00:00 whytewolf ponyofdeath: sadly contents_pillar is the best way of handaling data like rsa keys ... but it is going to take a pardigm shift in your pillar data to pull off
00:01 anotherzero joined #salt
00:01 whytewolf you really need to get comfortable in using pillar.get to call pillars

00:06 whytewolf there is another way if you don't want to compleatly change your layout ... turn user.sshpriv and user.sshpub into lookups... and put those keys elsewhere in a better formatted directory that can be accessed with pillar.get with out having to deal with a list

01:12 buu Ok guys
01:13 buu I have two machines on the internet. Machine A) has a minion and responds to test.ping, machine B) has a minion and doesn't respond
01:13 buu Minion did not return. [Not connected]
01:13 buu But when I ssh in the machine B is up and can ping the master
01:17 buu I can even run salt-call test.ping on the minion
01:17 buu But no joy from the master
01:18 lws joined #salt
01:19 buu ok
01:19 buu It looks like this has happened because the master ip changed
01:21 buu @basepi basepi added this to the Approved for future release milestone on Feb 5, 2014
01:21 buu lol
01:21 buu 2014 eh?

05:10 MTecknology iggy: If there's any chancy you're interested in helping out, I'm struggling to figure out how I screwed up tinc.  https://gist.github.com/anonymous/d27fcf49b84d3fdb34c293d6293c282f
05:12 iggy what's not working?
05:12 MTecknology the client saying "
05:13 MTecknology Timeout from oob_camp1 (146.46.71.164 port 655) during authentication"
05:13 MTecknology It sounds like a firewall problem, but I can't find anything that would be blocking it.
05:16 iggy and connecting on that port with nc/telnet/etc works?
05:19 MTecknology working from a hotel is a pain in the ass, I keep getting disconnected
05:19 lws joined #salt
05:27 MTecknology I can't find an option to specify an interface to use with telnet...
05:28 iggy it should follow whatever routes say to
05:28 MTecknology If it obeys the routing table, it'd get blocked. That's why I set "BindToInterface = eth1", though.
05:29 MTecknology unless that doesn't do what I think it does
05:29 iggy it doesn't
05:29 iggy use routes

05:37 MTecknology I think I might have figured out what's broken
05:38 MTecknology Apparently verizon mifi devices have some magical web page you're supposed to hit to get them allowing traffic correctly.
05:43 gladiatr joined #salt
05:55 MTecknology I can fix that when I get home comorrow.

14:38 MTecknology iggy: Two problems solved! Need to run "curl http://192.168.1.1/connect.html" the first time the mifi device is used or it blocks most traffic. BindToInterface doesn't do what I think it does so I removed that line and added a static route. Now I see them at least trying to talk to each other. Failing to authenticate, but at least talking.

14:43 pcdummy tinc looks interesting
14:44 pcdummy think gonna replace softether with it (after some testing).
14:49 oyvindmo joined #salt
14:53 MTecknology If I'd noticed the state of the tinc docs before trying it out, I'd probably have gone ipsec instead.
14:53 cyborg-one joined #salt
14:54 MTecknology I feel like I'm now one step away from having this working, though.
14:56 MTecknology I already wrote the states for key distribution and stuff. I don't wanna start over!!!
14:57 MTecknology lotsa progress made, though. This probably has a very simple solution and I'll probably troubleshooting by generating new keys because that seems the most logical place for me to have screwed up.

18:52 parafly Hi. I'm trying to assign permissions to a windows folder unsing the win_dacl.add_ace module. when running the state file, I get an error message that win_dacl.add_ace can't be found. Am I doing something wrong?
18:55 ruxu joined #salt

19:21 MTecknology parafly: let us see the actual error
19:22 MTecknology My first guess is that you're trying to create a state using the name of an execution module

20:00 MTecknology include: ['some.sls']  will always fail if some.sls is not present, won't it?
20:04 iggy yes
20:04 iggy because you don't put .sls on your includes
20:05 iggy include: [some*] might work
20:05 iggy (in states... glob includes don't work in pillar afaik)
