01:24 Seroster God damn my face hurts
01:25 Seroster I managed to faceplant my bike handle at 35kph.
01:25 Seroster Idiotic kids put a rope across the road in the middle of the night. My bike stopped cold and I didnt,.
01:25 wannabe1987 .c 35kph to miles
01:25 BotSteve Sorry, no result.
01:25 wannabe1987 .c 35kph to mph
01:25 BotSteve 21.7479917 mph
01:25 Seroster ...
01:26 wannabe1987 nice
01:26 wannabe1987 stupid kids
01:26 Seroster I did however manage to, by pure damn luck, land on my feet. I imagine it looked fucking awesome, and I would love to see the video tape off it.
01:27 Seroster Split my eyebrow a bit. Ace.
01:32 tonsofpcs I managed to do a barrel roll while on a mountain bike once... new bike, going down stairs spaced roughlly the length of the bike, i hit both brakes to stop about halfway down because someone stepped out onto the stairs... the brakes hadn't been timed yet, so the front applied before the back...
01:34 masterofmonks I once spilt on my motorcycle going 35mph due to shoddy construction workers digging a hole in the road 300 yards from where they were working, and not putting any signs up.
01:35 wannabe1987 sounds fun, guys
01:36 Seroster lol
01:37 Seroster Lemme tell you about how I lost my leg!
01:37 Seroster It was back in the good ol days, yarr, when deathmatches with gators were still legal.
01:37 tonsofpcs heh
01:38 Seroster Things to compare: 1, Dicks. 2, Wives. 3, Cars, 4, Computers, 5, Scars, 6, Whiskey.
01:40 Seroster Or all of the above, the scars you got when your wife shoved a whiskey bottle into your dick while running your computer over with your car.
01:40 SparkyProjects http://www.wimp.com/manmoose/
01:40 Seroster ...Not that that ever happened to me.
01:40 Seroster Ey, SparkyProjects beats us all, he sawed his damn arm off!
01:41 wannabe1987 too many damn things to do at once. this is why i had two computers. why did it have to die?
01:41 Seroster Because you spilt whiskey onto it?
01:41 wannabe1987 no, i don't have whiskey
01:42 Seroster Not anymore.
01:43 wannabe1987 nope, never had. if its alcohol it'll be vodka

02:40 Katemonster I love how I'm suddenly not the only person who has ever heard of Porcupine Tree.
02:40 speedrunnerG55 hi Katemonster
02:41 Katemonster hi speed
02:41 Katemonster any luck with rocketeering yet
02:42 speedrunnerG55 a little
02:42 speedrunnerG55 no were near anny of your scores but i did better at least
02:42 Katemonster lol
02:42 speedrunnerG55 i havnt really tried yet, im still playing with the options
02:43 Katemonster here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RvVjysJKB4
02:43 speedrunnerG55 whats the highest amount of thrust you get out of an engine?
02:44 speedrunnerG55 i dont have all that stuff
02:44 Katemonster of the stock engines, the solid fuel booster is more powerful but you can't throttle it and it makes the thing reeeally unstable.
02:44 Sgt_Lemming there a very fine line between solid fuel booster, and explosive
02:44 Katemonster don't have what stuff?
02:44 Sgt_Lemming and sometimes that line, comes as the result of a hair thin crack
02:45 Katemonster yep :D
02:45 speedrunnerG55 how do you throttle?
02:45 Sgt_Lemming a solid rocket... you don't
02:45 Sgt_Lemming it's on or off
02:45 Sgt_Lemming and once it's on, it's on till it runs out of fuel
02:46 eadthem so was the haas videos accualy made yet?
02:46 eadthem or are they on another youtube channal?
02:49 Katemonster also interesting: 0.8.5 runs reasonably well on my machine, which is technically below the required tech specs for the game; 0.9 is unplayable because it's so choppy.
02:49 Katemonster :(
03:04 Katemonster also, Sgt_Lemming, it's (still) in poor taste but (still) warrants being said (over and over again)
03:04 Katemonster NASA: Need Another Seven Astronauts
03:05 Sgt_Lemming heh
03:05 Sgt_Lemming Need A Survivable Aircraft
03:05 Katemonster lol, that too.
