00:24 masterofmonks dr_jkl: You apparently haven's had a cat fart.

00:25 masterofmonks Cprossu: I posted.
00:25 Cprossu masterofmonks: I read and thought about it.
00:26 dr_jkl aw, arsebiscuits
00:26 masterofmonks I think that USB is better overall because it allows for hubs and the cable it's self is shielded.
00:27 speedrunnerG55 ??
00:27 Cprossu I think that we'd need 5v regulated, 12v regulated, 3.6 unregulated, 13.6 unregulated, and.... something high enough to run miniture vacuum tubes
00:28 Cprossu oh yeah and 6.3.... sort of regulated
00:28 speedrunnerG55 dr_jkl: ???
00:28 Cprossu thoughts?
00:28 dr_jkl speedrunnerG55: what
00:29 masterofmonks Yeah, but we could run the higher voltages off of a separate connection.
00:29 speedrunnerG55 Can i? Or will it take a wile to find out
00:29 Cprossu I still don't like USB
00:29 speedrunnerG55 Sorry for being impatiant
00:29 Cprossu I did think of one idea though
00:29 dr_jkl shes at dinner, dont panic
00:29 masterofmonks Ya, but for signal transmission you need shielding.
00:29 Cprossu how about a backplane based on johnson powerole?
00:29 Cprossu *powerpole
00:29 Angy4 jkl, I think I'll need your input on Liz's project
00:30 Angy4 You php is better than mine I think :)
00:30 Cprossu or whatever the name is for those cool connectors, masterofmonks
00:30 dr_jkl i dont do php
00:30 dr_jkl well not a lot
00:30 Cprossu or was it anderson

00:30 masterofmonks cpAnserson connectors?
00:30 dr_jkl i do perl mostly
00:30 Angy4 hoo me too
00:30 Angy4 But Liz want php :(
00:30 masterofmonks Now I love me some anserson connectors.
00:30 Cprossu granted those are more hard to come by =(
00:31 Cprossu they are fucking awesome though
00:31 Cprossu in every way possible
00:31 dr_jkl Angy4: merde.
00:31 masterofmonks Definately.
00:31 dr_jkl Angy4: my roomie is a php developer, let me ask him tonight if he will help :D
00:31 speedrunnerG55 This chat moves at c
00:32 Angy4 dr_jkl: I'll send you the code part that I can't figure out :)
00:32 Angy4 More like tomorrow
00:32 masterofmonks Cprossu: http://www.andersonpower.com/products/pcb-connectors.html
00:33 masterofmonks not cheap, but it allows a level of PCB customosization that you can't get with ribbon cable.
00:33 Cprossu and insane amperage levels
00:33 masterofmonks That and I have a special kind of hate for ribbon cable.
00:34 Cprossu no we can't use these though
00:34 Cprossu a true kludge connector should be able to be pulled from anyone's junk plile
00:34 Cprossu *and bus*
00:34 Cprossu not just yours or mine
00:35 masterofmonks Then USB.
00:35 masterofmonks Because *everyone* has USB
00:35 Cprossu too few connections though
00:35 Cprossu you have enough for power, that's it
00:36 masterofmonks Lets look at my favorite parts store.
00:36 masterofmonks http://www.allelectronics.com/
00:36 masterofmonks These guys specialize in kluge componants.
00:37 Cprossu RJ45 is already hated by most of the HAM community for various reasons

00:38 Angy4 dr_jkl: I think first really working alpha tomorrow or next week
00:38 masterofmonks Cprossu: Why not a VGA D-Sub?
00:39 Cprossu because someone would attempt to plug their monitor in?
00:40 Cprossu how about a Femald D-sub 15?
00:40 Cprossu *female
00:40 Cprossu and how would the bus structure be?
00:40 wannabe1987 .
00:41 speedrunnerG55 .
00:41 masterofmonks That would give us enough connections, but now we are running into size constraints.
00:42 speedrunnerG55 What is PARSELTONGUE
00:42 Cprossu vga= dsub 15 right?
00:42 speedrunnerG55 Brb

