05:13 tellendil MTecknology: oh ok, do you know another paste that does not need JS so I can paste it again ?
05:14 MTecknology dpaste.com and gist.github.com are the first two thath come to mind

09:18 spacez320 Hey everyone -- I have a question regarding Salt API.
09:18 spacez320 I've configured an external, minion-side returner, which works just fine when I use `salt` directly on masters.
09:18 spacez320 However, when I make HTTP calls into the API, it doesn't seem to automatically use that returner in the same way.
09:19 spacez320 I've looked around documentation quite a bit and can find information on manipulating what the API returns, but not anything about using a specific returner module.
09:19 pipps joined #salt
09:19 spacez320 Does anyone know how I'd make calls into the API return to an external job cache?

09:54 spacez320 Ok, dug around in the issue queue, found this: https://github.com/saltstack/salt/issues/13429
09:54 spacez320 Which indicates that we can provide a `ret` argument to specify the returner, although I'm still wondering if there's a way to specific the default that anyone knows about?

15:09 joelcomeaux hiya folks....question: should using grains for targeting in /srv/salt/top.sls work the same for pillar's top.sls? ....im trying to use that ec2_tags.py script...works fine in states....not at all in pillar's top.sls

15:22 joelcomeaux hrmm...so, using the same grain matching syntax in pillar/top.sls as salt/top.sls, not matching in pillar....i know for sure that the 'ec2_roles:my-role' doesn't work in pillar like states...have to use the 'G@...' syntax or it blows up
15:23 babilen joelcomeaux: Mind pasting the relevant bit in your top.sls to one of http://paste.debian.net, https://gist.github.com, http://sprunge.us, … ?

15:39 babilen https://pastebin.com/raw/sm5BJTcG for people playing along that aren't into eye cancer :)
15:40 babilen "match: grain" and G@ doesn't work together as the latter is a compound matcher
15:42 joelcomeaux ah....thanks so much!...beat my head against that for too long :)
15:45 rcallphin Anyone here able to help me with some questions I have on the new Hashicorp Vault Salt module?  I'm confused with what is needed in the policies section of the config. https://docs.saltstack.com/en/latest/ref/modules/all/salt.modules.vault.html
15:46 astronouth7303 ... did they really overlook the fact that `auth.mk_token` actually has to tell the caller what their token is?
15:48 onlyanegg joined #salt
15:53 iggy honestly: A. always mention that you're using salt-ssh first B. I think there is a config that tells salt-ssh to include certain things, but probably not packaged modules...

20:24 skatz Is there an analogue of minion_blackout that works for states instead of modules? I'd like to whitelist state.highstate in minion_blackout_whitelist but only allow, say, the schedule.present state module to be used in an .sls file that state.highstate would call.
20:25 MajObviousman skatz: this is a bit hackish, but what I do is have a minions_stored directory in /etc/salt/pki/master and just temporarily move keys for minions into it
20:28 skatz that would restrict which minions e.g. `salt '*' state.highstate` would hit right? Not sure I see how that'd only allow particular states from being used...