03:06 Sgt_Lemming Nearly A Space Agency was a good one when they started
03:06 Sgt_Lemming cause the russians were beating the pants off them
03:06 Katemonster lol, yep
03:08 masterofmonks Katemonster: the throtle problem isn't about rockets, it's about componants.
03:09 masterofmonks Once you excede a certain number of componants the pulsing begins.
03:09 Katemonster and now with both the cancellation of any plan for a manned mission to mars (back in the 1970s) and the retirement of the shuttles, they have kind of re-earned that name too.
03:09 Katemonster i kind of gathered that
03:09 Katemonster but for me it only happens in 0.8.5 when i have a very large/complex rocket
03:10 Katemonster in 0.9 it does it *constantly* no matter what
03:10 Katemonster so i switched back to 0.8.5, which makes me sad because everything in 0.9 is so much better
03:12 Katemonster i gotta show you Matilda though.
03:17 * wannabe1987 can't find a channel in which people don't bother her about things....
03:17 masterofmonks What things?
03:17 wannabe1987 porn. or my virginity (seroster). or lack of sex knowledge. etc
03:18 Katemonster that's to be expected. i'm more amused at your general lack of pop culture knowledge.
03:18 wannabe1987 thats ok. the other bothers me....nate (other channel) is like "you filled your computer up with porn, didn'tyou" and jake goes "nothing wrong with porn" an di'm like of course not. but thats not the issue
03:22 BotSteve In the last hour, there have been 1 new posts on the Geek Group forums. New posts made by: Craig Bailey on Are you a ham?
03:22 wannabe1987 BotSteve: tell lwq1996 that he should text me
03:22 BotSteve wannabe1987: I'll pass that on when lwq1996 is around.
03:31 Katemonster masterofmonks: this is Matilda, also known as Everything Is Better With Struts http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/2302/screenshot0irp.png
03:32 masterofmonks Heh.
03:33 Katemonster 2,932,000 in 33 minutes even, and that's after a good 10 minutes of retrograde burn trying to slow down and get back down.
03:33 Katemonster kilometers, that is
03:33 masterofmonks The problem that I have with the game is, there is nowhere to go.
03:34 Katemonster yeah, it's annoying. they say they are eventually going to add a moon (called Mun)
03:34 masterofmonks It's all baout going higher, farther, and faster, but where.
03:34 Katemonster but that's at least a few updates away
03:34 * Katemonster shrug
03:34 Katemonster it's a fun toy.
03:35 Sgt_Lemming Katemonster, what's that from?
03:35 Katemonster what's what from?

03:48 Katemonster i couldn't stabilize it cause of how choppy 0.9 is for me :(
03:49 Katemonster i'm quite satisfied though

05:37 speedrunnerG55 DDR3 uses a 240-
05:37 speedrunnerG55 pin DIMM, albeit one that is slotted differ-
05:37 speedrunnerG55 ently to make it difficult for users to install
05:37 speedrunnerG55 the wrong RAM in their system without

05:38 speedrunnerG55 crud, i didnt think that would do that... sorry
05:40 speedrunnerG55 DDR3 modules also use higher-density memory chips, which
05:40 speedrunnerG55 memory used solely in video
05:40 speedrunnerG55 means we may eventually see 16 GB DDR3 modules.

06:21 NeWtoz there are laws against that sort of thing
06:22 speedrunnerG55 i dont see that in the software center
06:22 NeWtoz that's because it's probably not in there ;)
06:23 NeWtoz welcome to the fun part of linux
06:23 speedrunnerG55 >_>
06:24 NeWtoz download, gunzip file, tar -xvvf file, cd folder, ./cpu-g
06:24 NeWtoz that's all ;)
06:26 speedrunnerG55 ?
06:26 speedrunnerG55 do i extract it?
06:26 NeWtoz yes
06:27 NeWtoz the command for that is tar -xvvf, but I'm sure there is some fancy program that will do it for you
06:27 speedrunnerG55 all i have to do is run it
06:27 NeWtoz pretty much
06:27 NeWtoz or at least that is all I did
06:27 speedrunnerG55 doubble click the text file and run in terminal
06:28 NeWtoz double click the cpu-g file
06:28 speedrunnerG55 this is exatly waht i wanted thank you
06:28 NeWtoz it won't tell you your cpu clock and multiplier, but meh

06:30 speedrunnerG55 thank you annyway
06:32 speedrunnerG55 my cpu is 64 bits?