00:46 Python oh
00:46 LinuxH4x0r not *really*
00:46 Cprossu my feeling is they shouldn't be in series with eachother
00:46 Cprossu but they should share a line
00:46 speedrunnerG55 dr_jkl: There dossent have to be corners :3
00:46 Cprossu kinda like really old ass computer systems
00:47 Cprossu this is why not every pin will be assigned
00:47 masterofmonks Well for QRP applications they are each processing the signal a bit as it goes through them.
00:47 * speedrunnerG55 back with mounitan dew
00:47 * speedrunnerG55 sips
00:47 Cprossu masterofmonks: my idea is that every connector will have every line available to it
00:47 Cprossu but if you choose not to use it in a module, who cares
00:47 speedrunnerG55 Nothing spilt. Judges score
00:47 LinuxH4x0r so I've got a wrt54gs2 v1 and a wrt54g2 v1 and I want to install tomato on them
00:47 Cprossu this way you can configure it in any physical way you want
00:48 LinuxH4x0r but they both fail -_-
00:48 Cprossu LinuxH4x0r: tried dd-wrt?
00:48 LinuxH4x0r not yet
00:48 Cprossu give it a go
00:48 LinuxH4x0r does it support bridging?
00:48 Cprossu FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS
00:48 Cprossu yeah
00:48 Cprossu and make very sure the version numbers
00:48 Cprossu it'll have you load a mini kernel first
00:48 Cprossu btw I have a wrt54gs v1.1 xD
00:49 Cprossu makes me very happy
00:49 masterofmonks LinuxH4x0r: are you using it for a wireless acces point or actually for routing?
00:49 Cprossu sounds like he's using it as a wireless to ethernet bridge
00:49 Cprossu at least one of them
00:49 LinuxH4x0r sweet
00:50 LinuxH4x0r using it as a wireless access point and an ethernet bridge
00:50 LinuxH4x0r wireless for the family and ethernet bridge for all my machines
00:50 masterofmonks I have a stock WRT54-GS that is a wireless bridge to my routing machine that is running ClearOS
00:51 masterofmonks You'll have to look, but there is a stupid simple to get the stofk firmware to go to bridge mode.
00:51 Cprossu masterofmonks: dd-wrt runs much better
00:51 masterofmonks I looked for months and then one day there it was, and I had it done in like 10 seconds.
00:51 speedrunnerG55 Are there anny ewb sites for viwewing 3d immages?
00:52 masterofmonks Cprossu: It only handles 1-2 wireless connections at a time, and does it's job perfectly.
00:52 masterofmonks Ah, Cprossu perhaps the best of both worlds here.
00:53 masterofmonks I was looking at comming out of the project boxes on the edge with our connectors.
00:53 Cprossu hmmm
00:53 masterofmonks But why not stack them?
00:53 speedrunnerG55 ?
00:53 Cprossu because of the lack of ventillation you said before?
00:53 masterofmonks D-Sub male on the bottom, D-Sub female comming out of the top.
00:54 Cprossu oic
00:54 Cprossu because that would be espensive
00:54 Cprossu and you couldn't remove one module
00:54 Cprossu without disturbing the others
00:54 masterofmonks But it's easy to rework your stack since you aren't locking them into place.
00:55 Cprossu but if you are testing a circuit
00:55 Cprossu you don't want to power everything else down
00:56 masterofmonks But it solves the problem of edge space nicely.
00:56 Cprossu opening your boxes would be fun
00:56 Cprossu and
00:57 Cprossu you'd have to have a hole in the middle of your pcb's =(
00:57 masterofmonks Put it off on one side.
00:57 Cprossu then it'll be flimsy
00:57 Sgt_Lemming do a proper cross flow ventillatio scheme
00:58 Cprossu oh damn something came undone
00:58 Cprossu *squish*
00:58 Sgt_Lemming line up all your heat producing elements
00:58 masterofmonks The only other option I see is make a modular stackable buss.
00:58 masterofmonks Something like a T connector.
00:59 masterofmonks And slap the connector on the edge again.
00:59 LinuxH4x0r left #thegeekgroup
01:01 SparkyProjects If i was making modules, i would create a PCB like a cross, the points would have the connections, the middle of the board would be a set of component pads (with holes).
01:01 SparkyProjects The left and top would be input, the right and bottom would be output
01:01 SparkyProjects The difference is that the left and right would be a bus, the top and bottom would only have a power bus, the iputs and outputs would be in series with whatever circuit is inside the box
01:01 SparkyProjects You would stack them flat so you can use the lid for controls or external inputs
01:02 masterofmonks SparkyProjects: but would that work with stacking small enclosures like altoids tins?
01:04 LinuxH4x0r joined #thegeekgroup
01:05 SparkyProjects yes, if the edges of the PCB's had the appropriate connectors, then if a module was intended to be in series, you mount it horizontally
01:05 SparkyProjects If it's meant to connect to the bus you mount it vertically, this also means you can access the other 2 bus rails for other stuff
01:07 masterofmonks hey Cprossu Why not a PCI bus?
01:08 Cprossu because they are too big
01:08 Sgt_Lemming and far too hard to implement
01:09 Cprossu the small part of a 16 bit ISA might be fun
01:09 Cprossu but the 34pin floppy edge connector is pretty close to that
01:09 masterofmonks Yeah, but with this, you could make a T instead of a ribbon connector.
01:10 masterofmonks Because I hate those.
01:10 Python left #thegeekgroup
01:10 masterofmonks There is only one thing I hate more than those.
01:10 masterofmonks MOLEX
01:11 Cprossu I didn't mention molex because of the whole point of it being "QUICK and EASY"
01:12 masterofmonks NO, I hate molex.
01:12 Angy4 why?
01:12 masterofmonks Er, No*
01:12 LinuxH4x0r left #thegeekgroup
01:12 Cprossu molex is nice, just not quick or easy
01:13 masterofmonks Angy4: because molex is *evil*.
01:13 masterofmonks I have bled more because of molex than probably any other indivisual reason.
01:13 Cprossu I have a feeling masterofmonks hasn't ever had a good pair of locking crimps =P
01:14 Angy4 You've not use the right kind of molex connector :)
01:14 Cprossu or the right kind of terminal removal tools =P
01:14 masterofmonks Cprossu: No, just the expereince of cheap razor sharp cases and age cemented molex connectors.
01:14 Angy4 I have to say the molex I used the most are aviation connector, kind of far off the others they make
01:15 Cprossu oh so you were mad at them for doing their job, masterofmonks xD
01:15 masterofmonks SATA power connectors do their job too.
01:15 masterofmonks They just don't requre a blood sacrifice for it.
01:15 Angy4 but are they working as good as sacrificial ones ?
01:16 masterofmonks Better.
01:17 Cprossu non-locking satas suck
01:17 Cprossu just take them over a good gravel road
01:17 * Angy4 is a SAS user
01:19 Cprossu I'll put 50 pin scsi's interface retention against sas any day xD\
01:19 Angy4 go for my setup
01:19 Angy4 I think you can't win against my hot-swap bays
01:20 masterofmonks Dunno Cprossu I am just not seeing a better option than USB, unless we went with HDMI, and had a hub.
01:20 Angy4 power and SAS cable are _screwed_ to the backplane
01:20 Cprossu sure I can, Angy4: DEC SCSI hot swap bays

