00:05 berto- how can i use pillar.get to get an element in a list?  this isn't working: application:0:name
00:13 mgw berto-: where are you using pillar.get? In a state file?
00:14 berto- mgw: contents in file.managed
00:14 mgw so a jinja template?
00:14 berto- mgw: yep, look for contents here: http://docs.saltstack.com/ref/states/all/salt.states.file.html
00:14 berto- that's what i'm trying to do.
00:15 berto- harder than I would have expected.
00:16 mgw try this: {{ pillar.application[0].name }} — I *think* that will work
00:16 mgw if you know there's an element 0
00:16 mgw And that's the only element you care about.
00:17 berto- ah, nice, going to try ...
00:19 doublerr joined #salt
00:19 berto- mgw: i have a list of roles in the pillar and this doesn't work: `salt-call pillar.get roles[0]` :\
00:20 mgw no, that won't work
00:20 berto- for the record, this doesn't either: `salt-call pillar.get roles:0`
00:20 berto- mgw: how come?
00:21 berto- oh … you're using {{ pillar }} not {{ salt['pillar.get']() }} ...

19:58 arnoldB yes, I'm using '- names' in my SLS file ( doc: http://docs.saltstack.com/ref/states/all/salt.states.host.html )
19:59 arnoldB I'm also wondering why salt doesn't append \n to the end of the file :)
