03:00 XenophonF apache-formula needs some serious TLC
03:00 XenophonF does anyone actually use it for reals?
03:01 hemebond I think I used it before I switched to Nginx.

06:21 MTecknology Was there something about moving the cloud map from minion pillar to master pillar?
06:25 kellyp joined #salt
06:28 MTecknology I can't remember if that was a thing in some update or if it's something I imagined, but I upgraded to 2017.7.x and now salt-run and salt-call cloud.* are not able to find the map file.
06:29 MTecknology salt 'master' cloud.list_images works as expected
06:30 MTecknology err.. s/list_images/full_query/

15:00 hexa- I have a git.latest state that pulls a repo that has a config.json I have to overwrite to build the software
15:00 hexa- this means the repository is always in a dirty state
15:00 hexa- therefore fast-forward fails and I have to resort to force_fetch
15:01 hexa- but with force_fetch it will always reset, because it notices we changed config.json and reset/configure/build even though nothing changed in the upstream repo
15:03 hexa- I've considered resetten the config.json to repository default after a successful build, but that's kind of an ugly hack
15:03 XenophonF yeah there's no way to make that idempotent
15:03 zer0def joined #salt
15:03 hexa- yeah, pretty much
15:03 XenophonF I have the same problem - https://github.com/irtnog/salt-states/blob/development/openid-ldap/init.sls
15:04 XenophonF so I just force-reset and chcon -R it all the time
15:04 XenophonF at some point I mean to patch that program to read a local config file separate from the defaults
15:04 hexa- good luck, I've talked to my upstream … hell might freeze over first
15:05 hexa- it's a convenience factor for him
15:05 hexa- so he doesn't even consider adding it to .gitignore
15:17 XenophonF my upstream is unmaintained :D

19:11 MTecknology absolutejam: I'm not sure if that's even a thing. That's probably why only the cloud execution module is the only one able to read "cloud" from pillar.

20:01 laertus according to these docs:  https://docs.saltstack.com/en/latest/ref/modules/all/salt.modules.state.html
20:01 laertus "salt '*' state.apply" can take the additional argument "test" to "Run states in test-only (dry-run) mode"
20:02 al joined #salt
20:02 laertus but later it gives an example of "salt '*' state.apply test" as meaning "Run the states configured in salt://test.sls (or salt://test/init.sls)"
20:02 laertus this is super confusing
20:02 cyteen_ joined #salt
20:03 laertus especially as the syntax for applying individual sls files also itself can take an optional argument of "test"
20:03 laertus to mean "Run states in test-only (dry-run) mode"
20:04 laertus so my first question is:  how does one actually run a highstate while telling salt to "Run states in test-only (dry-run) mode" ?
20:04 laertus is it "salt '*' state.apply test" ?
20:04 laertus or "salt '*' state.apply --test" ?
20:05 laertus i'm guessing it's not the latter, because for the "pillar" argument they give the example of:   salt '*' state.apply test pillar='{"foo": "bar"}'
20:06 laertus so i guess it must be "salt '*' state.apply test" but then i'm not sure how that gets distinguised from the command to "Run the states configured in salt://test.sls (or salt://test/init.sls)"

20:49 XenophonF test is a keyword argument (kwarg) for the execution module function you're calling
20:49 XenophonF it is not a CLI argument
20:49 XenophonF so it would be `salt '*' state.apply test=True`

22:28 MTecknology laertus: "salt '*' state.highstate"  "salt '*' state.highstate test=True"  "salt '*' state.sls foo"  "salt '*' state.sls foo test=True"   <-- all valid, two will test and two will modify.   That'll look for foo.sls (or foo/init.sls).  If you named it s/foo/test/ instead, you have the questions you're asking.
22:29 laertus ah, ok
22:29 laertus that makes a lot of sense
