01:47 mianos I am struggling with the detail that I can't have two file.managed in one state
01:48 mianos I would usea jinja loop but the file have different permissions
01:54 mianos the problem, I think, is I don't have any rule to join them with a require as I don't need any rule to join them
01:54 favadi joined #salt
01:58 mianos never mind, just gave up the the perms and used file.recurse

06:05 Guest64530 Hello, I am doing very early investigations on configuration management for CoreOS. It appears that Ansible is favoured as it uses SSH for it's transport. I understand Salt has early work to allow this also. Does anyone here have any experience trying to integrate Salt with CoreOS?

12:00 stoogenmeyer hey , is there a big motivation to have more then one master for high-availability ?

12:26 stoogenmeyer also, what are the alternative to hosting the pillar data on the salt master directly, we are worried that a security breach and entry into the salt master will enable an intruder to retrieve secure data
12:28 pelzi__ if the master is broken into you are hosed, plain and simple
12:31 stoogenmeyer pelzi__: so what can you do? does working with salt-ssh instead of a salt-master help?
12:32 pelzi__ not much, except run different masters for different groups of hosts
12:32 pelzi__ if you have a tool that has root access on all your hosts, that tool can do anything, and you just need to keep it secure
12:33 stoogenmeyer hmm, having a master per environment does seem like a good solution for this
12:34 moos3 joined #salt
12:34 stoogenmeyer I have another question.. let's say I create and destroy machines using salt-cloud, then when I create a machine it is automatically accepted on the master. But what happens when I have two masters? I run the salt-cloud command on one of the master, will the other one accept the newly created minion ?

13:47 stoogenmeyer is it possible to have the master config as a state? Is there an alternative to writing the config by hand every time ? I'm asking because I have a runner that I want to schedule for the master to run but it seems I can only do it from the master config

14:14 eliasp any idea why a "network.managed" state on Ubuntu 14.04, running Salt 2015.5.0 just returns "State 'network.managed' was not found in SLS 'testserver'"?
14:15 eliasp it used to work on 2014.7.x
14:18 nyx_ joined #salt
14:19 eliasp hmm… https://gist.github.com/eliasp/f8a2b03a9f169b035223  - "ImportError: cannot import name _create_loader"
14:20 eliasp ok… PEBCAK … I think I still have a network state in my local module distribution (_states)
14:24 * eliasp dreams of versionized localmods, so that shipping a localmod with a fix could be restricted e.g. to <=2015.5.1
14:24 eliasp this would require something like a top.sls for localmods
14:25 eliasp where such restrictions could be realized through version-based targeting or so…
14:25 eliasp will have to think a bit about this and then file a GH issue with a proposal
