00:31 toastedpenguin is there "easy" way to know how to define a module in a state file?  I am trying to use the module win_task to setup scheduled tasks on windows servers and knowing the proper syntax is alluding me
00:33 whytewolf toastedpenguin: if there is not a state module that aready covers an exacution module. then you can use module.run to run a module.

00:53 toastedpenguin whytewolf: ok, that clarifies why some modules have states and others don't, when using the module.run, how do you know the proper syntax for parameters available?  the win_task module has quite a few available options
00:54 whytewolf toastedpenguin: how about actually reading the module.run documentation . it has examples of how to pass variables to modules.

06:31 tkeith Hi everyone, I currently use some very basic functionality of salt (just some basic states and salt-cloud). I would like to set up beacons to monitor things like disk usage (salt.beacons.diskusage) and somehow send emails from the saltmaster to myself when they trigger. Can anyone suggest a guide that would help me with this?

12:08 ahayes I have an sls that manages my deployment and I'd like to send a message to slack when this completes, however I'd also like to send a different message when this fails. How can one do this?
12:08 ahayes (not the message, I can do that, more the conditional)
12:10 ahayes I was thinking I could use the onfail but I can't see how I can get this to execute a state that hasn't yet been executed
12:10 XenophonF maybe an onfail requisite?
12:11 XenophonF not following you?
12:15 ahayes So in this gist https://gist.github.com/alexhayes/c6312965a4133bebe54d69c2f668e465 I'd like to execute x only when a fails.
12:22 andi- Are the good examples on how to deploy golang stuff? I'd rather not do a `go get` or `go install` each time state.apply is running..
12:23 nikdatrix joined #salt
12:27 ahayes XenophonF: Essentially I'd like to execute a state only if another fails. All the examples I've seen on onfail just re-execute a state that has already run.
12:35 Trauma joined #salt
12:41 XenophonF ahayes: so you have three states, one, two, and three
12:41 XenophonF two and three are your slack message states
12:41 XenophonF two has an onchanges requisite on one
12:42 XenophonF three has an onfail requisite on one
12:42 XenophonF the slack: two state only fires if the whatevs: one state returns success/changes
12:43 XenophonF the slack: three state only fires if the whatevs: one state returns error/failure
12:43 XenophonF gtg kids are up time to make the donuts
12:56 ahayes XenophonF: thanks, that makes sense I'll give it a go.
