10:08 vb29 Hi
10:08 vb29 I have logged an issue, can anyone please have a look:
10:08 vb29 https://github.com/saltstack/salt/issues/43451
10:09 vb29 it is regarding 'alternative' values used for mysql returner
10:09 haam3r_ the mattermost runner uses '__salt__['config.get']' to query config options like api_url and hook. That is giving me 'KeyError: 'config.get''  if I change it to '__opts__.get' it works. I'm defining the config options in the master config
10:12 vb29 if I user alternative value in minions for hostname of the log server instead of 'salt' (which is the default value) then master is not able to pick the changed value and it still uses default mysql values

13:54 ssplatt notepad++ on windows
13:54 ssplatt c9.io sometimes
13:54 XenophonF ssplatt: does textmate integrate with git?
13:54 ssplatt integrate?
13:55 ssplatt its a text editor, i don’t want it to integrate with anything
13:55 ssplatt i split screen my mac, textmate on the left, iterm2 on teh right
13:55 XenophonF I'm looking for ways to make Git easier for them to use.
13:55 ssplatt sourcetree?
13:55 XenophonF oh let me look at that too
13:56 ssplatt other people here use sublimetext. seems like it has a lot of plugins too
13:56 XenophonF these are all great suggestions - thanks!
13:57 vb29 A lame question but I would still ask.... I am trying to execute this function using salt:
13:57 vb29 salt.returners.mysql.clean_old_jobs()
13:57 sergeyt joined #salt
13:58 vb29 how do i do that?
13:58 XenophonF You'd specify the returner in an argument to an exec module

13:59 XenophonF https://docs.saltstack.com/en/latest/ref/returners/index.html
14:00 XenophonF so e.g., i set up slack notifications for state runs, and when I run `salt '*' state.apply --return slack` it spams my #saltout channel

14:02 XenophonF functions like clean_old_jobs() get called by Salt automatically in the event loop somewhere

14:37 vb29 https://github.com/saltstack/salt/issues/43451
14:37 vb29 I logged it this morning...could you please have a look :)
14:38 vb29 it is regarding using alternative values instead of default in mysql returner

20:29 whytewolf i wouldn't think it would matter. but have you tried a user with a shell?
20:40 XenophonF I'm timing my highstate runs on CentOS and noticing that package installation takes _forever_.
20:42 XenophonF I think I have around ~15 repos configured, and Salt runs `yum repository-packages ... list --show-duplicates` for all 15 each time I invoke pkg.installed.

20:46 motherfsck I've got a question about extends in a .sls file.
20:46 motherfsck I'm getting
20:46 motherfsck Result: False
20:46 motherfsck Comment: Recursive requisite found
20:46 motherfsck Y
20:46 motherfsck And I'm not quite sure why
20:46 XenophonF yeah don't do that
20:47 Fredrick Tried both ways with and without shell.
20:47 XenophonF I recommend against using include/extends.
20:47 lordcirth_work motherfsck, if in A you say extend with B, does B reference A in any way?
20:48 lordcirth_work XenophonF, why not include?
20:48 keltim what's wrong with includes?
20:48 motherfsck lordcirth_work: No, it does not
20:48 XenophonF what you've done is added a require/watch/listen to a state that somewhere requires/watches/listens the one you're modifying
20:48 keltim cause I use them everywhere
20:48 keltim although it makes running discrete states more difficult
20:48 keltim but not really a problem
20:49 XenophonF I think that SLSes should be self-contained
20:49 lordcirth_work XenophonF, in a single file?  You get very long files that way sometimes
20:49 XenophonF otherwise it makes it difficult to understand what a given SLS does
20:49 keltim that gets way too messy for me
20:49 motherfsck That would be ideal, sometimes it's hard to work around existing infrastructure though.
20:50 XenophonF YMMV?
20:50 lordcirth_work XenophonF, nextcloud/{install,config,ssl}.sls seems clearer to me than nextcloud/init.sls.
20:50 XenophonF yeah, a lot of states work like that
20:51 XenophonF esp. formulas
20:51 * XenophonF shrugs
20:51 XenophonF there's more than one way to do it
20:51 XenophonF well it's time for a beer here, so I'll catch you all on the flip side

22:36 VertigoRay Quick question(s) regarding Windows minions. Has anyone tested the minion installed to a standard location (such as: `C:\Program Files\salt`) instead of: `C:\salt`? Outside of compiling my own installer, anyone know of a way to change the install directory; it's not listed as an install option (https://docs.saltstack.com/en/latest/topics/installation/windows.html#silent-installer-options)? I'm willing to compile, but thought I'd a

22:42 fenderblender93 Hello!
22:43 fenderblender93 I have a question about using Salt to set the configuration for many minions, with unique configurations for each. In this case, I am setting the StrongSwan ipsec tunnel configurations on each machine, so they must have different ip addresses, etc.
22:46 fenderblender93 I have the minions load the base state when they come online, but it seems that in order to use variables in the jinja templates, each has individual pillar keys/values and each must have a top file - is this correct? If provision hundreds of machines, it doesn't seem like Salt is suited for this use. Is there a way to accomplish setting these variables using the API and applying them to a jinja template?
