01:37 monkeybox maybe not... super uncertain about that response.
01:39 enginx01 it doesn't matter
01:39 enginx01 i was tried to runner to do it, but it cannot success.

03:42 b00n hello, I'm using gitfs as my file server backend and I have some old branches (already removed in github) in my repo with top files. I noticed that the top file in the old branches are still merge with the top file in base environment. The way I solved this issue is to blacklist the old branches in salt master's config. I'm wondering why salt still picked up the old branches even though it's removed from github
03:43 b00n and if there is any way to tell salt to use only the active branches.

04:34 perfinion anyone have a windows computer with python installed? can you test a thing for me?
04:36 basepi arnoldB: sorry for my late reply. You should ping techhat for details, probably. I haven't been involved with that at all.
04:36 basepi He used to be in here but appears to not be anymore.
04:36 basepi I can PM you his e-mail if you want to reach out to him.

04:45 ippili Hi Salties
04:46 moogyver joined #salt
04:49 perfinion so how do i get a pull request merged into both develop and backported to the 2015.8 branch?
04:49 basepi perfinion: Ideally you would just submit it against 2015.8. It will then get merged forward to develop.
04:50 basepi Only one pull request necessary, on the oldest branch.
04:50 perfinion basepi: i just submitted https://github.com/saltstack/salt/pull/27091 , there is a difference between the branches so the same patch wont apply to both branches
04:50 perfinion basepi: i can easily change it to the 2015.8 branch tho if htats better
04:51 basepi If it's not applying cleanly to both branches, you may want to submit two pull requests
04:51 basepi One for each branch.
04:51 seatan joined #salt
04:51 basepi I could mark that pull request for backporting, but if it doesn't apply cleanly to 2015.8 it's better if you just do it.
04:52 perfinion basepi: its pretty trivial for me to just make a second one, will do, thanks
04:53 basepi Thanks!
04:54 ippili with file managed, can we download file from http:// repo
04:54 ippili ?
04:54 aparsons joined #salt
04:54 basepi Yep, http and https are both supported as far as I know.
04:55 basepi You might have to provide a file hash, I can't remember.
04:55 ippili I gave a run 30 mins back with hash and everything
04:56 ippili how do i check the status or some way to find out what is happening?
04:56 basepi The best way is to put your minion in `log_level: debug` and watch the minion logs during the state run, usually.
04:57 ippili I ran salt-call -l debug and xxx.sls file
04:57 ippili so it is running in debug mode only
04:58 basepi Ah, yes, that would do it. Nothing interesting in the log?
04:58 moogyver iggy - they could be, but we're not looking to actually manage the configs, just pxe boot and reboot hosts.  seemed like the runner would be a good fit, since it already does that, just unfortunate that our DRAC's are reachable where the salt master is.
04:58 moogyver er, not reachable
04:59 perfinion basepi: https://github.com/saltstack/salt/pull/27092 and https://github.com/saltstack/salt/pull/27091 done for each branch, thanks!
04:59 basepi Great, thanks!

05:02 basepi ippili: I replied above. Nothing interesting in the debug logs?

05:03 basepi Huh. Well, I guess we'll have to do some testing. Create an issue please?

12:29 ksj hi, I have some custom modules in the _modules directory and an external pillar in modules/pillar. they work, but I'd like to combine them - i.e. put my _modules into modules. I can't seem to find much info on how salt treats the special directory _modules in contrast to the directories defined in the master: extension_modules and module_dirs
12:30 ksj any pointers would be much appreciated

17:02 schemanic_ Hello, is anyone available to help me understand a bit about salt states?
17:07 otter768 joined #salt
17:08 AndreasLutro schemanic_: just ask
17:08 schemanic_ I'm trying to understand what makes the things in a state file valid
17:09 schemanic_ like, when someone says 'apache:' is that something in the salt software that understands what we're talking about?
17:09 schemanic_ Or is salt expecting me as the author to know what package I'm talking about and use the name that my system uses?
17:10 AndreasLutro schemanic_: have a look at this https://gist.github.com/anlutro/cd0c16d1d23d55ded19b
17:10 AndreasLutro in particular the first 6 lines
17:10 Lionel_Debroux_ joined #salt
17:11 AndreasLutro schemanic_: in a pkg.installed state, the "name" arg determines the name of the package, but if you leave out the "name" argument, it'll default to the state ID
17:11 Ztyx joined #salt
17:12 Ztyx joined #salt
17:13 schemanic_ so, IIUC, in the first six lines you're saying that the package you want to install is /tmp/foo, but had you not specified name: it would have defaulted to 'my_state'