06:32 speedrunnerG55 o_o does this mean i can run a 64 bit os?
06:33 speedrunnerG55 i never noticed my 64 bit cpu
06:33 NeWtoz depends, what cpu do you have?
06:33 speedrunnerG55 celeron
06:33 NeWtoz then I highly doubt it
06:34 speedrunnerG55 ok
06:35 speedrunnerG55 when it says astepping? is that throttling?
06:35 speedrunnerG55 steepuing*
06:37 astro73|derrial NeWtoz: new celeron-branded CPUs have 64-bit. At least the one I played with this week was
06:38 NeWtoz I was thinking so, but was unsure
06:38 NeWtoz I haven't researched celerons lately ;)
06:39 speedrunnerG55 mine is old, since i built this pc when i was, i think a sophmore in highschool
06:39 speedrunnerG55 like3 years agoo
06:39 astro73|derrial that _might_ be new enough
06:40 speedrunnerG55 it says 64 bit in cpu-g
06:40 astro73|derrial get a 64-bit live cd and see if it boots
06:40 speedrunnerG55 ughh ok
06:40 speedrunnerG55 .... imah do that
06:40 NeWtoz or find out which exact celeron you have and look it up
06:40 * speedrunnerG55 goes to ubuntu.com
06:41 astro73|derrial that like the definitive way I can think of to test for 64-bit
06:41 speedrunnerG55 ok ill do that instead
06:41 lwq1996 which is better a 32bit or 64
06:42 astro73|derrial lwq1996: unless you do some serious stuff, i don't think it actually makes much difference at this point
06:42 NeWtoz yeah
06:42 astro73|derrial most software doesn't hit the 4GB limit of 32b
06:42 lwq1996 ok
06:42 NeWtoz it used to matter in linux with flash support, but not really an issue anymore
06:42 astro73|derrial but their might be a performance difference in CPUs in 32 vs 64 bit modes
06:42 speedrunnerG55 Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.66GHz
06:42 lwq1996 hmmm if my netbook wasnt a atom i would put a 64 in and load ubuntu
06:43 astro73|derrial *there
06:43 astro73|derrial speedrunnerG55: that's not actually very helpful
06:44 speedrunnerG55 i would have to take the cpu out and see whats printed on it, my friend gave me all these parts
06:44 lwq1996 i hate atom why did they ever make it
06:44 speedrunnerG55 and i have no stuff with them
06:44 NeWtoz low power
06:44 NeWtoz and I like my atom
06:44 lwq1996 like they coulnt make it so you could swap cpu's tho
06:45 NeWtoz but I use it as a server, not as a desktop
06:45 astro73|derrial speedrunnerG55: if you really want to know, either pull the part or burn the disc? unless there's another way
06:45 astro73|derrial lwq1996: that's an old intel trick
06:45 lwq1996 i use my atom...battery life is good on it
06:45 speedrunnerG55 faimmly 15?
06:45 astro73|derrial they change sockets every few years
06:45 speedrunnerG55 model 4?
06:46 speedrunnerG55 its a lga 775 socket i remember
06:46 lwq1996 yes astro... i got it in january when i didnt know what a cpu was
06:47 speedrunnerG55 stepping 9
06:47 lwq1996 if i knew that i woulnt of bought it and would of got some parts to upgrade
06:49 speedrunnerG55 im donloading it now
06:49 speedrunnerG55 ubuntu 64 bit. then ill burn to dcc and try to boot it
06:49 speedrunnerG55 cd
06:49 astro73|derrial speedrunnerG55: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Celeron_microprocessors#Netburst_based_Celerons is the best I can come up with
06:49 speedrunnerG55 it be funny if i could
06:49 lwq1996 btw speed are you installing the newest ubuntu
06:50 speedrunnerG55 yes why?
