00:11 Obtuse soi?
00:12 tesla4d Yeah, it's the thing that makes Sam make helicopter noises.
00:18 Obtuse i'm spending some time remember how to bias transistors
00:18 Obtuse I have an electrical degree.
00:18 Obtuse but i did software work all throughout my projects and internships
00:19 Obtuse also, i have only used NPN. not PNP transistors
00:20 masterofmonks http://www.tpub.com/neets/book7/25b.htm
00:20 masterofmonks Next time, use a wider spatula.
00:21 Obtuse ?
00:21 masterofmonks The link is for you Obtuse
00:21 Obtuse yes.
00:21 Obtuse but wider spatual?
00:21 Obtuse spatula
00:21 masterofmonks It is mighty difficult to flip pancakes with a narrow spatula.
00:23 Obtuse but what is that advice directed at?
00:23 masterofmonks Life in general.
00:27 Obtuse I wish i had time to just sit around and learn
00:27 Obtuse and not actually go to work
00:27 Seroster oooo
00:27 Obtuse but i found taht to be really expensive
00:28 masterofmonks Unless you are Seroster who sells his semen to science.
00:28 Seroster arr
00:28 Seroster My semen is green!
00:34 LinuxH4x0r TMI SEROSTER!!!

00:47 Seroster I got my wetvac engine hooked to an 2l bottle, glue is settling atm, then I will screw the motor to my vent, make a nice box for the electronics, apply power and then I have an air circulation system
00:48 Seroster That will sure as hell be nice this summer

