12:58 absolutejam Looks like there's no state to create the public key?
12:58 absolutejam Only the get_public_key execution module?
12:59 absolutejam and I guess I can use tha with pem_managed
13:00 absolutejam although, I guess that means I need two separate states? Since I can't get the contents of the newly created cert AND use pem_managed in a single state due to the need of jinja

14:28 babilen In a state?
14:28 _val_ babilen: yes
14:28 babilen yes
14:28 babilen I meant that as: In a state!
14:28 _val_ I meant the same :>
14:29 _val_ babilen: here: https://docs.saltstack.com/en/getstarted/config/functions.html  file.directory: .. this explains how to create one
14:29 _val_ but how could we remove the same directory we created?
14:29 babilen Yeah, and you use a .absent state to remove it
14:29 babilen (as you mentioned)
14:29 babilen https://docs.saltstack.com/en/latest/ref/states/all/salt.states.file.html#salt.states.file.absent

14:33 _val_ babilen: thanks again. No but I thought it was a function file.directory.absent:
14:33 _val_ this is what I used.
14:33 _val_ file being module, directory being function .. and absent.. no idea :)
14:34 babilen Right :)
14:34 babilen You typically just have MODULE.FUNCTION

14:34 _val_ Cool. Yeah I was confused about that.

14:53 whytewolf _val_: https://gist.github.com/whytewolf/da83c060473075b9f086ca452c512838 use that instead
14:57 _val_ whytewolf: Ah I see. - pkgs: accepts packages in each line as arguments
14:57 whytewolf yes
14:57 _val_ whytewolf: It worked partially thanks! http://sprunge.us/gbPL <--
14:57 _val_ Comment: The named service mariadb-server is not available
14:58 _val_ whytewolf: my bad
14:58 _val_ See this is the confusion. The package is called mariadb-server the client is called mariadb but the systemctl mariadb start # starts the server

16:10 roar_ if the master and minion are not on the same network, is there anything in particular i have to do in order for them to see eachother?
16:12 roar_ sorry im a bit new to this
16:12 babilen Ensure that packages are routed between their respective network
16:14 roar_ @babilen do i do that through salt?
16:15 babilen Not really .. how come they are on different networks to begin with?
16:15 babilen I mean you just have to ensure that both boxes can talk to each other. That isn't specific to salt at all.
16:15 roar_ the master is in the cloud

16:16 roar_ i can ssh into it
16:17 babilen From your minion?
16:17 roar_ yeah
16:17 babilen So, they both have public IPs?
16:17 babilen Can you ping/ssh into your minion from the master?
16:18 babilen You might have to open some ports on your border gateways -- https://docs.saltstack.com/en/latest/topics/tutorials/firewall.html
16:19 roar_ ok ill check that out
16:21 keldwud salt '<target>' cmd.run "echo 'foo bar baz' | awk '{ print $2 }'"
16:21 keldwud expected output is bar, actual output is all columns
16:21 keldwud I can get cut to work but not awk. does it have something to do with the braces?
16:23 keldwud or to put it another way, has anybody successfully used awk over salt cmd.run?
16:23 keldwud if so, can you tell me how you got it working?
16:24 keldwud ok n/m, got it. I have to escape out the variable

20:00 ooboyle oops :)
20:03 ooboyle I have the following jinja in a state file that I'm using to assign a grain based on membership in a specific subnet. ideally, I'd like to populate a file on disk with a comma-delimited (or json, if necessary) list of 150 or so subnets that map to one value each. Is there a way to parse that file from the jinja so that grains values are populated according to the values in the file?