02:15 BotSteve At 10 Jun 02:16Z, Cprossu asked me to tell CaptainBoden I see GH5 is totally ready to move into! :D Dig the kitchen.
02:15 Sgt_Lemming Cprossu, ISA was in the original IBM pc's
02:15 Cprossu I saw that in the truck, it's neat looking
02:15 Cprossu yeah but it was implemented in TTL
02:16 Cprossu not LPC
02:16 Sgt_Lemming it's still the same bus effectively
02:16 Sgt_Lemming and hence easy as shit to tap into
02:16 Cprossu you can't call a different bus the same thing
02:16 Cprossu you have to tap into the proper signal still
02:16 Sgt_Lemming LPC evolved from ISA
02:17 Sgt_Lemming modern industrial boards with ISA on them stick it on the LPC bus with a level shifter basically
02:17 Cprossu you could also say ATX power supplies evolved from AT, but if you tried to tap into the PS_ON signal on my AT power supply it would'nt exist
02:18 parsleyfirefly left #thegeekgroup
02:18 Sgt_Lemming yes, because the only common element between AT and ATX supplies are the voltages
02:18 Sgt_Lemming and the form factor

02:24 speedrunnerG55 HI!
02:25 Cprossu and Sgt_Lemming: atx power supplies are way more similar to at power supplies than LPC is to the 8 bit isa used in the IBM PC 5150
02:25 Angy4 Hi Bat-Mobile !
02:25 Cprossu The LPC bus was introduced by Intel in 1998 as a substitute for the Industry Standard Architecture (ISA) bus. It resembles ISA to software, although physically it is quite different, replacing the 16-bit-wide, 8.33 MHz ISA bus with a 4-bit-wide bus operating at 4 times the clock speed (33.3 MHz).
02:25 Bat-Mobile hi angy!

02:27 Bat-Mobile Angy4: any requests?
02:28 Sgt_Lemming converting from one to the other is quite easy though Cprossu, as the software is the same, all you need is a small micro controller capable of handling the 4bit to 8bit translation
02:28 Cprossu yes but you failed because you tapped into a bus that didn't exist
02:28 Angy4 Bat-Mobile: None that can be code currently :)
02:28 Angy4 I currently need to get a hold of someone that can understand php better than I

02:51 dr_jkl CaptainBoden: you said on the forum you had a few ppl tell you they had issues w/ signing up
02:51 CaptainBoden It's very, very high end analong, you'd have to go up to a SSL or a Neve to beat it, and then it's only marginally.
02:51 dr_jkl CaptainBoden: all those issues should be resolved as of the other day. if anyone still has issues they should contact me directly.
02:51 eadthem so all the channals plug in to the backplane makeing it entirely moduleler?

02:51 speedrunnerG55 Oh hi steve
02:51 CaptainBoden yes, most large scale consoles are like that, the big exception being Mackies which are all on one board.
02:52 egrsteve what type of console is that
02:52 CaptainBoden red, if you want to, sure, I'll be there shooting video.