01:08 masterofmonks Hmm.
01:08 masterofmonks What did moths bump into before lightbulbs?
01:08 Seroster Other sources of IR?
01:09 Seroster And what did ticks live in before there was fur?
01:09 cctoide so... the GG stream appears to be up
01:10 cctoide I wish there was a dunking bird in the shot somewhere so I could tell if it froze or not :[
01:11 Seroster Btw, nazis are stupid. Here a nazi beat up a guy on the street, and when the court asked "Was it politically motivated?" he said "no"  and when they asked "Why did you do it" he said "He looked like a commie!"   =D
01:12 Photon939 masterofmonks: I was camping once and a huge beetle flew into the propane stove
01:12 masterofmonks Photon939: Wait until you hit a rinocerous beetle at 90 miles an hour.
01:12 Seroster cctoide, pr a grandfather clock
01:13 Photon939 lol
01:13 cctoide Also, this is pretty crazy. Driver of an articulated bus is shot by a passenger, bus careens across two lanes of traffic, off a bridge, onto the roof of an apartment building and then onto the street below
01:13 cctoide http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=19981128&slug=2785924
01:13 cctoide Nov 1998
01:13 Seroster Motive?
01:14 Seroster "who had been shot in the arm, died after being thrown out the bus windshield " SEATBELT, motherfucker!
01:15 Photon939 I tried the heat gun desoldering method today
01:15 cctoide "funnily" enough I came across this bridge because I was reading the article on suicide bridges
01:15 Seroster Did it work, Photon939 ?
01:15 Photon939 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1181169/CIMG2389.jpg
01:15 Photon939 before
01:15 tesla4d Uh-oh.
01:15 Photon939 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1181169/CIMG2432.jpg
01:15 Photon939 after
01:15 tesla4d I'd better call my brother and make sure he wasn't on that bus.
01:16 Seroster Photon939, gay!
01:16 cctoide In 1998?
01:16 Seroster tesla4d, 1998...
01:16 tesla4d Oh, whoops
01:16 Photon939 gay?
01:16 Seroster Your brother was in diapers back then =P
01:16 tesla4d Not quite.
01:16 Seroster Born?
01:16 Seroster He might have had a poop fetish!
01:16 tesla4d He's only two years younger than I am.
01:17 masterofmonks And you are?
01:17 Seroster I have no idea how old you are, you could be 25 for all I know
01:17 Obtuse i'm 26
01:17 Seroster And you're not tesla4d.
01:17 Obtuse nope
01:20 tesla4d Old enough to live in my boyfriend's house, own a Civic, and be in college.
01:20 tesla4d It's not like I was born ten years ago.
01:20 Seroster You could be 17 then
01:20 Seroster And a five year old in diapers would be strange but not unheard of
01:22 cctoide so every time there's a game or any form of logic simulation available online, there's a mad nerd rush to build a CPU in it
01:22 cctoide I tried finding out if anyone's ever tried to make a homebrew CPU from discrete components
01:22 Seroster Does wood count?
01:23 cctoide The elusive computer wood?
01:23 Obtuse ccotide, why not just build the CPU using an FPGA?
01:23 Obtuse do it up in VHDL
01:24 Obtuse oh nvm
01:25 Obtuse I think i've seen a person make a cpu using Relays
01:25 Obtuse loud mofo
01:25 Seroster Make a CPU in the powder game =D
01:25 Seroster http://dan-ball.jp/en/javagame/dust/
01:26 cctoide people have done it in Powder Toy
01:26 Sgt_Lemming joined #thegeekgroup
01:26 cctoide it has actual electricity though
01:26 cctoide also, heh, I get the feeling the GG Ustream won't have chat enabled
01:27 Seroster Why the fuck not?
01:28 cctoide It's pretty much the same as this channel, it's not under GG control
01:28 Seroster Neither is Ustrem
01:32 Seroster What is 21inches, weighs 20lbs and makes me scream at night?
01:33 Seroster A fuckig chair!
01:33 cctoide an imperial unit?
01:33 cctoide oh
01:35 Obtuse a baby?
01:35 Seroster My sister in law had her second about 8 hours ago
01:36 Obtuse oh wow
01:36 Obtuse congrats to her
01:40 Seroster ^ ^
01:41 Seroster Took her 20 minutes from when she came into the hospital to when the baby was out and screaming =P
01:43 mikemol God, that's huge.
01:44 Seroster The chair is 21in 20lb... The baby isnt
01:44 Seroster 3800gram 50cm
01:44 Seroster YOU do the math
01:45 Seroster (It's pretty much exactly average)
01:46 Seroster 3500-4000 48-52 is concidered healthy
01:48 Sgt_Lemming mmmm, bell curve
01:56 Obtuse so i want to build an app that goes to thegeekgroup.org/membership/member-portal and reads everything on the page
01:56 Obtuse since that is the only part of the site that I ever visit
01:56 Obtuse and am always curious if it updates
01:57 Obtuse I wish there was a RSS feed integrated
02:00 Obtuse seems like what i want to do would be better via RSS on the site
02:03 cctoide the average quality of YouTube videos would increase if you deleted everything set to Requiem for a Dream
02:03 cctoide this is good though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Cq_QO_4Cx4
02:06 Seroster the email adress is info@thegeekgroup.org, huh?
02:07 Seroster cctoide, and while you are at it, why not delete evrything with the 009 sound system?
02:07 Seroster http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WPCLda_erI
02:07 cctoide heh, yeah, audioswap killed that one
02:08 Seroster It isnt bad.. But overused
02:08 cctoide it screams european for some reason
02:08 Seroster ^o)
02:09 Seroster Screams dutch if anything
