04:09 mwpher Hi, I'm on 2014.7.2 on FreeBSD using salt-ssh. It SEEMS like updates to the master config file don't take effect on the client? After changing settings in /etc/salt/master, the values listed in pillar for master and client both stay the same.
04:10 mwpher Ive restarted the master and minion, and ran saltutil.refresh_pillars

08:31 Furao but you can deploy py3 and use it just not salt itself

16:03 slatUser7 Hello all, I've been experiencing a   'The function "state.sls" is running as PID..'  error recently where the referenced PID is actually the one of the command I've just run. Essentially Salt tells me that the command I'm running is already running (because I've just run it).
16:04 slatUser7 Anyone having similar experience and possible troubleshooting tips?
16:05 slatUser7 The problem goes away temporarily if I was to restart the salt-minion service.

20:50 overyander I've been having an issue lately where salt-master stops responding and you have to restart the service. This happens every day. The resources on the system are minimal, not showing hardly any usage for ram or cpu. /var/log/salt/master looks good except for a recurring "saltreqtimeouterror: after 600 seconds (try X of 3)"
20:52 overyander I increased the ulimit a few days ago to see if maybe that would help and set the corresponding value in /etc/salt/master but that doesn't seem to have resolved the issue. i have about 200 minions. i have the master set to use 30 worker threads. any suggestions on where to look or what to check to resolve this?

20:57 jghazally Hi im trying to update users on my master, I can salt ‘*’ state.highstate for all the minions but it errors on master. I was wondering if there was a way to run just the user section on master something along the lines of salt ‘master*’ xxxx to update user.. thoughts?

21:58 rubenb __number5__: All minions can read inforation from this mine, or is this a setting?
22:00 __number5__ rubenb: you can set the permission but mine is not for sensitive info
22:02 rubenb Ah. I would like to do something like filling a CMDB with information I get from salt. Like grains and results from pkg.list_pkgs(). This should not be visible by other minions.
22:05 rubenb An inventory_function would run on a schedule (once every x hours), get information and store it (via 0MQ) in a database hosted somewhere next to the salt master. Which the CMDB gets its info from.