06:50 lwq1996 it sucks
06:51 astro73|derrial oh, found it. It's a Prescott-256 arch
06:51 * NeWtoz was just going to mention that
06:51 NeWtoz since he was 256 l2 cache
06:51 NeWtoz has
06:52 speedrunnerG55 that sounds right
06:52 NeWtoz so yeah, you have intel 64
06:53 speedrunnerG55 so would it be better to run a 64 bit os on it?
06:53 NeWtoz yes and no
06:53 speedrunnerG55 >_>
06:53 astro73|derrial I don't think it's going to make any significant difference to you
06:53 speedrunnerG55 ok
06:54 speedrunnerG55 so i wont do annything and cancel the donload
06:56 speedrunnerG55 i herd linux mint was good
06:56 astro73|derrial afaik, 64 vs 32 only matters in high-performance computing at this point. Either your software needs to be using >4GB of memory (media creation or big server caches), or you have >4GB of RAM (I think)
06:56 speedrunnerG55 its suports more than 4 gb of ram
06:57 speedrunnerG55 2^32 is < 4 Gb
06:57 astro73|derrial speedrunnerG55: 32 or 64? I know 64 does
06:57 NeWtoz 32bit linux supports 32gb of ram I think
06:57 astro73|derrial 2^32 is exactly 4GB by most definitions
06:57 NeWtoz 64gb of ram
06:57 speedrunnerG55 well its not >
06:57 NeWtoz http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_Address_Extension#Linux
06:58 astro73|derrial (that is, everyone except harddrive makers)
06:58 astro73|derrial NeWtoz: ok, thanks
06:58 lwq1996 bed now...night
06:58 speedrunnerG55 so 32 bit adress busses cant handel more than 4 Gb
06:59 speedrunnerG55 but 64 bit can- but its not really 64 bit adress busses
06:59 speedrunnerG55 but its always enough
06:59 astro73|derrial the big difference is user space, not kernel or hardware
07:01 astro73|derrial a 32 bit program only has access to 2^32 virtual addresses. This includes instructions, global data, heap, stack, and kernel overhead. 64 bit programs have access to 2^64 virtual addresses.
07:01 speedrunnerG55 what does virtual mean?
07:01 astro73|derrial It's fuzzier for kernels, since (as NeWtoz pointed out), there's ways for 32-bit kernels to support more than 4GB of RAM
07:02 astro73|derrial virtual means a userspace address may or may not refer to a physical location in the RAM, a location in the swap file, or even allocated space
07:02 speedrunnerG55 ......eh?
07:02 astro73|derrial it's very technical
07:02 speedrunnerG55 ohh
07:02 speedrunnerG55 swap space
07:04 astro73|derrial yeah. pages (chunks of application memory) get moved between ram and swap as needed.
07:05 speedrunnerG55 brb
07:07 speedrunnerG55 back
07:08 astro73|derrial anything else?
07:08 speedrunnerG55 idk
07:09 astro73|derrial oh good. My "infomegadump" strategy worked
07:10 speedrunnerG55 ddr3 had quadroupple the i/o of the core speed? *tries to remember* so if the system clock was 100 it would be 200 making 800 i/o makking 800x8 for the pc speed?
07:11 NeWtoz oh, btw, by the year 2038, you'll want to move to 64bit
07:11 speedrunnerG55 o_o
07:11 speedrunnerG55 whys that?
07:11 astro73|derrial the 3 in ddr3 I think just means that it's the 3rd time it's been upped. I don't know if it would be 3x or 8x
07:12 NeWtoz it's like the 32bit version of the y2k thing
07:12 masterofmonks Points if you can identify this language. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msRy4vcSX4k&NR=1
07:12 astro73|derrial NeWtoz: I thought even 32b was using 64-bit timestamp at this point?
07:13 speedrunnerG55 eh?
07:13 NeWtoz it could be
07:13 speedrunnerG55 time stamp?
07:13 astro73|derrial that's what rolls over in 2038
07:14 NeWtoz time stamp is the time
07:14 NeWtoz kinda
07:14 NeWtoz I need water
07:14 NeWtoz brb
07:16 astro73|derrial basically, a large number of computers store the time as the number of seconds since 00:00:00 january 1, 1970
07:16 speedrunnerG55 1970?!
07:16 masterofmonks Which means that if you ever take your computer to 1969 you will have problems.