02:09 cctoide also I hate Crazy Frog for taking a dump on lots of perfectly good songs and making people think they're "that Crazy Frog song"
02:09 cctoide mainly Axel F
02:09 Seroster Heh
02:09 Seroster Not to mention the HORRIBLE popcorn cover
02:09 Seroster Really, music is only good until it gets overhyped.
02:10 cctoide Harold Faltermeyer (composed Axel F) has a bunch of great scores
02:10 Seroster Btw, great if you are into hardstyle/trance/jumpstyle... 24/7 live stream radio. 3 channels in one, Hard, Harder and Hardest, if one sucks the other often have something good.
02:10 cctoide they're all very 80s too
02:11 Seroster Really, good music ended in the 80s
02:11 Seroster Even the kids of today hate their music
02:11 cctoide I discovered electro-industrial a few months ago
02:12 cctoide not a fan of growled vocals, but it sounds good
02:12 cctoide through this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGNBY1u4Muo
02:12 cctoide that one is instrumental though
02:13 Seroster I love Cradle of Filth, until the singer unleashes his... crap.
02:13 Seroster If he shut the fuck up I would buy their music
02:13 cctoide yeah, that's the problem with Aesthetic Perfection
02:14 cctoide almost every track has growly singing
02:14 Seroster Thats the problem with most music nowdays, the few bands that have good instrumental have crappy vocal.
02:14 Seroster One of the few mainstream exceptions to this is Rammstein
02:14 cctoide it kind of works in some tracks though, when it's actually rhythmic
02:14 Seroster I love Till's voice
02:15 Seroster Btw, doesn't it piss you off that this is known as "That House song" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7K72X4eo_s
02:15 cctoide like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyB6LYIP3U0
02:15 cctoide yeah, that song is pretty amazing
02:15 cctoide House over here doesn't use it, though, due to licensing restrictions
02:15 Seroster It's like wiping your ass with silk
02:16 Seroster Over where?
02:16 cctoide eh... there's a list on Wikipedia
02:16 Seroster Or you just tell me where you live ;P
02:17 cctoide well, Portugal for one. It's just entertaining because there used to be an exhaustive list of every country where the song had to be replaced
02:17 Seroster One of the most lovely songs ever made; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4K6ZxDwi34
02:18 Seroster Well, they got some pretty fucked up lyrics, that makes for fun songs if you know german.
02:18 cctoide I don't remember what the deal was with the English versions of Rammstein songs
02:19 Seroster Whaaaat?
02:20 Seroster That is ridicilous
02:20 Seroster It's like cooking sushi.
02:20 Seroster It's like fapping with a rapex
02:20 masterofmonks Only one song by Rammstein shoudl be sung in English.
02:20 masterofmonks And that is Stripped.
02:20 Seroster It's like cooling your coffee
02:21 Seroster Well, America then?
02:21 masterofmonks Well I suppose that one too.
02:21 Seroster ^^
02:22 Seroster LOL! Comment flame war in the rammstein comment sections... "NAAAZIS!"
02:22 Seroster ...Facepalm.
02:23 cctoide Comment flame wars on every video with over 10k views pretty much
02:23 masterofmonks Godwin's Law.
02:23 Seroster Godwin was fucking retarded.
02:23 Seroster And his law is worse than Hitler!
02:23 masterofmonks But right, in the end, someone screams "Nazi" and it goes to shit after that.
02:24 cctoide I have this theory that people are led to post stupid, ill thought comments on YouTube because the site's design makes comments out to be little more than grafitti
02:24 Seroster Really, when ANYONE runs out of arguments and goes for pure ad hominem.... That's when the shit hits the fan.
02:24 Seroster I'll second that, cctoide!
02:25 masterofmonks For you Seroster http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNOgIoXj8PM
02:25 cctoide I get the feeling if the font was one or two points bigger, comments were separated and threaded, and the poster's username were more easily visible, people would feel (slightly) less inclined to post random shit and hit the button
02:25 Seroster Sure, I think that profanity and personal insult has a part in any argumentation, because it makes it more interesting
02:25 Seroster Never underestimate the stupidity of stupids, cctoide
02:26 masterofmonks Well Men In Black said it best...
02:27 masterofmonks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkCwFkOZoOY
02:27 Seroster I love the nigger.
02:28 Seroster I know his name, but when he is in movies, he is The nigger.
02:28 Seroster "Oh, new movie! And it got the nigger! Time to go to the movie store, arr!"
02:30 Seroster And masterofmonks, that cover is the worst cover ever made.
02:30 masterofmonks Yeah, about that... It may not be so in Sweden, but "nigger" is considered to be fairly offensive in the englis speaking parts of the world, especially the U.S. And though I don't think that the U.S. opinion if law or anything of the like but I feel that since the majority of the people in this channel are from the U.S. you might want to know that you may be offending someone.
02:31 Seroster Not being offended isnt a human right
02:32 masterofmonks Well no, but imagine for a moment if 90% of the people in the channel did a /ignore on you.
02:32 Seroster That would be amusing
02:32 masterofmonks For how long?
02:32 Seroster And if people are so easily offended I don't think I'd want to talk to them anyway