02:53 egrsteve are they what is it P & G faders
02:53 egrsteve I assume at least
02:53 CaptainBoden Yes, when you say "British" that's what it means. P&G are the world standard.
02:53 egrsteve indeed they are
02:53 CaptainBoden We've even got a couple extra
02:54 egrsteve 170mm?
02:54 CaptainBoden looks like it
02:54 egrsteve or is it 120

02:55 CaptainBoden Biggest I've ever had in one of my studios was a 38x8x2 Mackie 8-Buss with dual 24E expander desks.
02:55 CaptainBoden I miss that board.
02:56 egrsteve lightig wise I once played a bit eith one of these http://www.avolites.com/products/images/sap2000.jpg
02:56 egrsteve tomarrow I am mixing on a 48 + dual 4 stereo 16 aux allen and heath
02:56 CaptainBoden We got that thing to the first landing and I thought people were gonna die.
02:56 egrsteve that heavy
02:56 CaptainBoden We pulled the modules in the stairway, and removed easily 250lbs in weight.
02:56 Cprossu I think the neatest one I ever played with was an old school yamaha ...1532 I think?
02:57 egrsteve you ever see the tilt a console rigs
02:57 CaptainBoden The what?
02:57 CaptainBoden The little rack stands?

02:57 Cprossu ^ this one
02:57 CaptainBoden for like, 1600 series Mackies and such?
02:57 egrsteve it takes the whole roadcase and rolls it back into the operating position as a stand
02:58 CaptainBoden ahhh, yeah, I've seen those.
02:58 REDhome :P
02:58 egrsteve sorry it's a easy tilt
02:58 Cprossu I found ours in the props closet
02:58 egrsteve those are nice
02:58 Cprossu and fixed it up
02:58 Cprossu plopped it back into operation
02:58 Angy4 biggest one I ever use was a Vi4
02:59 Cprossu what was interesting is the sliders hooked into a rotational pot
02:59 Cprossu if I recall correctly
02:59 Cprossu only thing it needed was being pulled apart and put back together
03:00 egrsteve biggest digital I have played with was a soundcraft Si6
03:00 * Cprossu has happy memories
03:00 egrsteve those handle eq in a really cool way
03:00 egrsteve when channel eq is active the show fader section is a graphic eq
03:00 speedrunnerG55 I wonder if there is a way to increase the exporure on a web cam to take higher resolution photos
03:01 Angy4 they are kind of cool
03:01 egrsteve it had 2 pages of eq so about 31 band I think
03:01 egrsteve for every channel
03:02 Cprossu The worst POS audio mixer I have used...... man it's a tough call between a berringer something-or-other and a peavy unity
03:02 BotSteve In the last hour, there have been 1 new posts on the Geek Group forums.  New posts made by: dr_jkl on Rifftrax
03:02 Angy4 I think the Si4 has a 4 band eq for each channel and a 31 for master
03:02 egrsteve is it the yamaha digital consoles that have an unstable word clock in them?
03:02 dr_jkl Fuck.
03:03 Cprossu the peavy gets my hate vote because it sucked hard.
03:03 dr_jkl All this talk about wheatstone is making me want garlic triscuits.
03:03 egrsteve beringer is noisy, but at least they try for usable features
03:03 Cprossu it's funny because all this talk about wheatstone makes me want to control motors with 3 resistors and a pot.
03:03 egrsteve makes me think of strain gages
03:04 egrsteve and computing the change in resistance
03:04 Cprossu the pot is on the motor xD
03:04 Cprossu so the motor will move until the position matches
03:05 egrsteve but how much torque can that configuration provide
03:06 Cprossu enough to say move an air blend door

03:09 Obtuse_ what are you building?

03:10 Cprossu took me a while but I found what I was talking about
03:10 eadthem im not    atm im programming agan
03:11 Obtuse_ what are you programming?
03:12 eadthem atm im finishing the SCS library for stormwarn    then im going to figure out if my previous xml parser i wrote is good  or if i shuld make something slower and more flexable
03:12 Cprossu egrsteve: the premise is current flow for the unbalanced circuit, etc
03:12 Obtuse_ SCS .. .what is this TLA?
03:13 Cprossu so it's a feedback without a computer xD
03:13 eadthem its just some letters that sounded cool :p   i got tired of the limitations of the INI format   ie not having support for lists  so i wrote my own
03:16 dr_jkl pcmcia. people can't memorize computer industry acronyms.
03:16 eadthem wheatstone bridge is just a resistor netowork for converting a uknown resistance in to a voltage for mesurement      letting you convert while keeping things relitivly linear
03:16 Angy4 dr_jkl: We got slaves for that
03:17 Angy4 correction, trainees

03:18 Cprossu I could be wrong

03:29 injektion You know what can cause those artifacts speedrunnerG55?
03:29 Obtuse_ i'm just grabbing random ones
03:29 speedrunnerG55 No i dont
03:29 Obtuse_ and finding out that they all work the same
03:29 eadthem what  voltage
03:29 injektion Exposing the optical sensor to radiation
03:29 Obtuse_ at least under dc conditions
03:29 Obtuse_ no more than 20 V max needed
03:29 speedrunnerG55 Whats that nutrinos?
03:30 Obtuse_ I don't expect the battery to get over 16v
03:30 eadthem how many amps
03:30 Obtuse_ i'm guestimating right now that the motors will take 10 amps
03:30 eadthem how many MPH and how much weight?
03:31 injektion It's something but I don't know what and my brain isn't properly functioning
03:31 Obtuse_ 0 weight. dunno the mph
03:31 Obtuse_ i don't have good specs on the motors
03:31 Obtuse_ would be nice to know the resistance on them
03:31 eadthem mmm we had a RC power wheels a while back at work that we stuck one of our controllers in     got it up to 40MPH with a passenger :p

