01:41 cilkay Hello. Is there a way to use reactors on a masterless minion?

02:00 iggy I think yes
02:01 iggy https://docs.saltstack.com/en/latest/topics/reactor/ has multiple mentions of masterless, so I'd guess yes (looks like for 2017.7.2 or later is your best bet)

02:22 saltslackbridge <gtmanfred> https://blog.gtmanfred.com/masterless-reactor.html
02:22 saltslackbridge <gtmanfred> you can do it in 2016.11, but it requires copying the reactor engine from nitrogen

12:49 XenophonF I must be doing something wrong in my Pillar SLS, and the JSON rendering errors are just proximate to the actual cause
12:50 XenophonF I tested a minimal Pillar SLS with import_json plus |yaml, and it rendered perfectly.

13:53 XenophonF I commented out a YAML block that had something like {{ imported_json|yaml }} in the middle of it
13:53 XenophonF when I removed the commented YAML block, the Pillar SLS in question rendered perfectly
13:59 XenophonF now I'm kind of worried that on FreeBSD at least, /var/cache/salt is world-readable including /var/cache/salt/master/git_pillar
