01:56 pabelanger redbeard2: Hey, just sent a pull require for you to review
01:56 pabelanger First step in getting floating IPs for OpenStack
01:56 redbeard2 pabelanger: already? you're fast
01:57 pabelanger Well, it is the first commit of a few.  Figured I would break them up and get feedback before moving onto the next part
01:57 redbeard2 n, None, None, None?
01:58 redbeard2 it just stubs out a record?
01:58 redbeard2 ah, i see
01:59 redbeard2 pabelanger: looks good offhand. you need me to merge it, or you want me to wait on it?

02:05 pabelanger redbeard2, Ya, libcloud only used network.id (uuid) when passing to nove, so that's the reason for all the None's
02:05 pabelanger Ya, if you want to merge it now, that is fine with me
02:05 pabelanger then I can talk with you guys on how you want to floating ip stuff setup
02:05 pabelanger I seen some traffic in an issue about naming, etc
02:06 redbeard2 merged
02:07 redbeard2 i'll be off and on all day tomorrow, so be patient if i don't answer right away
02:07 pabelanger redbeard2, Great, thanks
02:08 pabelanger Ya, np... me to.  I'll likely hack away more this evening or over the weekend

06:11 dpac Hey guys, I'm new to saltstack and learning it slowly. Is it possible for salt-minions to go down for few days but still be able to execute jobs of those days after coming up?
06:12 dpac Like have a job queue and salt-minions pulling jobs from that queue?

07:08 rmt dpac|away, no. If you want a job queue, you should implement a job queue. :-)
07:20 auntie joined #salt
07:23 geak joined #salt
07:26 rmt dpac|away, what you could do is to have your tasks maintain a state (or counter) which can be queried.. your job queue/scheduler can then send jobs.. alternatively, they could maintain a counter and you could re-send all jobs regularly, and it's up to the clients to keep themselves up to date.. but then that starts to sound like Salt's States.. maybe that will fit your needs?
07:28 rmt Salt states are an idempotent means to configure your system.. each task is executed with a check-build-check pattern, and if the first check says that it's already done, there's no need to do the build step. Most configuration management systems work this way.

08:01 rmt Question of my own..... How easy would it be to implement advanced matching/targeting using an external inventory?  I'd like to have the string "role=x,env=prod,dc=london" use an external source to discover the matching nodes..  And then only those matching nodes Salt knows about should actually be used, of course (since the inventory may contain more nodes than are currently up/connected to the master)
08:01 rmt ...
08:02 rmt dpac, does the above make sense to you?
08:02 rmt above-above
08:02 dpac rmt: Kind of. Still trying to understand
08:02 rmt dpac, What's your concrete use-case?
08:03 dpac rmt: Few geographically distriuted nodes which might have connectivity issues. But we want them to be in sync. So if some nodes go offline for some hours/days, they should still be in sync after it comes backup
08:03 dpac rmt: So for example if I want to add a user to these nodes, the offline nodes should add the user when it comes back up.
08:03 rmt dpac, yeah, that sounds like a job for states.  Keeping things in sync is what they do.
08:04 dpac rmt: So using states can I add/remove users and permissions too?
08:04 rmt dpac, Yes.
08:05 dpac Sounds nice. I'm still reading the documentation. If I have issues, I shall come back.
08:05 dpac rmt: Thanks a lot!
08:05 rmt No problem. Good luck!

08:07 rmt I really should give SaltStack a proper try myself..  Doesn't fit well into my work environment, but who knows what the future holds. :-)
