15:05 hoonetorg hi
15:06 hoonetorg anybody online?
15:06 hoonetorg i currently write a module and i want to place a cached file somewhere
15:07 hoonetorg is /var/cache/salt/[minion|master]/< module_name >/ the right place?
15:07 hoonetorg is there a builtin var with the cachepath
15:07 hoonetorg ?
15:24 aphor hoonetorg: is a holiday in the US today.
15:26 aphor You should consider looking at how Salt caches files/pillars on the minion. It's possible that you can get your cached file behavior simply by setting up a pillar or fetching it from salt:// vfs.

18:51 gtmanfred hoonetorg: you should put your module in the fileroot _module/
18:51 gtmanfred and use saltutils.sync_modules to copy them to all minions

19:04 hoonetorg gtmanfred: the module is already in _module and the state module is already _states, some functions of it are already working
19:05 hoonetorg but now i want to extend it with a new function and now i need to cache a file somewhere.
19:05 hoonetorg ... within that function.
19:06 hoonetorg i need this for a new state module function to be able to decide wether the state needs to be run or not
19:06 fracklen joined #salt
19:07 hoonetorg i will put that cached file under __conf__['cachedir']/<modulename>/<filename> for now
19:08 Rumbles joined #salt
19:08 hoonetorg but don't know if that is what is best practice.
19:09 hoonetorg also i need to compare 2 files within that state module. that is why i asked for a comparison function
19:14 hoonetorg afaics file.managed compares checksums of files to decide if they are equal or not
19:14 hoonetorg i think i will go the same way

20:09 gtmanfred yeah, they were working on releasing patched versions
20:09 gtmanfred of the packages*
20:10 gtmanfred I do not believe they followed my idea of a meta package to do the dependency of salt-minion to add a dropin file to swtich salt-minion to be KillMode=process... but oh well

22:33 acastonguay howto install salt-master+raet on ubuntu? Is this possible? I can’t seem to find/install a libsodium…

22:57 iggy acastonguay: do you have a specific reason for enabling it?
22:59 acastonguay I’ve not managed to get zeromq to build for sles11sp3, which I sadly need to manage. But I have gotten libsodium to build.
23:00 acastonguay (Corporate shenanigans: I cannot use the sles-provided packages for the minions - have to build from source.)
23:00 * iggy backs away slowly
23:01 iggy raet is going to drag along it's own issues
23:01 acastonguay aaand it seems libsodium13 on master is correct.

23:11 acastonguay Are you suggesting that raet just isn’t ready yet, and run back to 0mq?
23:16 iggy This is the view (as not a salt dev): zmq was the only transport -> added ssh as a transport -> zmq was found to have certain issues -> (painfully) add raet as a transport -> raet guy went somewhere else -> raw tcp transport was added
