00:34 eliasp forrest: on non-win platforms, this removes also all configuration files

02:36 jcockhren hey, when using salt cloud with the newer Google Compute engine console, the step that involves creating a certificate doesn't exist. Is it known that the docs are old or am I just missing the section in the cloud platform console?

16:19 gladiatr greetings.  I am going through the documentation that covers top.sls--I'm looking for one point of clarification: am I correct that in a multiple environment configuration that the environments are evaluated alphanumerically regardless of their names?  the author of this page seems to have been very attached to the base/dev/sqa/prod environmental names.  Though a number of "rules" are listed, they all seem to come down to "alphanumerica
16:19 gladiatr l order for environments, first occurrence of a definition wins ignoring any later definitions"  Is this the correct takeaway?

21:36 mross462 Having trouble installing a saltmaster via a yum install on centos 6.2. Here's what I'm running into: https://gist.github.com/82a08b34c8a5e2a38892.git . Does anyone have a guide on how to do this?
21:40 gladiatr is your rpmforge repository restricted with an includepkgs or anything?
21:41 gladiatr epel and rpmforge don't really coexist well unless you're careful to maintain an include list for one or the other.

22:56 garthk raised per basepi heckling in Twitter
22:56 basepi garthk: thanks!
22:56 garthk Yipe! basepi lives!
22:57 basepi I don't heckle! =P at least not on purpose. Usually.
22:57 basepi ;)
22:58 garthk basepi: another option I have is stunnel to secure the rest of the logstash transports, but that also needs keys :)
22:58 basepi Ya, I have no idea why we would be generating a v2 key, and we definitely want our own keys to be usable. =P
22:59 basepi I have never been in either of those parts of the code, so I don't know.
22:59 garthk basepi: It might not be a v2 key, but I have no idea how to check and would rather someone else who knows what they’re doing solve it in 5min than I spend another few hours bashing my head on it
23:00 garthk basepi: so, I’m going to work on the workarounds and otherwise sit back and wait
23:02 garthk basepi: I’m having enough trouble dealing with the default sls syntax’ lack of… well, syntax. With it all just being config, it’s kinda hard keeping track of which parts of the config have which roles. Getting there slowly, but I do spend a lot of time wryly remembering my other developers’ whining about Puppet manifest syntax being too hard and wishing it were all config…
23:02 garthk haha! YOUR WISH HAS BEEN GRANTED, says the monkey paw.
23:02 basepi haha
23:03 basepi i think it's just a different way of thinking about the problem, which could definitely cause some fish-out-of-water feelings.
23:03 basepi Since I've really only ever done Salt, it feels mostly second nature for me at this point.
23:03 garthk It could be worse. You can dump an entire abstract syntax tree as config, after all. You could have Turing-complete config.
23:04 basepi Well, the YAML spec is HUGE as I've learned recently.  I wouldn't be surprised at all if YAML were turing complete.  =P
23:04 garthk Aah, I kinda like it. It acts as strong enough encouragement to escape-hatch into Python that you seem to have invested in nice clean APIs for that.
23:05 basepi Yes, I love how easy it is to write a custom state or module and just *get things done*
23:05 garthk Hey, if the XML community can XML ALL THE THINGS then I can hardly criticise the YAML community for doing the same.
23:05 basepi hahaha
23:06 garthk Anyhow: coffee, then back to work. Thanks again for prodding me to file a bug. Hopefully it’s on your side, or at least you guys like Logstash enough to nail down exactly how to describe the problem at their end.
23:06 basepi Hehe, guess we'll see.  First we have to Find Time To Look At It(tm)

23:07 garthk I thought your 1200 live issue count was scary until I saw the 12000 you’d closed.
23:09 basepi Hehe, yep, and we're on an upwards trend -- more closed than opened.
23:09 basepi Hopefully that continues.  =)

23:21 garthk ok, parametric sls files…
23:22 garthk dang; that was something like using another sls to inject parts into the master sls, wasn’t it?