07:17 NeWtoz some would say it was a fun year
07:17 speedrunnerG55 lol MoM
07:17 astro73|derrial yes. It's been in use for a long time and that was a decently round number
07:17 astro73|derrial if you do the math, 2^32 seconds after that is in 2038
07:17 speedrunnerG55 january 1st is always the data it takes me when i cear the cmos
07:17 masterofmonks Honestly when was the last time you saw a square number?
07:18 speedrunnerG55 ?
07:18 astro73|derrial mobo defaults are different.
07:18 NeWtoz the number 8 is a little squarish if you have the right font ;)

18:57 BotSteve For me? Thank you! Rainbows taste delicious!
18:58 Seroster 12v 20amps comes out, goes via some switches... through a 0.2ohm resistor. (There was 2 power levels, one bypasses the resistor)... Into the 12v 250w bulb.

18:59 SparkyProjects Is this a projector ?
19:00 Seroster Yes
19:00 Seroster A beuatiful piece that broke down
19:00 Seroster My father bought it for a buck
19:00 Seroster He gave it to me to fix or scrap
19:00 Seroster Ive ben working on the damn thing for ages and it still never worked
19:01 Seroster A few solenoids were toast
19:01 Seroster The fuses were all blown
19:01 Seroster The traces on the circuit boards were fried
19:01 Seroster Lots of solder blobs were broken
19:01 speedrunnerG55 hi SparkyProjects
19:01 BotSteve speedrunnerG55: I have the following messages for you:
19:01 BotSteve At 18:57Z, wannabe1987 asked me to tell speedrunnerG55 nice breakfast
19:01 SparkyProjects Yeah, low power helps protect the lamp, best way is to turn on to low to let it warm up before going full power
19:01 SparkyProjects Also protects the film or slide when left on for a time
19:01 BotSteve At 18:58Z, wannabe1987 asked me to tell speedrunnerG55 http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/294084_2330302937770_1255631835_2908886_2975191_n.jpg
19:01 SparkyProjects Hi Speed :)
19:02 wannabe1987 o.O
19:02 wannabe1987 speed came back
19:02 Seroster The insulation on the wires were the consistency of.. I dunno. Something brittle.
19:02 speedrunnerG55 hi wannabe
19:02 wannabe1987 hi
19:03 speedrunnerG55 i was bored....
19:03 speedrunnerG55 so i made pac man ^_^
19:04 Seroster SparkyProjects, I replaced all the wires. The broken fuses, the broken switches, the broken rubber drive belts, the fan motor (generic mircorwave oven type) and cleaned the lenses
19:04 Seroster I got it to move, I got it to light, I got it to change slides
19:05 Seroster BUT... I never got it to change slides other than if you moved the mechanism with a screwdriver
19:05 Seroster Poke a lever tahtis.
19:06 Seroster And since my father already got 3 fully functioning projectors I decided it isnt worth shipping a solenoid from the norht pole to make this thing work
19:06 injektion I stepped on a pinecone
19:10 SparkyProjects Sounds like a motor or mechanism needs attention
19:10 SparkyProjects is there a remote with it ?
19:10 SparkyProjects If its a wired remote and you haven't got it,then maybe it won't work, unless there are buttons on the projector too
19:15 Seroster Wired remote, and I got it
19:15 Seroster It is that solenoid, and I got nothing that even remotley resembles it
19:15 Seroster And Ive already scrapped the projector, Im thinking about photo studio light
19:16 SparkyProjects Good idea to make a softbox, retain all the switching so you can reduce power
19:17 Seroster Yeah
19:17 speedrunnerG55 If Windows generates parity errors with different addresses,
19:17 speedrunnerG55 you most likely do not have a problem with RAM. These phantom errors can
19:17 speedrunnerG55 occur for a variety of reasons, including software problems, heat or dust, so-
19:17 speedrunnerG55 lar flares, fluctuations in the Force...you get the idea.
19:17 speedrunnerG55 LOL
19:19 SparkyProjects If it's possible to customise the case, i would try to mount the lamp back in position so you can use the lens, but when the lens is removed it gives a spread of light
19:19 SparkyProjects The spread is used for a softbox, the lens is used as a spotlight without the softbox
19:19 SparkyProjects Also would be cool if you can insert colour gels when used as a spot
19:22 injektion Blaming problems with Windows on solar flares? that's a new low

19:30 tonsofpcs what are we doing with gel?
