20:52 yetatore hello
20:52 yetatore left #sdl
20:52 yetatore joined #sdl
20:53 yetatore hi
20:53 yetatore left #sdl
20:53 yetatore joined #sdl
20:53 yetatore fuf... connection problems...
20:54 yetatore someone here?
20:58 FROGGS yetatore: hi
20:58 yetatore hi!
20:59 yetatore I have some questions about SDL/SDLx, and im hurry because I will use it in LudumDare, which begins in 4 hours :)
21:10 FROGGS well then, ask
21:11 yetatore okay, first
21:12 yetatore sdl rect contains floats or ints?
21:13 yetatore using SDL::Sprite I notice that when I sum a num < 1 to x/y doesnt anything!
21:13 FROGGS rect contains ints, cause it is about pixels on screen
21:13 yetatore and using the step variable always I have flotating point numbers
21:13 yetatore cool
21:14 FROGGS and might be true for a sprite to cast the thing to int, but I am not sure though
21:14 yetatore so I have to write some helper structure to hold the real position... or there is something writen in sdlx?
21:16 FROGGS perhaps the sdlx::layermanager
21:16 FROGGS I think there is an example script (in the examples folder), it is a chessboard I think
21:17 FROGGS the layermanager knows positions and can draw a stack of images
21:17 FROGGS but it does not support sprites though
21:17 yetatore only recognizes pixels
21:17 yetatore so, no float
21:17 yetatore ok, no problem, easy to write
21:18 FROGGS perhaps steal ideas from http://yapgh.blogspot.de/2011/03/sdl-perl-game-contest-week-1-roundup.html
21:18 yetatore yeah
21:18 FROGGS http://yapgh.blogspot.de/2011/03/sdl-perl-game-contest-week-2-roundup.html
21:18 FROGGS http://yapgh.blogspot.de/2011/03/sdl-perl-game-contest-week-3-roundup.html
21:19 FROGGS http://yapgh.blogspot.de/search/label/Contest
21:19 yetatore there's no builtin collision detection right?
21:19 FROGGS you could use Box2D or Collision::2D
21:20 FROGGS Box2D is not easy to grok though
21:20 yetatore I know, too complex and powerful
21:20 yetatore not for a gamejam :)
21:20 yetatore I see Collision::2d
21:22 yetatore Fine, last!
21:23 yetatore sdlx::sound works with sfx and music in the same way?
21:23 yetatore I mean, streamed vs pre-loaded
21:24 FROGGS you can play soundfiles, and you could stream in theory, but therefore you'd have to fill the buffer via a C callback
21:24 FROGGS which might or might not a good idea depending on your platform
21:25 yetatore so, I go to the clasic SDL::Audio, SDL::Mixer :)
21:25 FROGGS (C callbacks are not very stable on some platforms)
21:25 FROGGS just don't use mixer::effects for example :o)
21:25 yetatore no no!@
21:26 yetatore Im a bit new in perl, but I used SDL about 2 years
21:26 yetatore so I think that Im prepared to the war hehe
21:26 FROGGS k
21:26 yetatore ok, thanks!!
21:26 FROGGS :o)
21:26 FROGGS have fun!
21:27 yetatore I will pass the final game here
21:27 FROGGS awesome! :o)
21:27 yetatore bb!
21:27 yetatore left #sdl
