemol: Vector IIRC
15:55 mikemol So if I'd say "your options for a type's vector are 'scalar' or 'tuple'"...except that doesn't really sound right somehow.
15:56 mikemol I guess 'vector dimensional class' would work, but I'd get either glazed eyes or inappropriate come-ons from sci-fi/fantasy folk.
