00:00 J4_james On a large page that means the browser is going to be rendering the content long before it even tries to start loading the css.
00:02 J4_james Not sure if there is a reason for doing things that way, but it might be worth trying to move that link up into the head to see if it makes any difference.
00:55 J4_james Possible bug: All the "more..." links on the home page seem to send the browser into an infinite redirect loop for me (both Firefox and Chrome).
01:57 vikaton Man :(
02:11 vikaton still no captcha
02:25 vikaton ok I just sent an email to bureaucrats@rosettacode.org for account creation
02:25 fedaykin "Rosetta Code"
02:26 mikemol vikaton: Probably going to bounce. Apologies for that.
02:26 mikemol Working the captcha issue right now. All the kiddos and the rest of the family are in bed.
02:26 mikemol Well, except the dog, who I have to keep off the table.
02:26 vikaton hey, family comes first :)
02:27 mikemol Part of the issue is I switched from ReCaptcha to ReCaptchaNoCaptcha...but the docs for that did not keep up with the implementation. So I'm reading the code and correcting my configuration for what I'm finding.
02:27 vikaton why the switch?
02:28 mikemol Because I may as well have not had a captcha with plain ReCaptcha.
02:28 mikemol Hoping version 2 of their implementation (ReCaptchaNoCaptcha) is an improvement.
02:30 mikemol OK. I think that may do it.
02:31 mikemol vikaton: Is the captcha still missing?
02:34 mikemol vikaton: I see a captcha now. Does it work for you?
02:41 mikemol AFK again.

03:08 vikaton mikemol: yes, thank you !
03:10 vikaton mikemol: the captcha shows but each time i submit to register I get a 500 error :((
03:11 mikemol vikaton: What IP address does it say you're connecting from?
03:12 vikaton mikemol: 173.245.56.199
03:14 Markjreed joined #rosettacode
03:14 mikemol Markjreed: o/
03:14 Markjreed I see CAPTCHAS now!
03:14 Markjreed But i can't save any pages - 500 error with no content in the response.
03:14 mikemol Do they work? Not working for vikaton, but I haven't nailed down why yet.
03:15 mikemol Hm. If you log out, you'll see an IP address at the top of the page. What IP does it say you're connecting from?
03:15 Markjreed ^ see above.  why on Earth did you do this to yourself over the holiday break?
03:15 mikemol Markjreed: Because I honestly have absolutely no other time to do it.
03:15 Markjreed it says 108.162.237.18
03:15 mikemol This has been my first real vacation in three years.
03:16 Markjreed Well, I appreciate your dedication.  It doesn't appear to be much of a vacation from here. :)
03:17 mikemol Tell me about it. Me and most of the family have been sick as dogs since Christmas Eve. :)
03:17 mikemol But it feels absolutely awesome to get this moving along.
03:17 Markjreed Should make it easy for 2016 to be an improvement?
03:17 mikemol For RC? I think so.
03:18 vikaton RC is cool
03:18 Markjreed and for you as well
03:18 vikaton I wanted to add a c11 threads version to dining philosophers
03:19 Markjreed I was doing a new Twelve Days of Christmas implementation every day leading up to Christmas until someone went and locked the database. ;)
03:19 mikemol Markjreed, vikaton: Try again. I'm watching the logs for error output.
03:19 vikaton mikemol: just did
03:19 Markjreed me too
03:19 mikemol OK, neat. I've got some lines.
03:20 Markjreed Specifically was attempting to create  new page CSNOBOL4.
03:20 mikemol ...Really? *really*? Call to undefined method ReCaptchaNoCaptcha::logStatusError() in ...
03:20 Markjreed so it blew up trying to tell us what actually went wrong. nice.
03:21 Markjreed I think that's in the same general category as the ambulance you're in crashing on the way to the hospital.
03:22 mikemol *facepalm* https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/246209/
03:22 fedaykin "Gerrit Code Review"
03:22 mikemol Fixed in the next (not yet stable) version of MediaWiki. I'll just hack in the code change...
03:23 vikaton mikemol: if you had a simple version of an implementation, is it okay to replace it instead of adding?
03:24 vikaton Ill show you what I mean
03:24 vikaton I want to add/maybe replace this
03:24 vikaton in for this http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Dining_philosophers#C
03:24 vikaton the first one anyway
03:24 mikemol vikaton: Each language's code examples are more or less goverened by the portion of the RC community that gives a damn about how that particular language is presented. :)
03:24 fedaykin "Dining philosophers - Rosetta Code"
03:25 mikemol But, generally, it's best to err on the side of clean, expository code.
03:25 vikaton I guess if they dont like it they could revert back to the original
03:25 Markjreed Is fedaykin a bot or just someone really enamored of page titles? :)
03:25 vikaton I believe thats how wikipedia works :P
03:26 mikemol vikaton: If you really want to do due dilligence, figure out who wrote the C example, and figure out if they're still active. If they are, reach out to them and ask.
03:26 vikaton will do
03:26 mikemol Otherwise, you can always act first and ask forgiveness later.
03:27 mikemol But there's only so much forgiveness people will have to offer, so don't do that *too* much. :)
03:28 vikaton once last edit was from 2012 :/
03:29 mikemol vikaton: Then chances are, nobody gives a damn. Figure out if your code helps illustrate the language solving the task better than the old example.
03:29 vikaton I think it does, its much simpler imo
03:29 vikaton and uses c11 standard threads :P
03:29 mikemol If it does, by all means, replace it. If not, but it does illustrate a signficant different approach, add a second example. Otherwise, leave it be.