02:43 BatSteve Really?  Did XKCD get into it?
02:43 masterofmonks Yes, because people can't google Order of Opperations.
02:45 masterofmonks I don't care that the teacher taught you this neat little mnemonic device in Algebra I that works 90% of the time....

02:48 BatSteve Yeah.  I did it wrong and got 2.
02:50 masterofmonks BatSteve: Right, the problem is that some huge number of people are doing it wrong and then using recursive logic to justify why they did it.
02:50 Woshin What's the "Over" part stand for? Or is that meant to be used as a phrase and it just puts a vowel in there so you can say it and remember it?
02:50 cctoide Ahahah. A fair amount of first page google results for "implicit multiplication" are related to this
02:50 cctoide I guess it googlebombed itself
02:52 cctoide I also got 2 at first, and from what I've gathered in certain contexts implicit multiplication would be prioritized. I'm not getting into math arguments though :x
02:52 masterofmonks Then there were the people goign "I went to Wolfram Alpha and it was wrong!!"
02:52 masterofmonks http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=48%C3%B72%289%2B3%29
02:53 exor674 heh, now that I read that right, the discussion makes sense
02:53 exor674 I totally read that as a plus sign ( silly font )
02:54 BatSteve The fact that there's controversy over this reminds me of the Monty Hall problem
02:54 cctoide I also never got what the "real" answer to the plane on conveyor belt problem was, but I don't really want to set it off in here
02:55 masterofmonks cctoide: Well you have a pilot right here.
02:55 BatSteve cctoide: I'm fairly certain that I have a handle on the problem.  if you pm me I can maybe help you out
02:55 BatSteve or if you don't care, that's cool
02:55 masterofmonks BatSteve: Go head and settle it.
02:56 cctoide Well, my instinctive answer is "it doesn't take off", because it would never generate any lift
02:57 cctoide IIRC the discussions usually came to how people expected the landing gear to work, though
02:58 BatSteve Yeah.   What needs to get settled from the start is whether or not the wings are moving.
02:58 BatSteve Forget the gear itself
02:58 BatSteve If the wings move forward through the air (or alternatively, if the air moves backward over them) the plane can take off
02:59 BatSteve If the conveyor belt is keeping the wings from moving forward, then no lift = no takeoff
02:59 masterofmonks If you put a rocket on a conveyor would it move?
02:59 cctoide also, I may have a thin grasp on the physics involved here, but it also seems that people's "eventually it won't matter, it will simply take off on engine power alone" would only hold true if there were no friction on the landing gear axles
03:00 masterofmonks It's more about relative velocity I think.
03:00 cctoide What kind of rocket?
03:00 masterofmonks A geosyncronous satellite is falling at the same rate past earth as the rotational period of the planet.
03:01 cctoide well, it'd be able to take off if there were a 300 knot headwind for some reason
03:02 masterofmonks The bigger question to me, is angle of acceleration.
03:02 masterofmonks If your conveyor is perfectly level but you are accelerating at a 20 degree angel to that....
03:02 masterofmonks angle*
03:03 cctoide I'd expect a Harrier or an Osprey could take off in the same situation
03:03 BatSteve masterofmonks: are you currently discussing rockets or airplanes?
03:03 BatSteve if you're talking about rockets, I know nothing about them and will stay quiet.  If you're talking about airplanes, I'll consider myself part of the discussion
03:04 masterofmonks Both.
03:04 masterofmonks Because the source of acceleration shoudl be agnostic to the situation.
03:04 masterofmonks should*
03:04 masterofmonks Er, the situation should be agnostic to the source of acceleration.
03:05 masterofmonks Because the wings don't provide acceleration, the engines do.
03:05 BatSteve your statement regarding engines is correct.
03:05 masterofmonks So it's about angle of acceleration.
03:06 masterofmonks If it is level, then no the plane should not lift off, but if it is at an angle to level...
03:07 cctoide wouldn't engine power determine the minimum angle needed to take off?
03:07 cctoide and since it's usually assumed the engines are infinitely powerful in that problem...

