We're chaning our boost targets |
| 03:01 |
|
LeadHead |
We were shooting for 7-8 PSI, but I was doing some reading on a couple of 460 specific forums |
| 03:02 |
|
LeadHead |
That pressure would be pushing 500 crank HP on most any stock 460 |
| 03:02 |
|
LeadHead |
so we're going for <6 PSI |
| 03:03 |
|
Toastdude |
But I don't know how to use it... |
| 03:03 |
|
tlockley |
you need to add a server to connect to |

tlockley |
undercarrage? |
| 03:42 |
|
LeadHead |
Every single hose you see there goes to the gas tank |
| 03:42 |
|
LeadHead |
no |
| 03:42 |
|
LeadHead |
inside the rear cargo hatch area |
| 03:43 |
|
tlockley |
why are there so many hoses going to the tank? |
| 03:43 |
|
LeadHead |
not a clue |
| 03:44 |
|
Cprossu |
they look in good condition though at least |
| 03:44 |
|
Cprossu |
4 total |
| 03:44 |
|
Cprossu |
or 5? |
| 03:44 |
|
Cprossu |
only one tank right? |
| 03:45 |
|
LeadHead |
one tank |
| 03:45 |
|
Cprossu |
weird. |
| 03:45 |
|
LeadHead |
the 5 lines not including filler neck and breather |
| 03:45 |
|
LeadHead |
go to the top of the tank |
| 03:45 |
|
Cprossu |
one will be for evap |
| 03:45 |
|
LeadHead |
nope |
| 03:45 |
|
LeadHead |
evap, supply, and return lines |
| 03:45 |
|
LeadHead |
are underneath |
| 03:45 |
|
Cprossu |
o_o |
| 03:45 |
|
LeadHead |
so there are 8 lines comiing from top of the tank |
| 03:46 |
|
Cprossu |
the evap line should be attached to a evap relief at the top of the tank though |
| 03:46 |
|
Cprossu |
the thing have a rollover valve? |
| 03:46 |
|
LeadHead |
I have no idea |
| 03:46 |
|
LeadHead |
i should probably drop the tank |
| 03:46 |
|
Cprossu |
we could find out easily (pushes LeadHead's landcruiser over sideways) |
| 03:46 |
|
Cprossu |
j/k |
| 03:46 |
|
LeadHead |
since I have to fix my fuel level sending unit wiring |
| 03:47 |
|
Cprossu |
are you really sure you want to open that bag of worms (and smelly gas) though |
| 03:47 |
|
LeadHead |
I'd like a working gas gauge |
| 03:47 |
|
Cprossu |
there any vac lines going to your rear diff? |
| 03:47 |
|
LeadHead |
nope |
| 03:48 |
|
LeadHead |
I've put over $120 worth of gas into the tank the past week and a half, so any old gas should be gone |
| 03:48 |
|
Cprossu |
ooooh I think I might know what one of those things is |
| 03:48 |
|
Cprossu |
is your gascap of the sealing type? |
| 03:48 |
|
LeadHead |
my gas cap looks like a radiator cap |
| 03:48 |
|
LeadHead |
with a big ol rubber seal |
| 03:49 |
|
Cprossu |
then one or more of those is a 'snorkel' |
| 03:49 |
|
LeadHead |
oh? |
| 03:49 |
|
Cprossu |
air normally gets sucked through the gas cap |
| 03:49 |
|
LeadHead |
I have to drop the tank anyways |
| 03:49 |
|
Cprossu |
when gas gets used. |
| 03:49 |
|
LeadHead |
I was poking round the lines |
| 03:49 |
|
LeadHead |
and sure enough, one pulled off from the top of the tank |
| 03:49 |
|
Cprossu |
one or more has gotta be an air inlet then |
| 03:49 |
|
Cprossu |
imo |
| 03:50 |
|
Cprossu |
think of what happens if water is up to your gascap |
| 03:50 |
|
LeadHead |
Yes |
| 03:50 |
|
LeadHead |
I really just want to rip the whole drivetain out |
| 03:50 |
|
LeadHead |
gas tank, engine, tranny |
| 03:50 |
|
Cprossu |
there's probably a check valve in one or all of them |
| 03:50 |
|
LeadHead |
and replace it with something less |

