13:41 Axtens[RCo] I need an opinion. There are Harbour entries and there are Clipper entries. Some of the Harbour entries are copies of Clipper entries.
13:42 Axtens[RCo] In two tasks I've combined the Harbour into the Clipper and annotated the Clipper.
13:42 Axtens[RCo] Is this okay?
13:42 Axtens[RCo] The only time I'd leave the Harbour alone is if it implements something that Clipper can't
13:43 Axtens[RCo] command line parameters tasks being a case in point
13:50 ttmrichter Axtens[RCo]: Um...  What?
13:57 Axtens[RCo] What do you reckon? Merge Harbour with Clipper where the same code does the same thing or keep them separate?
13:57 ttmrichter I've heard of Clipper.  Some kind of database, no?
13:57 ttmrichter Harbour?
14:00 Axtens[RCo] both are compilers for xBase language. Clipper came first. Is closed-source. Harbour is more recent and open-source
14:00 Axtens[RCo] based on dBase III+
14:00 ttmrichter Ah, yes.  That part of my life is coming back.
14:01 ttmrichter I'd think Harbour should go into Clipper examples, personally, given that it's supposed to be a superset.  Where it differs, just make a second entry under Clipper saying "in the Harbour implementation the following can be used instead".
14:02 ttmrichter That's how most of the Prolog examples go.  "Generic Prolog is this, SWI does that, YAP does this other thing" whenever there's a difference.
14:02 Axtens[RCo] Ok will run with that. Thanks.
14:03 Axtens[RCo] Occasionally Harbour does what Clipper can't. In those cases, I'll have a
14:03 Axtens[RCo] Harbour entry rather than a Clipper one.
14:03 Axtens[RCo] Will that fly?
14:05 ttmrichter Perhaps.
14:23 Axtens[RCo] it's problematic. Harbour is a superset. Usually, if one sees an RC task with a language name in the implementation list, it implies that that language can do the job
14:23 Axtens[RCo] But in this case 'Clipper' may not be able to but 'Harbour' can
14:23 Axtens[RCo] but 'Clipper' is in the list, not 'Harbour'
14:23 Axtens[RCo] am i making any sense?
14:29 eMBee is clipper still alive?
14:32 eMBee does harbour count as clipper implementation? would anyone lookingfor clipper examples actually be surprised when getting a harbour solution?
14:35 eMBee if i look for prolog solutionsand i find swi, but i want generic, then at worst i'd be 'meh' but i would not say: this is wrong, swi is not prolog...
14:36 eMBee so, for a clipper usr
14:37 eMBee so, for a clipper user is harbour meh, or is it "heretics, harbour is not clipper"?
14:37 eMBee oh, he's gone:-(

14:58 Axtens[RCo] so I got as far as asking if i was making sense. I lost connection after that.

15:19 axtens back again. using Pidgin this time
15:25 axtens so like i was saying, what to do about Clipper and Harbour. I'm for including Harbour under Clipper. But what do you do when Harbour does something that Clipper can't. In that case, I'd be for putting the solution in under the heading of Harbour as putting it in under Clipper would be in some sense misleading
15:28 axtens an example being http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Command-line_arguments#Harbour where Clipper can only report about declared parameters where as Harbour can handle whatever's there without needing a declaration
