03:49 devops grains does accept defaults so I don’t know why this happens:
03:49 devops def get(key, default='', delimiter=DEFAULT_TARGET_DELIM, ordered=True):
03:49 devops it’s from grains.py
03:50 devops and of course this ugly workaround works…
03:50 devops {%- set protocols = grains.get('protocols') %}
03:50 devops {%- if protocols == None %}
03:50 devops {%-   set protocols = ['ovpn',] %}
03:50 devops {%- endif %}
03:50 devops but I just don’t understand why I can’t use grains.get('protocols', ['ovpn',])

14:26 aphor giany: can you hit EC2 REST APIs with Postman using the credentials you have configured your salt-cloud provider to use? It looks like your keys are not set up properly.

19:06 ZachLanich @hemebond & iggy So I bought like almost all of the Salt books on the SaltStack site and I'm really enjoying the "Mastering Salt" one. It's putting a lot of pieces together for me that just weren't immediately apparent in the online tutorials.

19:07 babilen Yeah, good book

19:38 ZachLanich babilen Super confused about this example though: http://dp.wecreate.com/EMD1 - Can you provide input? They're talking about 2 queues (bigjob & workers) as an example of how you can distribute big jobs between multiple minion workers, but they keep using this "myqueue" example in the reactor even string. Shouldn't it be something like this?: https://gist.github.com/zlanich/3311023f606a5e4b94e82955fc8c120d
19:38 ZachLanich Is this "myqueue" string something magical I should know about or is it a typo in the tutorial?

19:45 iggy oh, yeah, that one is good
19:45 ZachLanich It's very good, but this example is confusing
19:46 ZachLanich I completely get what they're doing, but I'm either missing something that wasn't explained well, or it's a mistake in the example.
19:48 ZachLanich http://dp.wecreate.com/19cNk - Pg 98
19:49 ZachLanich If someone could clear that up for me, that would be great, because I'll likely be using the queue and I'll need to know wtf I'm doing haha

20:01 snc joined #salt
20:01 iggy I've never used that functionality
20:03 Salander27 joined #salt
20:07 ZachLanich iggy There's a sentence here: "First, let's get the Reactor set up. The queue system will always use the salt/queue/myqueue/process tag, so let's go ahead and map this to a Reactor SLS file in the Master configuration:" That's the one thing I can't figure out and don't see in docs - that the queue system in fact uses the exact tag "salt/queue/myqueue/process" tag every time instead of "salt/queue/<the_specific_queue_being_processed>/pr

21:19 ZachLanich iggy The lower part of the example implies you could be using the scheduler to directly start the "bigjob" queue and makes no mention over running queue.process_queue on "myqueue". It's weird.
21:19 ZachLanich It's like they transitioned into another example without warning you that earlier parts of it might not be relevant anymore.
21:29 iggy as I said... I've never used the queue feature
21:29 iggy I'm not sure why you're spending so much time trying to figure out something that you don't even know if you're going to use