| 14:14 |
|
tlockley |
well I am just using their vps chunks but I have two servers ATM |
| 14:14 |
|
tlockley |
one is my personaly production box that doesent have much on it |
| 14:14 |
|
tlockley |
the other a chunk with 2GB of ram and 80GB of disk |
| 14:14 |
|
tlockley |
with 3.2T of transfer per month |
| 14:14 |
|
Sasha_ |
Ah ok. Are they any good? I need one for a seed box that will also host a media-heavy website |
| 14:15 |
|
tlockley |
They are decent and inexpensive |
| 14:15 |
|
tlockley |
i used to run a minecraft server on the 2GB chunk |
| 14:15 |
|
tlockley |
there were never any latency issues |
| 14:16 |
|
Sasha_ |
Nah, they're too expensive for me |
| 14:16 |
|
tlockley |
for you, you might want to look into a dedicated host |
| 14:16 |
|
tlockley |
and they are dirt cheap comparted to mediatemple |
| 14:18 |
|
Sasha_ |
For 22£ (like 28$ last time I checked) I can get 2GB burst ram, 450gb HDD, unmetered (max 100tb) gigabit line |

I found them through torrent-invites, where users reported that they could max out their connection and hdd at 40mb/s almost constantly |
| 14:20 |
|
tlockley |
not bad |
| 14:20 |
|
Sasha_ |
You could only go faster if you get a ssd |
| 14:21 |
|
tlockley |
but then you run the risk of massive failure |
| 14:21 |
|
Sasha_ |
with what |
| 14:21 |
|
tlockley |
SSDs |
| 14:21 |
|
Sasha_ |
???? |
| 14:21 |
|
Sasha_ |
how? |
| 14:22 |
|
tlockley |
ssds last for a while but when they fail for whatever reason they do a very good job of taking all the data with them |
| 14:22 |
|
tlockley |
where as when a HDD fails, you can still extract the data off the magnetic platers if you know what you are doing |
| 14:22 |
|
Sasha_ |
Never had an SSD fail on me (although I shouldn't be talking, I've only used an SSD powered macbook for 2 weeks :P) |
| 14:22 |
|
Sasha_ |
BTW, whatever happened to backups? |
| 14:23 |
|
tlockley |
most people are too lazy to keep concurrent backups |
| 14:23 |
|
Sasha_ |
Who doesn't have any backps what so ever *cough*me*cough* :P |
| 14:23 |
|
Sasha_ |
?? |
| 14:24 |
|
tlockley |
my local newspaper doesent keep offsite backups |
| 14:24 |
|
tlockley |
we had all 4 of their rad5 arrays fail in one week at one point |
| 14:24 |
|
tlockley |
because they never listend to us |
| 14:24 |
|
tlockley |
then it cost them about $10,000 to get all the data recovered |
| 14:25 |
|
tlockley |
I now have both of their old RAID frames one of which I am sending to Leonard St. |
| 14:25 |

lol |
| 15:25 |

in fact the first magnetic tape was made from paper |
| 15:25 |

interesting, was that because of a lack of plastic technology or cost? |

|
Hackbat |
I think of lack of tech |
| 15:26 |

interesting |
| 15:26 |

they USED to use steel tape |

tlockley: those look cool. |
| 16:14 |
|
tlockley |
yah, they work prety well |
| 16:14 |
|
tlockley |
the problem is that they use arc fault breakers so they dont like the spiking and peaking that amplifiers like to do |
| 16:14 |
|
tlockley |
when drawing power |
| 16:16 |
|
tlockley |
plus we would always push the breakes to their limit because our ams draw 20A even at 8ohms |
| 16:16 |
|
tlockley |
*amps |
| 16:18 |
|
SparkyProjects |
tlockley, why not build your own, a weatherproof enclosure with whatever connectors you want, and whatever overcurrent/earth fauld devices you want |
| 16:18 |
|
SparkyProjects |
*fault |
| 16:19 |
|
tlockley |
because we needed something that would work every time and i am not a licensed electrician |
| 16:20 |
|
tlockley |
plus I was working for a state institution |
| 16:21 |
|
SparkyProjects |
But it would be a pain if it kept tripping out during a performance |
| 16:21 |
|
SparkyProjects |
Maybe an electrician can change the type of breakers for you |
| 16:21 |
|
tlockley |
so everything we wanted to get had to be approved ans procured or bid on if the price was too high |
| 16:21 |
|
tlockley |
we managed to mitigate the trip issue but allocatin one 20A circuit per amplifier |
| 16:22 |
|
SparkyProjects |
If they are standard pattern breakers, then you can get 'motor rated' breakers, they allow a surge upon start up |
| 16:22 |
|
tlockley |
yah. well i dont work there anymore so its not really my problem anymore |
| 16:23 |