03:10 BatSteve cctoide: to answer your previous question, yes, it is possible for an aircraft to lift off on nothing but engine power
03:10 BatSteve But it's rare

03:11 cctoide BatSteve: I wonder if any of the VTOL planes can do VTOL on jet power alone

03:12 cctoide Captain_: I was wondering earlier if you guys got any hardware character generators (for overlays) with the TV station donations?
03:13 BatSteve I'm behind the times on the current generation of VTOL aircraft but it wouldn't surprise me
03:13 Captain_ We have some stuff, I know we have an overlay generator coming, and we have a chromakey unit in the console.
03:13 Captain_ We're *barely* operating, there's a lot more to do.
03:14 Captain_ We have Genlock working though, and we have power to the switcher, so it's a start.
03:14 cctoide Ah, cool
03:15 Captain_ This will get a LOT better in the coming weeks, right now we'll be happy to get a stable 24hr stream going.

12:57 Captain_ G'morning gentlemen.
12:58 mikemol Mornin'
12:58 mikemol So we're supposed to get some storms this morning. That'll be nice. :)
12:59 mikemol Following that, the forecast says 'WIND!'. I'm going to try to make it out to Grand Haven and get some pics of the beach and lighthouse with the massive waves that should come.
13:00 Captain_ That's not a bad idea
13:00 * mikemol needs another 55-300mm lens.
13:00 Captain_ Ask Moose about her dildolens sometime.
13:01 mikemol Dagny and I have one to split between us. Sometimes I just want to spend all my time in there, though. :)
13:01 mikemol Huh.
13:01 mikemol That's an unfortunate sequencing of statements...

13:05 Captain_ My entire work today consists of getting my motorcycle to start, and going shooting.
13:05 mikemol Nice. What do you shoot?
13:06 westmi joined #thegeekgroup
13:06 Captain_ Long-Range precision shooting. Primarily .308 or .338 Lapua, some 7.62 NATO.
13:07 mikemol What range/distance do you practice at?
13:07 mikemol I've fired 7.62 a few times, but not the other two.
13:07 mikemol I'm also not a good shot, really.
13:08 Captain_ Depends on what I'm shooting. If I'm plinking with rimfire it's 100m. If I'm shooting Ma Belle it can be up to 1kM. Typically I shoot in the 600-800 range.
13:08 Captain_ And if I'm teaching someone to shoot for the first time, it's 50m
13:09 Captain_ If I'm teaching pistol it's typically at 7m
13:09 mikemol Only time I ever really shot distance, it was with rimfire at 25m, I think.
13:09 Captain_ At 25m the bullet (.22) is still climbing, lol
13:10 mikemol 7m is about where I shoot pistol. I can't really hit a small target, though. I'll miss a bowling pin from that range. :-|
13:10 Captain_ Ballistics of a typical 40gr .22 round have an apex at about 50-60m with tumble starting at about 120m.
13:11 Captain_ If I'm showing off I use a standard NRA 50-foot rifle target (It has a set of 12 targets on one sheet, each about an inch and a half in diameter).......at 100 meters.
13:12 * mikemol is off to a CFI meeting in a bit.
13:12 mikemol Second round of a bit on Nietzche today.
13:12 Captain_ For centerfire I typically use a steel plate. The big one is 18" (which is damn small at 800m).
13:12 mikemol Hm
13:12 Captain_ I donated computers to them.
13:13 Captain_ Went out to the station, very nice people.
13:13 dagnyscott I'm wearing a shirt that says über, just for the topic.
13:13 Captain_ lmfao
13:14 Captain_ I'm fighting the urge to run to Allendale today.
13:14 Captain_ There's a short section of tower there I want to mount on the roof, so we can get the weather camera going.
13:14 Captain_ Today would be an excellent day for the weather camera.
13:14 mikemol I'm not sure if this guy is really lucky, or really unlucky: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ABGIJwiGBc
13:14 mikemol Captain_: Oh, yes!
13:14 mikemol Weathercams++
13:14 Sgt_Lemming lo captain
13:15 Captain_ He's incredibly lucky AND stupid.
13:15 mikemol Captain_: Also, I chatted with karmicthreat yesterday about ISPs. With that segment of tower, you might get a good, clear shot for a multichannel link with Michwave.
13:15 mikemol See if they want to try to set a bandwidth record for 802.11. Maybe they'd enjoy that kind of a PR stunt. :)
13:16 Captain_ 1. You never shoot at a vertical plate, ever, and for that to come BACK he had to have been shooting at a manhole cover or something, that's a .50cal Barrett (it's a tiny god that is laughingly refered to as a "Man Portable Weapon).
13:16 * mikemol is familiar with the Barrett.
13:16 Sgt_Lemming think it's not a barret actually
13:16 Sgt_Lemming looks more like an AWS50
13:17 Captain_ His range was decent (note the timing) and the whistle tells us the bullet came back tumbling and at a low speed, if it had hit him in the head, he'd be toast.
13:17 * mikemol nods
13:17 mikemol He was lucky it only caught the hearing protection
13:17 Sgt_Lemming incredibly so
13:17 Captain_ Anyone know what he was shooting at?
13:17 Sgt_Lemming something iron judging by what they say
13:18 Sgt_Lemming "Nope, no more iron"
13:18 Captain_ Yeah, it sounds like iron.
13:18 Captain_ There's a clank.
13:18 mikemol No. That video's been floating around the Internet for a few years now. I've never found a better copy, and never found additional contextual information.

