00:35 jgarr iggy: oh, maybe I should have tested that before asking
00:36 jgarr I just tested with -b 10% test.ping and the batches look the same (so long as the host replys). Thanks

02:56 MTecknology how to digital ocean ??
02:57 * MTecknology isn't serious
02:58 MTecknology I'm just getting my feet wet with salt-cloud so I can start deploying VM's in DO
02:58 MTecknology curious, though... how can I set up firewall rules for incoming traffic from the new address? That has to be done in my firewall which is using pfsense.
02:59 MTecknology not sure I like my current solution, but any DO VPS is allowed in on specific ports to access internal things like my git repo. Not sure how else to do that without forcing every server to do openvpn or something

04:14 MTecknology OMG! My house now smells like a delicious smoked beef hot dog
04:15 MTecknology iggy: I'm not shooting for the paranoid route, just don't want to rely solely on salt's built-in encryption
04:15 brotatochip joined #salt
04:16 MTecknology I kinda like the openvpn idea... salt-master could hold a servers openvpn user and stick that on them when running salt-cloud so each VM can connect with the same user account.
04:16 MTecknology could make it all different users, but then salt-cloud is gonna have a hard time being sane

05:52 MTecknology How can I control what salt-cloud does to provision the system? I finally have it creating a VM in DO, but now I need it to deploy openvpn stuff so that minions can connect back to the master.

07:49 babilen Linuz_: When do you get that? What is in your top.sls? Could you paste your commands, their output and state/top files to one of http://refheap.com, http://paste.debian.net, https://gist.github.com, http://sprunge.us, … ?
07:52 MTecknology I can't figure out how to execute my own script after salt-cloud finishes running. I thought I had it, script: <myscript>  and salt/cloud.deploy.d/<myscript> but I get "[ERROR   ] There was a profile error: unexpected char u'&' at 9302" from salt-cloud, although it still creates the VPS
07:53 MTecknology I'm not templating anything or using pillar data, yet.
07:53 babilen Will https://github.com/saltstack/salt/pull/35400 work on !SuSE systems?

10:22 rubenb Hi, How should I manage iptable rules with salt; now if I change a state, the old rules stay intact
10:24 rubenb salt $hostname cmd.run 'iptables -P INPUT ACCEPT; iptables -P OUTPUT ACCEPT; iptables -F; salt-call state.highstate' seems inefficient.

21:19 dionys Hallo, this could be a good UI in combination with salt: http://blitzer.rocks/
21:23 MTecknology dionys: I had to scroll all the way to the bottom just to figure out what it is. After getting that far and trying to read it, I still don't know what it does. I feel like someone wanted this in english and just used google translate to make that happen. :S
21:23 MTecknology what's it do?
21:25 dionys it executes stuff in parallel on all nodes and also distributes files…see the youtube vid
21:25 MTecknology I don't watch youtube videos
21:25 edrocks_ joined #salt
21:25 dionys the idea is the user interface wich shows status on all nodes
21:26 MTecknology salt can do parallel execution
21:26 MTecknology there's also a nice pretty web ui for salt if you want to pay for it
21:26 dionys but it has no UI
21:27 MTecknology https://gitlab.com/megasega/blitzer/blob/master/scr/uptime Why is no shebang defined? Why are there so many commented out lines in there? What's the file do?
21:27 amcorreia joined #salt
21:27 MTecknology same question for everything in the scr directory... what is scr?
21:28 dionys scripts saved by the UI
21:28 MTecknology where's the actual source?
21:29 dionys they get executed via ssh - so no shebang
21:29 MTecknology that's... not right
21:29 dionys whats not right?
21:29 MTecknology 16:29 < dionys> they get executed via ssh - so no shebang
21:30 MTecknology ^ that
21:30 dionys why do you think so?
21:30 dionys do you actually ssh node.com shebang uptime ???
21:31 MTecknology what?
21:31 dionys no you simply do ssh node uptime
21:31 MTecknology do you know what shebang means?
21:31 dionys #!/bin/…
21:31 MTecknology yes
21:31 MTecknology okay... I'm stepping out of this mess
21:32 MTecknology good luck with your project
21:32 dionys so you do not do ssh node #!/bin/bash uptime — or do you actually?
21:32 MTecknology no, that's not how the shebang works
21:33 dionys see this is why its not there
21:33 * MTecknology sighs
21:33 * MTecknology walks away
21:34 dionys anything you like to know, I’m happy to answer
