13:22 tracphil How do you schedule state.highstate on your master or minions, prefer a random 15-20 minute "check-in" time? I could use RANDOM in cron, but had rather use the scheduler in salt, but can't figure out how to make it random. Any ideas?
13:24 eliasp tracphil: use the builtin scheduler: http://docs.saltstack.com/en/latest/topics/jobs/schedule.html
13:24 eliasp tracphil: ah, sorry… didn't read your question properly
13:24 tracphil eliasp: thanks, I would love to figure out how to randomize the minutes
13:25 eliasp tracphil: there's a way to achieve what you want… let me check
13:25 tracphil oh, that would be really nice
13:26 aqua^mac joined #salt
13:28 eliasp tracphil: ok, there's no builtin "random" support for the scheduler yet, but there are different ways to stretch out the load across your salt infrastructure a bit… check out http://bencane.com/2014/05/19/using-saltstack-to-update-all-hosts-but-not-at-the-same-time/ (esp the section "Using Scheduler to schedule updates") and subscribe to this issue: https://github.com/saltstack/salt/issues/7324
13:29 tracphil very nice, thank you very much!

13:46 sergefonville Hi All
13:46 sergefonville Anyone here know how well Saltstack is supported on OpenIndiana
13:47 aqua^mac joined #salt
13:52 eliasp sergefonville: there's quite a lot of Solaris related code in SaltStack, so I'd say chances OpenIndiana works mostly well are relatively good
13:54 JDiPierro joined #salt
13:58 sergefonville is there a tutorial, because it is very unclear why things aren't compiling succesfull
13:59 sergefonville at this time it seems that pip install salt forces a zmq backend, and pyzmq won't compile

14:20 lambpha Hi, I'm trying to use a local git repo as a gitfs_remote and when I apply my state I get "Source file not found" but "salt-run fileserver.file_list" list the file that is not found. It drive me crazy...

14:59 lambpha babilen: Wise words
15:00 babilen My crystal ball says that you include a file in there that isn't found, but then we have to take a look at the states, how you reference them, master debug logs, ...
15:02 JDiPierro joined #salt
15:02 lambpha There isn't an include statement. I'm pasting the logs.

15:42 babilen lambpha: I take it that you tried restarting the master and running "salt-run fileserver.update" -- You might also want to run the master with "salt-master -ldebug" and check the master debug output. I don't necessarily see anything wrong.

15:50 lambpha So I have restarted both the minion and the master in debug mode and cleaned /var/cache/salt but I don't see any new onteresting infos.
15:50 lambpha And salt-master -ldebug return me Gitfs received 0 objects for remote file:///home/bricewge/repo/dotfiles

23:29 Linuturk I'm passing in a variable using the - defaults option in file managed. I'd like to use that variable to pull out a chunk of pillar to use in the configuration file. Something like this {% set app = pillar.get('app:{{ appid }}') %} but that doesn't seem to be the right way to handle it
23:29 Linuturk I'm guessing the {{ }} are the wrong way to reference that variable in the piller call