17:49 Seroster =D
17:52 tesla4d I have to admit that I've done that before.
17:53 Seroster What?
17:53 Seroster The square?
17:54 Woshin sometimes the screensaver kinda makes a small version of the screen and bounces it around
17:54 tesla4d Watching a bouncing-object screensaver to see if it hits the corner
17:54 Woshin like some twisted game of pong without paddles
17:54 Rahlon hmm I think it would best to embed the live stream on the website and have a flash or java irc client underneath, rather than using the social stream thing. I dislike how it posts what I say to my twitter feed.
17:54 Woshin if you're really bored, you might watch to see if that bouncing square ever _exactly_ hits the corner
17:54 Rahlon sorta like how chris pirilo does it

17:56 Obtuse Bat-Mobile, I agree. A binary clock would be great
17:56 tesla4d Actually when I was in high school my mom decided to get satellite TV and we got TechTV with it.
17:56 tesla4d It's kind of funny to see what happened.
17:56 Obtuse I loved TechTv
17:56 Bat-Mobile ....makes me think, there's got to be a binary clock screensaver somewhere
17:56 Obtuse its not funny, its sad
17:57 tesla4d Actually, now I kind of wish I knew the whole story.
17:58 Obtuse tesla, i don't know the whole story but i think you can find it in wikipedia
17:58 tesla4d I'm already reading it.
17:58 Obtuse I remember in 2004 i went to university and turned on "the screen savers" and it was now called "attack of the show"

17:59 Woshin A morbid mind you have there, Obtuse

17:59 Obtuse lol.
18:01 tesla4d It seems companies kept passing the channel around because they expected it to perform well, were disappointed, and sold it to somebody else. Then Comcast bought it, merged it with G4 and bled the TechTV side to death.

21:53 cctoide this channel stalked LSL within a day of the first video :x
21:53 Obtuse they have it coming.
21:54 Obtuse lol. open invitation... < Seroster> Come rape me
21:55 Seroster If he actually bothers to come visit me I think he deserves to rape me
21:56 cctoide It doesn't really work if you're expecting it, does it?
21:56 Hackbat it can be rape if he knows it's gong to happen

21:58 Hackbat I need nomnoms now
21:58 Hackbat brb
21:58 Seroster How the hell do you know that, Hackbat ?
22:03 Obtuse does an IRC log hold up in court. like "Come Rape Me" is that enough evidence to say there was an open invitation?
22:03 Seroster Well
22:03 Obtuse i mean, chris hansen uses logs from aim chat
22:03 Obtuse to catch predators
22:03 Seroster No matter what I say now I can always recall that when he is actually here
22:03 Seroster You can't point to your girlfriends five year old text message with "come fuck me!"
22:04 Obtuse good point
22:05 * Obtuse has just discovered Dr. Bombay
22:05 Obtuse on youtube