03:33 Obtuse_ Hello Red
03:33 eadthem as i recall power wheels used a simple car battery for there motors
03:33 eadthem do you know how many amphours they are?
03:33 Cprossu for only $750 you can kill your laptop and your portability to use a $400 graphics card
03:33 Obtuse_ yea, 18 amp hour is what we will get
03:34 dr_jkl it wasn't a car battery
03:34 Obtuse_ like 14.4 volts
03:34 dr_jkl it was similar to what UPSes use as batteries
03:34 speedrunnerG55 Red <2
03:34 eadthem Obtuse_ how long do they last?
03:34 Cprossu 14.4 is a car with the alternator going full tilt
03:34 eadthem i mean constant run
03:34 dr_jkl (although amusingly, i've hooked UPses up to car batteries before)
03:34 Obtuse_ no idea
03:34 Obtuse_ if you continuously ran 18 Amps, 1 hour
03:35 Obtuse_ i'm expecting that
03:35 speedrunnerG55 Bat-Mobile whats the verdict
03:35 Bat-Mobile Yes.

03:37 speedrunnerG55 The bat has spoken
03:37 * speedrunnerG55 takes notes
03:39 eadthem Obtuse_  if you can figure out the runtime i think we can figure out the current you would expect to see
03:39 Bat-Mobile That's all I got for ya
03:39 eadthem what im seeing is 1 to 3 hours
03:39 Obtuse_ here's my guestimation right now ... 25 amp fuse
03:40 Obtuse_ so i'm thinking 10 A per motor
03:40 eadthem so if we take the 1 hour time  and assume its a 10 amp hour battery  we can assume that probably around 6-9 amps run   with spikes to aobut 20 amps  due to the fuse size
03:41 eadthem thers 2 motors  1 on each back wheel ?
03:41 Obtuse_ yea, decent guesstimation
03:41 Obtuse_ i have the motor number. cannot find the specs
03:41 eadthem thats ok a photo will do fine
03:41 Obtuse_ 74590-9539
03:41 eadthem but its prob just a 2 wire brushed motor
03:43 Cprossu eadthem: what in the fuck is a vidock?
03:44 eadthem personaly because mosfets lower than 60V are cheep id go with a 30-50 amp 30-50V mosfet with a low RDS on
03:44 Obtuse_ aight.

03:45 eadthem now if i could get a real cpu in a laptop that would be the way to go
03:46 Cprossu well you ruined the portability
03:46 eadthem but alas they dont make dual chip 6 or 8 core phenom III or even II laptops
03:46 eadthem ya
03:46 Cprossu you can get a quadcore phenomII at least though
03:46 Cprossu and phenomIII isn't out yet is it?
03:46 eadthem no
03:46 Cprossu good
03:46 eadthem i figure 4000

03:47 Cprossu WOW
03:47 Cprossu $230
03:47 eadthem i figure if it takes me 6 hours to do 200mSec of real time for my active PFC cicut in ltspice
03:47 Cprossu that kicks ASS
03:48 eadthem i assume that simply a single core phenom II or 1/2 module of a pheniom III would be 2x my current cpus speed
03:48 Cprossu eadthem: what you running right now?
03:48 eadthem a 6 core phenom III shuld be 1/2 hour
03:48 eadthem amd athlon 3000+ barton
03:48 Cprossu got it overclocked any?
03:48 eadthem no
03:49 Cprossu hell of a proc
03:49 eadthem it wouldnt help much
03:49 Cprossu but yeah a64's kicked fucking butt
03:49 eadthem ya   its old  but it keeps up
03:49 eadthem only things it cant do well are  active PFC spice simulations   and flas video
03:49 eadthem flash video
03:50 eadthem considering simply moving to linux for LTspice shuld grant me a 10-20% speed boost i think a 6 or  perfferably 8 core shuld do nicely

03:54 Lead Hey Cprossu
03:54 Cprossu same motherboard though
03:54 Lead I already killed the Land Cruiser somehow
03:54 Cprossu what's up Lead?
03:55 Cprossu what the fuck did you do to it?
03:55 Lead Crank, no start
03:55 Lead has spark
03:55 Cprossu what about fuel?
03:55 Lead Put 2 gallons in it yesterday
03:55 Cprossu got any brake cleaner?
03:55 Lead and another gallon today
03:55 Lead it will run off starting fluid
03:55 Cprossu no I mean fuel at the engine
03:55 Cprossu ok

