00:19 iggy sjmh: try `saltutil.refresh_pillar`?
00:19 sjmh iggy - yeah, sorry, didn't reply that I was being stupid. :)  It's confusing, because pillar.data and pillar.items listed the data.
00:20 sjmh But pillar.item didn't
00:20 sjmh And you couldn't target via it

00:28 kevinquinnyo salt ssh.user_keys seems to produce extra whitespace at the end of the keys.  Is this a known bug?

00:38 kevinquinnyo yeah i was about to search there, just wanted to know if it was one of those "Yes, we know, it's fixed already" or something

00:48 kevinquinnyo hm actuallyi think it's an extra newline() because they aren't strip()ing it after running readlines() in their wrapper for python's open() in salt.utills

03:54 SlicerDicer Greetings, I have a odd issue. I am trying to define in pillar data 'foo: bar' in that same pillar data use '{{ pillar['foo'] }} to define that same variable throughout the pillar. Is this possible? I was doing this with ansible and I am not sure why its not working with this as realisticly its both jinja.

05:04 hemebond SlicerDicer: No, you can't access a pillar value in the same pillar document.
05:05 hemebond In fact it's very difficult to reference pillar values inside a pillar at all so you're better off using something like load_yaml.

05:30 lorddaedra hello) I have single node with Docker/Rkt containers, I have friend, who ask me for hosting on my server, can I use Salt to give him access run/stop/remove his own containers and images (which will be started with his login in name and downloaded only from his dockerhub repository)? I need to create simple command line api for him because of he is newbie and can break something if I will give him full ssh root access...
05:30 lorddaedra can Salt help me here?

07:10 msn lorddaedra: you can run docker on a port instead/in addition to a socket then a normal user without root acces would be able to run/create/stop containers
07:12 lorddaedra I mostly looking for web-api, which can be used via curl request from developer console on their local PC/Mac
07:12 lorddaedra without ssh access to server
07:12 lorddaedra (they will install openssh inside containers to access volumes with data)
07:12 lorddaedra but they will not login to host server via ssh
07:12 msn well docker can listen on tcp port
07:13 AndreasLutro I think the best you could do is write a simple web app which writes data to a database, which is then read by an external pillar to feed into salt
07:13 msn then the user can use his own docker install to connect to your docker system and run commands
07:14 lorddaedra if I will install multiple dockers, how about networking and links between all this containers on different dockers?
07:14 lorddaedra (i have 1 shared static ip for all)
07:15 lorddaedra so main top-of-server nginx container will have access to static folders from their docker containers
07:18 lorddaedra I see here 3 solutions: 1. KVM 2. simple app based on small framework like Flask (and management via curl requests) 3. salt stack (but I never tried to create services with salt stack, need to learn some things)
07:19 lorddaedra solution with multiple dockers may work but I think, it will be little dirty - it will add additional networks, etc.
07:21 lorddaedra I think, I have no time (for now) for 3. way (but it's the best here), I try to use 2. and later may be switch to 3.

07:46 lorddaedra one of the implementations of 2. I think, I can run Docker containers through Rkt and use separate systemd service files for runnung/stopping containers, and use https://github.com/coreos/systemd-rest

12:52 quaie hello, I have a question regarding the cmd.run's order in a state - are they always executed in the order they are defined in the sls file (aka "Ansible-like")? thanks
12:53 brianfeister joined #salt
12:55 AndreasLutro quaie: if the order is important, you need to specify so with "require"
12:57 quaie I need to be sure that cmd_1 is run before cmd_2 and cmd_2 before cmd_3; this does not happen by default, if they are defined cmd_1, cmd_2, cmd_3 ?
12:58 AndreasLutro if you *only* define those 3 states all in the same sls file, and only have that one sls file, then yes, the order will be 1 2 3 by default
13:01 quaie many thanks, that answers my question
