18:57 kuzetsa hello :)
18:58 kuzetsa I was noticing the footer at the bottom of the "rosetta code" mediawiki site: "Content is available under GNU Free Documentation License 1.2"
18:59 kuzetsa I don't know well enough to know how compatible that would be with adding to a project which is AGPLv3 license
19:00 kuzetsa either way, I love the idea behind rosetta code (thanks mike)
19:00 kuzetsa (for founding rosetta code)
19:02 ivanshmakov kuzetsa: I guess it wouldn’t; AIUI, GNU FDL is not compatible with GNU AGPL. (Or GNU GPL, either.)
19:02 kuzetsa hmm
19:07 kuzetsa I'm trying to make sense of the relevant quotes from GNU's "Richard Stallman" over at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_Free_Documentation_License#Conditions
19:07 kuzetsa it really looks like using code from rosetta code isn't even compatible with other GPL licenses -- scary!!!
19:08 kuzetsa thanks ivanshmakov
19:09 kuzetsa I was stumped on how to cleanly (tidy, without bloat) implement a few datastructures in javascript for a node.js project & found example code on rosettacode but ... I don't know if I can even legally use any of it due to the licensing *facepalm*
19:09 ivanshmakov kuzetsa: Alas, the very same applies to, say, https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Algorithm_Implementation, which is CC BY-SA.
19:10 ivanshmakov kuzetsa: Your best chances are that /either/ the code is trivial (less than ten lines of code wouldn’t probably be copyrightable at all), – or that you stump on an actual code library, released under a compatible license.
19:11 kuzetsa yeah, I suppose
19:12 kuzetsa like I could stuff the relevant code (from rosetta code) into a npm module and then just have my project use the code indirectly since node.js has a builtin package manager already for using 3rd party code
19:14 kuzetsa it feels so weird to have to do that to be 100% kosher with two different incompatible GPL licenses :)
19:20 kuzetsa http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Averages/Simple_moving_average#JavaScript <--- you're right, actually...
19:20 fedaykin "Averages/Simple moving average - Rosetta Code" http://rldn.net/DHC
19:21 kuzetsa the bit at the bottom is apparently an example of "how to use
19:24 kuzetsa ", and the code portion has more flow control and variable definitions than actual code (with the "code" portion being less than 10 lines) -- it's a simple enough routine that copyright for something so trivial is unlikely in the first place :)
19:31 kuzetsa turns out I'm not actually using the code directly after all, just going to write my own routine using the native push() and splice() methods on the array, since that's the most elegant way to do what I wanted :)