03:55 Cprossu either way fueling problem
03:56 Lead No doubt

03:56 Cprossu it's injected right?
03:56 Lead What concerns me, is that when I had it running yesterday
03:56 Lead I could clearly hear the injectors cycling
03:56 Lead I didn't hear the injectors clicking while cranking
03:56 Lead today
03:56 Cprossu don't worry about that
03:56 Cprossu have a buddy with you?
03:56 Lead Well its 12 AM
03:56 Lead so no
03:56 Lead but I can
03:56 injektion Did you check the fuel pump relay?
03:56 Cprossu do you hear the fuel pump engage?
03:57 Lead I never heard the fuel pump in this thing, even when it was running
03:57 Cprossu if not go whack the relay center
03:57 Lead It's a 1989
03:57 Cprossu you need someone to listen for it if it's intank
03:57 Lead they toss relays wherever they damn well pleased
03:58 Lead It rained last night though
03:59 Lead and my dads friend told me the windshield has a leak
03:59 Cprossu well your job should you chose to accept it, is to track down your fuel pump relay and smack it.
03:59 Lead I found where it was leaking.
03:59 Cprossu then you should test for voltage
03:59 Lead Where it was leaking
03:59 Lead also happens to have the ECU
03:59 Lead right below it
03:59 Cprossu then with a fused lead (15A) bridge the relay gap after you take it out
03:59 Cprossu Lead: oh shit
03:59 Cprossu but you know that might be fine
03:59 Lead I took the battery off
03:59 Cprossu it fires up with spark
03:59 Lead and imma let it dry off
04:00 Cprossu still either way
04:00 Cprossu provide power to the fuel pump from the relay socket if you have voltage there
04:00 Lead Well, a late 80s EFI toyota ignition system is anything like the Ford TFI system, it doesn't care if the cmoputer is working or not
04:00 Lead *if a late
04:00 Lead It will still fire a spark off, just won't have timing advance from the computer
04:00 Cprossu so it's like a late 80's GM DIS then
04:01 Lead I am not sure if it is like that
04:01 Lead It has a weird coil though
04:01 Lead has like 4 wires going into it.
04:01 speedrunnerG55 Hi Lead
04:01 injektion You mean the TFI system that had 1 or 2 recalls :P
04:01 injektion Due to failing modules
04:01 speedrunnerG55 Are you related to LeadHead ?
04:01 Cprossu yes he's leadhead
04:02 injektion Because Ford put them in places where there wasn't enough cooling
04:02 speedrunnerG55 Hey PB
04:02 Lead TFI module failure was because ford bolted them to the distributor
04:02 Lead Later ones had them mounted to fenders with their own heatsinks
04:02 Cprossu and HEI modules failed because of the same reason
04:02 Lead later modules were also physically improved

04:05 Lead 87
04:05 injektion Lead: In the Topaz it has a heatsink and guess what it STILL failed
04:05 Lead and I will reply with my same response

04:06 Lead Nope.
04:06 Lead It's a Topaz, that's a whole different level of suck.
04:07 injektion It's the exact same car my dad uses an example to compare a BMW to but then again he cannot any more because it's starting to develop electrical problems
04:08 injektion The blower motor and the turn signals must be wired together somehow because if one doesn't work neither does the other
04:08 Cprossu oh I have something funny to tell you
04:08 Cprossu lexas alternator whine sounds like high pitched farting
04:08 Cprossu almost like a power steering pump sound
04:08 Cprossu *lexus