03:29 mikemol OK, I would *not* replace it then.
03:29 mikemol I'd add a second example, for contrast purposes.
03:29 vikaton Ok
03:30 Markjreed_ joined #rosettacode
03:30 vikaton I just didnt want to bloat the C section
03:30 mikemol If a particular section gets justifiably...large...we break them out into subpages.
03:30 mikemol See, e.g. [[RCRPG]].
03:30 fedaykin http://rosettacode.org/wiki/RCRPG
03:31 mikemol Yes, fedaykin is a bot. :)
03:31 Markjreed_ joined #rosettacode
03:31 mikemol Markjreed, vikaton: OK, I fixed the ambulance so it wouldn't crash on the way to the hospital. Try again.
03:32 vikaton mikemol: still server err 500 :(
03:32 mikemol ok, got some more to work with.
03:33 mikemol I'm really starting to think ReCaptchaNoCaptcha wasn't intended for use with MW 1.26. But damnit, I'll hack it into shape.
03:33 mikemol Splinters is a shape, right?
03:33 vikaton im not sure
03:37 mikemol Dangit, all I want to do is see the state of that file after that change is merged in, and I can't figure out how to do it in Gerrit.
03:38 mikemol I don't even know which revision it corresponds to once merged in.
03:38 mikemol You'd think their jenkins bot log would provide information like that.
03:39 Markjreed_ should it be prompting for a captcha solve on every preview, or is that another symptom of the problem?
03:39 mikemol vikaton: OK, try again
03:40 mikemol Markjreed_: Under the presumption that we have a working captcha that's supposed to be unobtrusive once solved once, I expandd the captcha triggers list.
03:40 mikemol I'll winnow that down again until we have it working.
03:40 Markjreed_ Not getting a 500 now, but it's rejecting the captcha solution
03:41 vikaton ^^^^
03:41 mikemol And I'm not getting debug log output. But I know what mechanism it's supposed to be using for logging debug data, so I can track down how to get that to emit to disk for me.
03:45 mikemol Markjreed_, vikaton: Try again
03:46 vikaton mikemol: still rejecting
03:47 mikemol Mm. And the log file didn't appear where it should have.
03:48 mikemol OK, I see what's blocking that. Working on it.
03:54 mikemol vikaton: OK, try again
03:55 vikaton what consitutes as an rV ?
03:55 mikemol I have no idea what you're referring to.
03:55 Markjreed_ tried again..
03:55 Markjreed_ same result
03:56 mikemol OK. That means I, somewhere, now have MW debug output of whatever the problem was.
03:56 vikaton yeah same here
03:56 vikaton some of those captchas are tricky
03:57 mikemol Oh, come *ON*
03:57 mikemol [captcha] Unable to validate response: http-curl-error
03:57 mikemol I *figured* it would be an error with the curl request, because I'm in a funky proxy setting.
03:58 mikemol I also figured it'd be a teensy bit more detailed as to what the error was.
03:59 mikemol OK, yeah, I can see it's not respecting my proxy settings. Outbound requests are getting blocked at the firewall.
04:00 mikemol vikaton, Markjreed_ : OK, try again.
04:00 vikaton done
04:01 vikaton still rejecting
04:01 mikemol ok, yeah. And still not honoring my proxy settings.
04:05 Markjreed joined #rosettacode
04:22 mikemol vikaton: Markjreed : OK, try again
04:23 mikemol Found a part of MW that wasn't emitting debug logs that I needed, and added logging there.
04:23 mikemol I should now know what, if any, proxy setting it's using, and why it chose that setting.
04:24 vikaton mikemol: whew, done
04:24 mikemol OK, it's using the right proxy settings.
04:24 mikemol vikaton: Did it work, or no?
04:24 vikaton hopefully i dont need to solve any more captchas
04:24 vikaton no mikemol
04:24 mikemol k
04:25 mikemol So, it knows the right proxy setting, but isn't using it. Now to figure out why...
04:27 vikaton mikemol: I'll continue debugging for you, but could you register my account?
04:28 mikemol vikaton: Hang on
04:35 mikemol vikaton: Email mikemol@gmail.com with the username and email address you want for your account.
04:35 fedaykin "Gmail"
04:35 vikaton mikemol: sent
04:39 mikemol vikaton: And created. It should attempt to email you a temporary password.
04:39 mikemol I have no idea if that'll actually succeed. Outbound emails are as yet untested on the new setup. :)
04:40 mikemol vikaton: Markjreed : OK, give me another pass.
04:42 vikaton mikemol: no such luck
04:42 * mikemol sighs
04:43 mikemol Wasn't expecting it to work, just needed more insight into the code flow here.
04:43 Markjreed nope
04:46 vikaton the website is REALLY laggy when edting
04:47 mikemol vikaton: I haven't done much at all in the way of tuning writes yet.
04:51 mikemol Still not expecting it to work, since I'm not changing anything of substance, just adding some more logging. But vikaton, give me another go?
04:54 vikaton mikemol: done
04:55 vikaton thatll have to be my last one, since I gotta sleep, thanks for the help though
04:55 vikaton I edited it http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Dining_philosophers#C
04:55 mikemol np
04:55 fedaykin "Dining philosophers - Rosetta Code"
05:27 mikemol I think I found the problem.
05:40 mikemol And that told me nothing. I'll have to ask on #mediawiki after I've had sleep.
