02:23 salt-newbie Why is it even looking for minions when I am running salt-run (on the master server as required)
02:24 salt-newbie Here is output with debug turned on :

04:31 Aikar salt-newbie: likely cause most people using salt are 9-5 type jobs, weekend people are enthusiast or working hard on tight deadlines requiring 16 hr days (my current boat! but am enthusiast too)
04:32 salt-newbie Aikar: Thanks for that. I will reask on Monday if I haven't figured out by then.
04:33 Aikar yeah I did a lot of trial and error myself last night learning stuff
04:33 Aikar I am a developer, so not the primary user of salt, but devops is working on vagrant boxes for me to use too, so i was doing some work getting the vm environment more suitable for me

05:26 hemebond oh
05:26 hemebond I think I got it to work. As usual, mere minutes after asking for help.

05:36 hemebond Actually, not quite. Can't get these function aliases to work.

05:42 hemebond Another hurdle passed thanks to a read of a pull-request :-)

05:43 hemebond That example configuration should be in the documentation.

14:52 bluenemo Roee, you have File A on the salt master and File B on the minion and want to save a diff of those files to the Minion? Can you download File A to the minion?
14:58 bluenemo If so, you can do this in two states. Use file.managed for the file on the master and the cmd.run (creating the diff) with a watch statement to the file.managed.

15:08 johnkeates Saltines! Quick question: in a mixed client environment where multiple separate sub-companies for a larger holding company have VM's on a common cloud, would you recommend syndic and multi-master salt, or one master and simply tagging the VM's per-company?
15:09 johnkeates also, I'm currently simply targeting by FQDN to split configuration per-company if they wish so, which works good enough, but if a grain is a better way to identify specific ownership and roles, that would be an option too
15:11 johnkeates (which by the way is like: $function-$int-$env.domain.tld like pgsql-1-prod.example.com so we can select on pgsql*prod*domain.com to target all postgres production instances for domain.com