04:10 injektion My BMW is no where close to being a soulless japanese microwave oven
04:10 Cprossu '87 535 I think he said
04:10 injektion My car has character
04:10 injektion With 0 electrical faults
04:11 Cprossu you mean 8
04:11 Lead A first for a German vehicle!
04:11 Cprossu lol
04:11 Cprossu it's just that your fault indicator's missing the middle part of it so it reads 0
04:11 injektion Everything works except for the FM reception on the japanese built radio
04:12 Lead I wish a myself a pre-OBDII scantool
04:12 Cprossu I saw a BMW 'executive' cd radio the other day
04:12 Cprossu at a goodwill
04:12 Lead Also, neat feature of the land cruiser
04:13 Lead a power-extending antenna
04:13 injektion I got one of those too
04:13 eadthem how old?
04:13 Lead with an up/down switch. So you can put it down when you
04:13 Lead hit the tails
04:13 Lead *trails
04:13 Cprossu power antennas are good for breaking.
04:14 Cprossu I've seen enough GM's with dead ones to know
04:14 Lead Yeh.
04:14 Lead the land cruisers is stuck up
04:14 Lead at the moment
04:14 injektion Mine works just fine
04:14 eadthem ya that was the prob with the ford tarus auto antenna
04:14 Lead At which point it's just a normal antenna
04:14 eadthem it went up whenever you turned on the radio and down whenever you turned it off
04:14 eadthem same with the car igntion
04:15 eadthem fine till the fishtape breaks off  inside from overuse
04:15 injektion I hate power antennas. I'd prefer a manual one to an electrical one
04:16 eadthem the 89 grand marquee had a power antenna but it was on a manual switch
04:17 injektion eadthem: We had one of those in the family probably the best Ford we ever had except for the broken power windows
04:17 eadthem mmm ya rear passenger side window came unstuck
04:17 injektion From what I understand it's still an issue in new fords
04:17 eadthem we got the window up but the bar that held it left a good gap for lots of noise
04:18 eadthem ya my 2004 grand marquee has slow windows
04:18 injektion My dad did everything to try and fix them and they kept on breaking
04:18 eadthem they will run slow in spots  prob means it needs lubed but that sounds like way to much fun to get to inside the door
04:19 eadthem if you rase or lower more than 1 window at once its horrably slow
04:19 Lead Toyota did some goofy stuff. Appearently there is a "circuit open" relay for the fuel pump. The relay is actuated by some bypass circuit when the key is in "crank", and than the air-flow sensor
04:20 Lead activates the relay once the engine is running
04:20 eadthem sounds like a cutoff switch of sorts
04:20 egrsteve left #thegeekgroup
04:21 Cprossu Lead: that sounds really weird
04:21 Lead Yeah, this thing doesn't have a MAF, uses a vane-air meter
04:21 Cprossu are you sure it's not an oil pressure bypass to kick the pump in action?
04:22 Cprossu do you have a diagram for that sucker?
04:22 injektion I really hate airflow meters MAFs are so much better
04:22 Cprossu I prefer MAP's
04:22 Cprossu less to go wrong =P
04:23 eadthem the other thing i will strongly look in to on the new computer
04:23 Obtuse_ left #thegeekgroup
04:23 eadthem 12GB of ram
04:23 injektion That BMW V12 I had required 2 air temp sensors on both intake manifolds
04:23 eadthem and then ile take 10GB and make a ramdrive for spice simuation output
04:24 Lead That's because those BMW V12s used a ghetto EFI system
04:24 injektion I like Bosh Motronic
04:24 injektion Bosch*
04:25 injektion It's less awful than what Ford or Toyota used
04:25 Lead Erm, what?
04:25 Lead I don't know about Toyota, but GM and Ford had some of the most sophisticated EFI systems around.
04:26 Lead Especially the Ford EEC-IV.
04:26 injektion I wouldn't call the EEC-IV good
04:26 Cprossu I would
04:26 injektion It came from the Tempo era
04:27 Cprossu but I also wouldn't call the bosh system 'ghetto'
04:27 Lead The Bosch EFI is not ghetto, the way BMW implemented it
04:27 Lead is.
04:28 Cprossu no the way Jaguar implemented it's EFI on their v12 is ghetto
04:28 injektion If you think that system is ghetto on the BMW V12 you should look at how Toyota did it on their V12
04:28 injektion They took a page out of BMW's book
04:28 injektion 2 ECUs :P
04:28 Lead EEC-IV was used between 86-96. The 93-96 EEC-IVs had scalars and variables to correct engine drivability issues that I didn't even know could exist.
04:28 injektion So did the later Bosch systems
04:29 Lead Very, very powerful, and very sophisticated
04:29 injektion In the 80s
04:30 injektion and 90s
04:30 Lead Some of the most popular ECUs for hot-rodding V8s are the 89-91 Mustang EEC-IVs
04:30 injektion Starting with the M60 V8s
04:30 Lead Actually, hot rodding anything, since you can use an EEC-IV to control about any engine.
04:30 Lead Chrysler
04:30 Lead They always seemed to be weird about their computers.
04:30 Cprossu they always worked though.

04:53 Cprossu yeah?
04:53 Lead I have the FJ62 electrical diagram here in front of me. There are 2 things that must happen to get the fuel pump to run: the EFI Main relay must close, and the "Circuit Opening Relay" must close (they're wired in series). The EFI relay is closed when you turn the key on and wake up the EFI ECU. The Circuit Opening Relay is closed under 2 conditions: 1) you are cranking the engine, or 2) there is sufficient air moving thru the ai
04:53 Lead ese conditions are met, the fuel pump runs continuously.

17:14 Angy4 I don't care, I still got a unused /24 or so
17:14 Phu^ netsplits happen just as frequently on IPv4 as they do on IPv6. its nothing to do with the IP protocol :P
17:14 Angy4 Sure, but we like blamming ipv6
17:15 Cprossu yeah but I get to laugh at all the IPV6 people because they are all gone in one swoop
17:15 Phu^ only because freenode lacks IPv6 servers :P
17:15 Phu^ I've seen bigger netspits than that on IPv4.
17:15 speedrunnerG55 Lol
17:16 speedrunnerG55 :/
17:16 Cprossu I have to but it hasn't ever taken every single IPv4'er offline
17:16 Cprossu this just took every single ipv6'er offline
17:16 Angy4 that would be baaad

17:17 Cprossu xD
17:17 mashpriborintorg At my work the users do already annoy me for simple printer problems, removing them the network should be.... apocalypse

17:18 Angy4 just disconnect your phone before doiing it
17:19 mashpriborintorg yeah
17:19 mashpriborintorg or do in remotely, while I'm on caribbean trip :p
17:21 Phu^ there is nothing wrong with IPv6. All that happened is that freenode has like 2 IPv6 server compared with around 20 IPv4 servers. So everyone who has IPv6 is connected to a limited set of servers, meaning IF a netsplit occurs, its more likely to take al the IPv6 users becauxse they are all crammed onto one or two servers.
17:21 Phu^ There is absolutely no difference in stability, security, reliability etc between v4 and v6.