19:30 speedrunnerG55 am i here
19:30 tonsofpcs no
19:30 speedrunnerG55 :(
19:30 tonsofpcs you're in fairlawn. I'm here.
19:31 tonsofpcs (or were you in elmwood park?)
19:32 speedrunnerG55 im in fairlawn @_@
19:32 tonsofpcs speedrunnerG55: are you trying to develop the replacement for a fresnel?
19:33 speedrunnerG55 frensel. like the frensel lense?
19:33 speedrunnerG55 no?
19:33 tonsofpcs yes.
19:33 speedrunnerG55 why
19:34 SparkyProjects tonsofpcs, Seroster has an old slide projector, he wants to use it to make a softbox, i gave him another related use (if he can make it work out) that he could also use it for a spotlight (using the lense) and could use colour gels too
19:34 tonsofpcs ah
19:34 tonsofpcs yea, you could just drop gels into the slide spot
19:35 tonsofpcs heck, a sample-size gel swatchbook ( you can get them free from rosco, lee, gam, etc.) might even be large enough for a 35mm frame
19:35 tonsofpcs mine are all on my desk at work so I can't measure for you
19:35 Seroster I wont
19:36 Seroster I wont even spare the lenses
19:36 Seroster Ill have the transformer, the resistor, the switches, the reflector and the lamp
19:36 Seroster Ill throw it at the ceiling for scattering
19:37 SparkyProjects Or you could hang a white sheet in front
19:37 tonsofpcs buy a sheet of diffusion...
19:37 Seroster Reflecting off a a4 paper works aswell
19:38 SparkyProjects Crumpled tinfoil works as a scatter reflector
19:38 * tonsofpcs prefers C or larger
19:39 Seroster Erm
19:39 Seroster You know the letter isnt reallt what decides size?
19:39 speedrunnerG55 tonsofpcs, ?
19:40 tonsofpcs Seroster: Architectual C is a size unto itself.
19:40 Seroster But it will be far easier for me to get an A3
19:41 tonsofpcs C is roughly A2 iirc
19:41 tonsofpcs 457x610
19:42 tonsofpcs (for Arch, ANSI is 432x559)
19:42 tonsofpcs speedrunnerG55: paper sizes ;)
19:43 tonsofpcs I could go all american and demand tabloid or demy or ...
19:44 speedrunnerG55 tonsofpcs, ??!
19:44 * speedrunnerG55 is so lost, about how the convo went from lenses to paper
19:48 Seroster Almost crying taking this apart
19:49 Seroster A lightbulb gives off light, going to a lens, going to a 45* mirror, through the beam, to another 45*mirror through a lens to a reciever thingy
19:50 Seroster I have no idea how A affect B, but it clearly does in some way
19:54 Seroster Hey SparkyProjects!

20:30 wannabe1987 speedrunnerG55 whats the url for "home" 127.x.x.1?
20:30 masterofmonks 127.0.0.1
20:30 speedrunnerG55 yes
20:31 speedrunnerG55 its a reserved ip adress for loopback
20:31 wannabe1987 doesn't work. i want to get into my router.
20:31 speedrunnerG55 isnt everything in the 127.x.x.x work for loopback
20:31 speedrunnerG55 you need to use your routers gatway
20:31 speedrunnerG55 try 192.168.0.1
20:31 wannabe1987 damn only drew knows that
20:32 masterofmonks Which is usually 192.168.*.* or 10.0.0.*
20:32 masterofmonks Usually 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1
20:32 speedrunnerG55 when would i see 10.0.0.1?
20:33 speedrunnerG55 wannabe can you do a command prompt?