22:08 cctoide An insatiable thirst for Christopher Boden?
22:08 Seroster Ahoy chris
22:08 cctoide well that was excellent timing
22:09 Captain__ Hey there guys
22:09 Seroster Aww, I hoped you was on the Ustream
22:09 Captain__ nope, at the house
22:09 Obtuse ah. time to close that window then
22:09 Seroster So there will be no activity there for something like 12 hours?
22:09 Captain__ Though I did make progress on the station today, we have audio now, and for a moment we had 3 cameras going.
22:10 cctoide Do the lights stay on overnight in there?
22:10 Captain__ I need to sort out some composite/svideo mojo though, and we need a giant metric fuckton of cables.
22:10 Seroster Damnit chris, you could have put a sign there with "Will return 12.00 UTC!" or something =P
22:10 Seroster Yay, cables!
22:10 Seroster cctoide, obviously? =P
22:10 Captain__ There will be nothing happening in there until noon tomorrow.
22:11 cctoide obviously?
22:11 Seroster You have only collected one of the TV station donations, huh?
22:11 exor674 the only cable I have that I don't really need is god knows how long SVideo + RCA audio ( seperate cables shoddily lashed together heh )
22:11 cctoide seems expensive to leave a windowless room lit for 12 hours if nobody's there :p
22:11 Hackfox joined #thegeekgroup
22:12 Seroster If there are two TV stations left to visit, why not make a road trip with the truck and get all the cables tomorrow, and the rest of the gear some other day?
22:13 cctoide I think Cprossu posted some helpful info for you in the social stream, Captain__
22:13 Hackfox So glad I got a battery for this laptop
22:13 cctoide is there any chance of enabling Ustream chat or is that out of the question?
22:13 Captain__ no way in hell.
22:13 Seroster Why?
22:14 Captain__ I won't enable comments either, if I had my way there wouldn't be the social stream thing.
22:14 Seroster ..?
22:14 Captain__ Because not everyone LIKES me, we have some long standing assholes out there, and while I fully support their right to hate me, and even post about how much they think I suck, I'll be damned if they get to do it using my megaphone.
22:15 Seroster ...That's why we have moderators.
22:15 Captain__ Until I have intelligent people I can trust able to moderate it, I don't want a public feedback stream.
22:15 Photon939 moderators for a ustream channel?
22:15 Photon939 seems rather silly
22:15 Captain__ And once we have mods, we'll use it.
22:15 Seroster "Chris Boden is an asshole"   "Ohyes, he sure is */kickban*"  and you ride away in the sunset!
22:15 exor674 is there a point in having 2 IRC channels, though
22:16 Seroster Photon939, lots of people have it.
22:16 Captain__ You think it's silly, but that's only because you don't know how many youtube comments we delete on a daily basis. Not everyone likes us ;)
22:16 Photon939 i know people do, but it seems like a waste of effort
22:16 Captain__ Hell Serostern gets half of HIS comments deleted.
22:16 Seroster =D
22:16 Seroster But I DO like you. =P
22:16 Photon939 I mean I understand why you don't want the comments on the stream
22:16 Captain__ Because he has a habit of being an asshole with suprising regularity.
22:17 Seroster To be honest I'm an asshole 24/7, I just supress it sometimes.
22:17 Captain__ I know you like me, and I like you, but what you say to me vs what I'm going to let you say to the world on my dine are two different things. You need to learn what's appropriate to your audience.
22:17 Captain__ Suppress it more, because if I keep having to delete every comment you post, I'll just ban you and save myself the trouble.
22:19 Captain__ I honestly don't even read half the comments on the Group channel. We get a LOT of them, and way too many are from the crazy jesus freaks who want me to die horribly and soon.
22:19 Photon939 haha
22:19 Seroster People even bother with that?