17:22 Phu^ I really don't get "IPv6 fear"

17:23 injektion When I connect to freenode I get IPv6 servers randomly
17:23 Phu^ "its new! its exactly like the old stuf... but its new! therefore I will deride it as often as possible even though there is nothing to justify doing so... BECAUSE ITS NEW!!!"
17:23 mashpriborintorg try to remember IPv6 address
17:23 injektion I don't even have IPv6 enabled in my firewall
17:23 Angy4 try to *use* ipv6 in real world
17:23 Phu^ I do.
17:24 Phu^ it works fine.
17:24 Angy4 Which type of real world
17:24 mashpriborintorg we'll all have to do it, one day
17:24 Phu^ I don't even know when I'm on IPv6, because its exactly the same as IPv4!
17:24 Angy4 I speak about *real* world, not your ISP does it with toredo
17:24 injektion Why exactly are we arguing about IPv6?
17:25 Phu^ and if your entire justification for isolating 2 billion IP devices from the internet is "the addresses are too long to remember" then you have no place even discussing it.
17:25 mashpriborintorg shouldn't he clean the contacts before plugging back the modules
17:25 Angy4 my point is try to route ipv6
17:25 mashpriborintorg and eye-check solders, caps
17:25 Cprossu mashpriborintorg: nah
17:25 Angy4 *hardware* route ipv6
17:25 Cprossu the act of taking them out and putting them in
17:25 Phu^ Angy4: there's no issue in doing that ... ?
17:25 Cprossu likely cleaned the contacts as much as they needed to be
17:26 Phu^ or is your argument "My router is too crappy to support it, therefore IPv6 is bad" ?
17:26 Cprossu and there won't be any cold solder joints unless someone fubbed a repair on it
17:26 injektion I don't see why we need to argue about IPv6 it's the next step in ensuring we don't even up behind a giant NAT imposed by ISPs
17:26 Angy4 My router is too crappy?
17:26 Angy4 let me laugh for about 2 billion years
17:26 Phu^ injektion: I agree.
17:26 SparkyProjects The console was worrking just before they got it, and the act of plugging in would clean the contacts, after all, you don't clean the contacts when inserting computer cards.
17:26 Phu^ IPv6 routes just like IPv4...
17:26 Angy4 hum... no
17:26 Phu^ um yes.
17:27 Phu^ You have subnets. and Prefix lengths.
17:27 Angy4 using what?
17:27 Phu^ Exactly like IPv4.
17:27 Angy4 I'd like to know
17:27 Cprossu SparkyProjects: I nunja'ed you lol
17:27 Cprossu *ninja'd even
17:27 Phu^ now, if the configuration interface on your particular ROUTER makes a difference in how you route v6 versus v4, thats not a fault of the protocol.
17:28 Angy4 I guess you use comsumer grade thingy
17:28 Phu^ or are you now saying "v6 is bad because its too hard for me" ?
17:28 Angy4 I say v6 is bad beacaus I can't do HSRP, I have to open a TAC each time i need to setup something on it
17:28 Angy4 *and* ISP created around 2 zillion NAT protocols for ipv6
17:29 Phu^ as I understand it, HSRP is a Cisco proprietary technology anyway, and nothing to with IP.
17:29 Angy4 VRRP does not work either
17:30 Phu^ so you can't blame the lack of it in you router on IPv6, as its not IPv4 or v6's mandate to provide it.
17:30 Phu^ its Ciscos.
17:30 Angy4 I blame ipv6 do have took 20 years to standardize
17:30 Angy4 so that every single hardware/software vendor can do it own implementation
17:30 Angy4 and break everything
17:31 Phu^ it took 20 years to standardize because people like you (no offence) took every opportunity to complain about it instead of getting on with supporting it!
17:31 Angy4 *I* supported it until it got NAT64/NAT66/NAT666/NAT646/NAT664
17:31 Angy4 and every single others
17:31 mashpriborintorg it's not every day we ear liz
17:32 Phu^ and just out of interest, why are you using NAT with IPv6 ? You have 5 pentillion addresses per prefix.... unless you got the rarest network setup ever, you shouldn't need NAT on IPv6.
17:33 Angy4 I don't know, I stop reading about it when they start speaking about NAT
17:33 Phu^ the only kind of NAT you need with v6 is for transparent proxying for content filtering.
17:34 Cprossu man that's a pretty board
17:35 mashpriborintorg all together it does a gigantic number of parts
17:35 speedrunnerG55 Are ipv6 routers stateless?
17:35 mashpriborintorg and after, 2 screws to fasten at each module
17:36 Angy4 that remind me of a friend recording studio, he had an old soundcraft with a lot of exchangable modules. we kept changing modules to adapt sources
17:36 SparkyProjects there's about 200 screws
17:38 Cprossu that thing is just going together like butter
17:38 SparkyProjects how do you put butter together :P