20:33 masterofmonks It depends on the router manufacturer honest.y
20:33 wannabe1987 i dunno
20:33 injektion Also how the network is setup
20:33 injektion My gateway is 192.168.2.1
20:33 wannabe1987 its not ours. drew can get in tho
20:34 injektion Since I cannot turn off DHCP in the crappy AT&T U-Verse gatewat
20:34 injektion gateway*
20:34 speedrunnerG55 see if you can do a command prompt. it should be in acsessories
20:34 speedrunnerG55 0_0 injektion
20:34 wannabe1987 eh. nvm. idk how to use cmd prompt
20:34 injektion Or click start, click run, type in CMD and press enter
20:35 speedrunnerG55 ye >_>
20:35 speedrunnerG55 then type ipconfig
20:35 injektion Then type in ipconfig /all
20:35 speedrunnerG55 or that and get more info
20:36 speedrunnerG55 wouldnt the gateay show up in the normal ipconfig?
20:36 injektion Yes it would
20:38 speedrunnerG55 hmm i just ried to do ifconfig in terminal. i dont see my gateway @_@
20:39 masterofmonks Try a tracert
20:40 masterofmonks With your command line up, type tracert www.google.com
20:40 masterofmonks The very first hop should be your gateway.
20:41 speedrunnerG55 that didnt work
20:41 speedrunnerG55 douglas@douglas-desktop:~$ tracert www.google.com
20:41 speedrunnerG55 No command 'tracert' found, did you mean:
20:42 NeWtoz traceroute
20:42 masterofmonks speedrunnerG55: that is a windows command.
20:42 * speedrunnerG55 dosent have tracerout installed
20:42 speedrunnerG55 imah get it
20:43 NeWtoz you should..
20:44 speedrunnerG55 still isnt working
20:44 speedrunnerG55 idk
20:44 NeWtoz you can also just do a netsat -rn
20:44 Vladdeh traceroute
20:44 Vladdeh if you're on nix
20:44 Vladdeh not tracert
20:45 injektion how do you make ifconfig show more information?
20:45 speedrunnerG55 ok that worked
20:45 NeWtoz check the man page
20:46 NeWtoz but I think it already shows everything
20:48 speedrunnerG55 one more question
20:48 speedrunnerG55 i forgot how to get to the bootloader on nix (ubuntu)
20:48 speedrunnerG55 when i boot
20:48 speedrunnerG55 was it tab? something?
20:48 NeWtoz explain further
20:49 speedrunnerG55 i do something to get the grub the load
20:49 speedrunnerG55 it dosent load automatically
20:49 speedrunnerG55 it always goes strait to the active partitian
20:53 injektion lol using ipconfig on OS X to change network settings is discouraged
20:54 speedrunnerG55 why?
20:56 injektion In Mac OS X, the ifconfig command functions as a wrapper to the IPConfiguration agent, and can control the BootP and DHCP clients from the command-line. Use of ifconfig to modify network settings in Mac OS X is discouraged, because ifconfig operates below the level of the system frameworks which help manage network configuration. To change network settings in Mac OS X from the command line, use /usr/sbin/ipconfig or /
20:56 injektion usr/sbin/networksetup.
21:01 speedrunnerG55 wouldnt that be a gui?
21:01 injektion No :P
21:01 speedrunnerG55 idk ive never used mac

23:25 SparkyProjects Magnetic dampers maybe ?
23:25 SparkyProjects like shock absorbers
23:26 Katemonster that's what i was thinking
23:29 SparkyProjects Like with the pipe, if you try to force the magnet through, you should feel more resistance
23:30 injektion joined #thegeekgroup
23:31 astro73|derrial I don't think it applies enough force to really be useful
23:31 astro73|derrial at best, it slows it down.
23:31 masterofmonks It has to do with velocity.
23:31 masterofmonks The more velocity you apply the harder the resistance will be.
23:32 * Katemonster is trying to figure out how to build a SABRE engine
23:32 masterofmonks Think like the personal shields in Dune.
23:32 SparkyProjects I'm nit suggesting shock absorbers for a car, but something like reducing shok for a camera maybe
23:32 astro73|derrial but most shock-related applications require more than just slowing it down, right?
23:33 astro73|derrial it actually requires pushing back and restoring equilibriunm
23:33 astro73|derrial right?
23:34 Seroster http://www.wimp.com/morningroutine/ lol
23:34 Seroster I remember that from my school days

23:34 Seroster I fell alseep in the stairs
23:34 Seroster ^o)
23:35 SparkyProjects But this would be added to an existing system that has equilibrium
23:35 astro73|derrial would it work any better than double springs? It would slow down recovery as well as damage
23:36 Seroster More springs!