22:21 Obtuse Are people angry that there is an accesible place that doesn't require a person to have hundreds of thounsands of dollars and a degree?
22:21 Seroster exor674, That might be so, but It's not what I would call substancial =P
22:22 Hackfox I think the best option in the long run would have a live page on the main site with the stream embeded and an app for this IRC
22:22 cctoide if you go through the videos from 2-3 years ago there's plenty of stories about people who might have a reason for it
22:22 Seroster Like the "you aint got no heart"?
22:23 Captain__ The goal will be to have the video embedded on a Group page, with this IRC on there, yes, that's coming, and very soon.
22:23 Seroster Swoody!
22:23 cctoide Seroster: yeah, and that one splinter group

22:38 Cprossu Captain__: if the cameras are run svideo into the switcher (which is composite, no svideo connection), then you'll have to do extra wiring or simply supply a composite cable to your switcher instead
22:38 Hackfox I forgot they had a sauna O.o
22:39 Seroster Gotta fix that sauna
22:39 Photon939 wow 10 feet of EL wire for $6
22:40 Seroster Lol, two guys hunting one dies. The survivor says "He ran with the shotgun to shoot a porkupine, tripped on his shoelace and blew a hole in his chest" ... Yeah. Right.
22:40 Hackfox the quail shot him
22:41 Seroster Either that or Darwin did
22:41 Cprossu Captain__: to to sum that capture image up, for svideo input to the card, Luma must be connected to the Y in (like it was when it was black and white), and chroma has to be connected up to the B-Y in
22:41 cctoide I hate sites that use relative dates for everything
22:42 Seroster Lol, "if he had ben running with an untied boot it would have ben wide open, this one was still tight." - Yep, yer going to jail, and you were called on your bullshit in under five minutes =P
22:44 Cprossu you know I've almost bought EL wire many times, but stopped myself when I realized I didn't want to do anything _with_ it
22:44 Seroster El wire?
22:44 Photon939 electroluminescent
22:45 Seroster ....Right?
22:45 Hackfox you run high voltage through it and it glows
22:45 Photon939 http://www.gamestencils.com/sc_images/EL-Wire-Light.jpg
22:45 Hackfox works abit like a cap
22:45 Seroster Sweet
22:46 Seroster http://www.blueride.se/images/bl_03915.jpg this is cheaper thou
22:46 Photon939 you can get 10 feet of that with a driver for $6?
22:47 Seroster It's that cheap? A driver and the wire itself?
22:47 Photon939 yeah
22:47 Photon939 just saw some
22:47 Seroster Crap, I want one =P
22:48 Hackbat is that driver only rated for that length?
22:49 Photon939 most likely
22:49 Seroster What kind of driver is it? hf?
22:49 Photon939 a few hundred volts at a few KHz
22:49 Seroster Right
22:49 Photon939 low current
22:49 Seroster But over 600v?
22:49 Photon939 probably not that much
22:49 Seroster Crap
22:49 Photon939 only like 100-400v tops
22:49 Seroster Would make a spiffy Jacobs ladder

22:50 Hackbat love me some sparkfun
22:51 Seroster Tsk
22:51 Hackbat Tsk?
22:52 Seroster I want an obit and some plexiglass..
22:52 Photon939 i think i'm gonna swap out the transformer for a switchmode boost circuit in my nixie clock
22:53 Seroster A jacobs ladder should work in a closed box, right?
22:53 Hackbat you would need airflow
22:53 Cprossu you trying to pwm your nixies to increase the lifespan? (just curious)
22:53 Photon939 it should, but you'd probably want a few vent holes
22:54 Seroster Right
22:54 Photon939 no PWM on my clock
22:54 Photon939 but the nixies will switch off at night
22:54 Hackbat since it works on the air flowing up and such
22:54 Seroster Or I could just refrain from making it completely airtight
22:54 Hackbat air holes in the top and bottom will work
22:54 Seroster Might make a flyback driver and a small jacobs ladder as a desk fidget for my brother
22:55 Seroster And I want to close it as much as possible to make it safe
22:55 Cprossu I'd hate to have a jacobs ladder on my desk, i'd bump it
22:55 Seroster Eh?
22:55 Seroster You don't need it to run 24/7 =P
