05:26 stduolc hi, I try to run salt '*' network.traceroute www.google.com on the master, but all minion return empty output. why?
05:33 hemebond empty output?
05:36 stduolc http://pastebin.centos.org/74611/
05:36 stduolc yes, no minion give me return.
05:36 stduolc this is what I try to run.
05:38 hemebond Have you checked the minion log for errors?
05:39 stduolc the log on the master is empty. no error, no warning.
05:39 hemebond No, you have to check the minion logs.
05:39 hemebond The command is run on the minions.
05:39 stduolc no, the minions log is empty too.
05:40 hemebond On a minion run
05:40 hemebond salt-call network.traceroute "www.google.com" -l debug
05:42 stduolc http://pastebin.centos.org/74616/
05:42 stduolc this is the output
05:43 hemebond Is this a CentOS machine.
05:45 hemebond What does
05:45 stduolc yes.
05:45 hemebond traceroute --version
05:45 hemebond return on the minion?
05:45 stduolc ok, command not found.
05:45 hemebond There we go.
05:45 stduolc on centos, we need tracepath.
05:45 stduolc so, how can I fix it?
05:46 hemebond You'd have to submit a patch to Salt
05:46 hemebond To add support for it.
05:46 hemebond Or install traceroute if that's an option.
05:47 stduolc I need fix it now, so I should install the traceroute first, then maybe I need submit a patch.
05:48 stduolc thx

15:39 viccuad doing `foo salt://{{ slspath }}/bar` doesn't cut it, since I'm using `- runas: myuser`

19:04 Whissi Can somebody help with nodegroup matching? Thought I could create a nodegroupe like '<nodegroupname>: "N@<select-another-existing-nodegroup> and L@<select-another-minion-by-id>"' following "group3" example from https://docs.saltstack.com/en/latest/topics/targeting/nodegroups.html.
19:04 Whissi However, this isn't working for me: No minions matched the target. -> http://pastebin.com/raw/GvxpJf4u

19:10 Whissi Oh I understand. Thought I could combine two nodegroups but salt is looking for minion satisfying both groups
19:11 babilen Sure, you are using 'and' which would be the intersection. Use 'or' if you want the union.
19:12 Whissi babilen: Thank you.

22:27 mamolli Hi is there a way to just apply a sls file somewhere in file system. Like: salt-call --local state.apply /tmp/example-state.sls
22:27 hemebond mamolli: I don't believe so.
22:28 mamolli Pity, considering some architecture changes and puppet has a really cool puppet-apply /tmp/manifest.pp -> which is a killer feature for masterless config
22:29 hemebond Is there a reason you can't put the SLS in the proper place on the minion?
22:30 mamolli hmmm honestly... I have to put 2 files, top.sls and somestate.sls right?
22:30 hemebond Nope.
22:31 hemebond As long as the SLS you want to apply is in the states directory you can apply it.
22:32 nikdatrix joined #salt
22:32 mamolli a single top.sls would work ? The problem is I am working with bare metal configs and the users would at most produce one yaml file with description, I am pretty sure they would get angry with having to learn about structure of salt tree etc.
22:32 hemebond top.sls is used for highstating.
22:33 hemebond It's used to configure what states are applied during a highstate.
22:33 hemebond Maybe it requires an empty top.sls, I've not tested.
22:33 hemebond /srv/salt/mystate.sls
22:33 hemebond salt-call state.apply mystate
22:34 mamolli so if I just have "one" role, and want to apply that state. Say builder-rhel.sls then I just: salt-call --local state.apply
22:34 mamolli oohh ok, thats pretty ok
22:34 mamolli Thanks a lot, seems to fit the scenario
22:37 hemebond 👍