23:36 Seroster Always more springs!
23:36 Seroster Springs make stuff good!
23:38 SparkyProjects Springs move quickly and can bounce (think of a car, it has springs, with no shocks it keeps moving, but add shocks and it recovers giving a smooth ride
23:39 tonsofpcs anyone know going rate for 12ga wire and 1/2" conduit for residential install
23:39 Seroster Eh
23:39 Seroster If you don't know that - don't fuck around with mains.
23:39 masterofmonks tonsofpcs: how much do you need?
23:40 astro73|derrial SparkyProjects: fair enough. Maybe it's worth building and trying?
23:41 tonsofpcs mom - 24 ft or so of conduit, 3x of that wire
23:41 tonsofpcs (L/N/G)
23:41 astro73|derrial tonsofpcs: i'm pretty sure the have all-in-one cable for residential stuff
23:42 tonsofpcs i hate romex.
23:42 tonsofpcs can you blame me?
23:42 masterofmonks I see a listing for $152 for 250 feet of 12/3 romex
23:42 SparkyProjects It would be good to test the theory
23:42 SparkyProjects I would say get a couple of light springs so you can suspend the magnet in the middle, then bounce it up and down at different rates, then substitute the magnet for an equivalent weight and test again
23:43 masterofmonks And another listing of $138 for 250 feet of romex.
23:44 astro73|derrial SparkyProjects: that's like scientific and everything!
23:44 masterofmonks tonsofpcs: you want single solid conductor insualted wire?
23:44 SparkyProjects If it's the same as UK, you don't put romex in conduit, you put singles in
23:44 masterofmonks insulated*
23:44 masterofmonks SparkyProjects: I put *everything in conduit.
23:45 Seroster I have this love/hate relationship with romex
23:45 masterofmonks Code is just the way of saying "We can't build it cheaper legally."
23:47 SparkyProjects I prefer conduit or trunking, you can run more circuits neatly, and it's relatively easy to make alterations without destroying decor
23:47 SparkyProjects I could go for mineral insulated, but that's the expensive way
23:48 masterofmonks Wehn I build my house it will ahve all kinds of things that are not "code" but will exceed it.
23:49 SparkyProjects Always good to exceed code :)
23:49 masterofmonks For example every outlet will be on a seperate breaker.
23:49 Seroster The geek motto
23:49 SparkyProjects Code is the minimum
23:49 Seroster That's overkill, masterofmonks =P
23:49 masterofmonks No, that is logical.
23:50 SparkyProjects masterofmonks, that's just madness, but then again you don't use ring circuits :P

23:51 astro73|derrial that's intense
23:51 astro73|derrial also, some would argue that destroys decor
23:51 lwq1996 hello
23:51 masterofmonks I care not a whit for decor.
23:51 Seroster I bet you'll have a nuclear bomb shelter stacked for 25 years too, eh?
23:52 masterofmonks no, but it's not a *bad* idea.
23:52 SparkyProjects masterofmonks, try to buy a house on 'elm st', when you eventually sell the house it's going to be a nightmare for someone :P
23:52 SparkyProjects :D
23:52 Seroster But it is, like a breaker per outlet, a bit overkil.
23:52 injektion Whenever I get a house I am putting stainless steel everywhere
23:53 Seroster injektion, Just buy a morgue?
23:53 astro73|derrial the morgue on elm st?
23:53 injektion On the floor,etc
23:54 Seroster Sounds great, injektion, but will look awful
23:54 Seroster But I am all for durable floors. atm I'm living on a millimeter of vinyl on concrete :c
23:55 SparkyProjects Stainless steel shows fingerprints, i'd hate to see it on the floor :P
23:55 masterofmonks SparkyProjects: Not really because there will be numbered addresses for every outlet and fixture that will have a coresponding breaker.
23:55 eadthem go for wood or carpet but leave the stanless for the kitchan counter
23:56 Seroster IF THAT
23:56 lwq1996 my dream house would have granite everywhere...it would cost a fourtone but i dont care
23:57 speedrunnerG55 Hello
23:57 masterofmonks SparkyProjects: Think like this Room 1 Outlet 3 so 1:3
