01:02 zach Has anyone added an IRC client to salt-minion yet?
01:10 jcockhren zach: there are a couple bots around that use the salt-api
01:10 jcockhren I haven't heard of a client for only a salt-minion
01:10 jcockhren s/client/bot

01:13 jcockhren https://github.com/kaithar/muhubot
01:13 jcockhren zach: ^ muhubot has an irc connector
01:16 zach neat, my idea was to have the minion connect to an IRC channel, that way I can have a visual representation of what is connected
01:18 jcockhren zach: word. so a bot for every minion?

01:19 allanparsons i'm using salt cloud (v 2014.1.1)
01:20 allanparsons any idea why it hangs after it adds the ssh key?
01:20 allanparsons the nodes come up fine, etc.
01:20 allanparsons but it hangs at: "Warning: Permanently added '54.208.139.94' (RSA) to the list of known hosts."
01:22 allanparsons and i can ssh to the box manually
01:22 zach jcockhren: that's the idea, yep
01:22 zach jcockhren: the irc server would be on the master
01:23 jcockhren zach: ah
01:23 jeblair joined #salt
01:24 jcockhren it'll be cool to have the reactor execute test.ping. then have the connector update the presence based on that
01:25 MK_FG joined #salt
01:25 jcockhren checking for alive minions is done internally, not sure if we have any way to tap into that other than the manage.up/down runners
01:26 jcockhren (which simply execute test.ping)
01:28 whiteinge there's a thing that was added a little while back for halite called "presence" that watches active TCP connections on the master
01:28 AdamSewell joined #salt
01:28 AdamSewell joined #salt
01:28 whiteinge i'm not sure if we ever announced or documented it though
01:29 jslatts joined #salt
01:29 whiteinge you can see it firing events if you put the following in your master config: presence_events: True
01:29 jcockhren whiteinge: as in see it in the logs?
01:30 whiteinge i don't *think* it shows up in the logs. it fires events on salt's event bus containing new minions that connect or old minions that drop off
01:30 jcockhren ah!!!
01:30 vejdmn joined #salt
01:30 jcockhren that's cool
01:31 whiteinge zach: i love the idea of an IRC channel  :-)

03:42 joehh allanparsons: sorry - not too clear - salt-cloud was what I was referring to
03:43 allanparsons ah
03:43 allanparsons yeah, i ended up logging a bug

03:43 joehh I have packaged it, but as I don't really use it, I'm not too sure if there are changes needed

20:28 MJGorman Hello #salt Quick Question about salt mine
20:29 whiteinge hello, MJGorman
20:29 MJGorman When mining, is there a way to specify a name (tried name=, didn't seem to work) to reference when looking for mine data, rather than for instance referencing cmd.run in mine.
20:30 MJGorman name= didn't complain. but doing mine.get on it didn't return anything, so i assumed it didn't track that option.
20:32 whiteinge MJGorman: i'm not sure i follow. pastebin an example of what you're querying?
20:35 MJGorman Here you go. http://pastebin.com/VVvkbuHU
20:35 MJGorman gist is, we want to be able to name Mine entries, if possible, rather than referencing the function/module that was run to call them again.
20:36 MJGorman Alternative is write our own module for each specific thing we're doing, but if theres an easier way we'd rather do that :-)
20:36 timoguin_ that sounds like it'd be a helpful feature

22:35 UtahDave tedski: Yeah, I think the only way is to match on a nodegroup

22:36 UtahDave http://docs.saltstack.com/en/latest/ref/states/all/salt.states.module.html#salt.states.module.run
22:37 ksalman UtahDave: what i am really trying to do is do something if the minion is in a subnet. I need to wrap the module in an if statemment somehow?
22:37 UtahDave ksalman: but I'd have to think about how to make in_subnet() useful in that scenario
22:37 UtahDave ksalman: That's probably your best bet.  Use a conditional in jinja to determine if a state should apply to the minion

22:53 peters-tx Hello there
22:54 peters-tx I just wanted to ping someone with a little issue I'm seeing and check to see if it is known; I'm using the EPEL salt-master on RHEL6
22:55 peters-tx The problem I'm seeing makes it really difficult to search for existing/closed reports
22:56 UtahDave peters-tx: what are you seeing?
22:57 sroegner__ joined #salt
22:57 peters-tx It seems when I query for active jobs, one of the servers in the list doesn't exist and is named 'jid'
22:57 peters-tx salt-run jobs.active   and under "Returned:" is the listing of the hosts the job is working against, with the addition of a host named "jid" which doesn't exist
22:58 peters-tx I'm uncertain, but I think it is causing the job to hang, even though it looks like all the hosts have completed
22:58 peters-tx Under "Running: []" it is empty.
22:59 peters-tx I suspect this might be a "fixed just after 2014.1.0 released" problem?  Since I'm running the EPEL variant (still at 2014.1.0)
22:59 peters-tx If I do a    salt-key -L    I certainly don't have a host named "jid"