Well you'll know if there's a next time :) |

| 16:29 |
|
SparkyProjects |
We had a problem with a lab at work, it was fine to start with, but after a power cut all the machines restarted at the same time, so we just changed the breaker to a motor rated one of the same amperage, no more problems |
| 16:30 |
|
tlockley |
nice. Yah we probably should have changed them to motor breakers. except the schools electricians kept claiming that because it was an outdoor box they we had to have GFCI breakers |

What is the differnce of a symmetric vs an unsymetric load? |
| 17:13 |
|
SparkyProjects |
wassup ? |
| 17:14 |
|
Seroster |
...And what defines a symetric load? |
| 17:14 |
|
SparkyProjects |
Symetric is a balanced load, asymetric is unbalanced |
| 17:14 |
|
tlockley |
hey tonsofpcs can i pick your brain for a moment |
| 17:14 |
|
SparkyProjects |
So for a 3 phase motor, the current on all phases should be the same |
| 17:16 |
|
SparkyProjects |
If you get an industrial building with a 3 phase supply, it's common to find that some idiot has loaded one phase more than the others, that would be an asymetric load |
| 17:17 |
|
tlockley |
thats gotta be annoying |

looks like there is a tour up in tggmc |
| 17:21 |
|
SparkyProjects |
It also costs the company more, as you are charged in a way that takes closer to the highest KW, rather than the average |
| 17:21 |
|
SparkyProjects |
I've beeninvolved in several load balancing exercises, it's not easy, you havve to start with the building running close to full capacity and get as many readings as possible, then you have to work out where everything needs to be moved to in the dist boards |
| 17:21 |
|
Seroster |
O |
| 17:21 |
|
Seroster |
And why is an unbalanced load bad? |
| 17:22 |
|
SparkyProjects |
Think of a 3 phase supply transformer, the fluxes would not be equal, and can cause overheating |
| 17:23 |
|
SparkyProjects |
That also mean that the supply companies need to generate more power that is not needed if the load was balanced |

BotSteve |
Cprossu: I have the following messages for you: |
| 20:14 |
|
BotSteve |
At 14:52Z, tlockley asked me to tell Cprossu that the Dubner 20K does infact use Bernoulli disk from what I can find. They are the first revision style (5, 10, 20MB) disks |
| 20:14 |
|
Cprossu |
thanks tlockley |
| 20:15 |
|
speedrunnerG55 |
Hi Cprossu |
| 20:15 |
|
tlockley |
yah apparently the original disks are 8x11x.5 |
| 20:15 |
|

hi there! |
| 20:26 |
|
Toastdude |
Hi angy |
| 20:26 |
|
Cprossu |
BotSteve: tell egrsteve http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1tEzpYoG-U <- check the computer museum and the autopsy table for one of these disks please (First rev 5,10,20 megabyte 8" bernouli disks which fit the Dubner 20-K) |
| 20:26 |
|
BotSteve |
Cprossu: I'll pass that on when egrsteve is around. |
| 20:28 |
|
tlockley |
we think |
| 20:29 |
|
Cprossu |
tlockley it definetely is. |
| 20:29 |
|
tlockley |
sweet. I found that out initially because of a flash cards(as in study tool) website |
| 20:29 |
|
Cprossu |
way cool. |
| 20:30 |
|
tlockley |
http://www.flashcardmachine.co[…]54-vol-2cont.html |
| 20:30 |
|
Cprossu |
all I knew was that it was bigger than anything I thought, I originally thought it was bernouli but I found a 'newer' 5.25" one and was like... wtf now |
| 20:30 |
|
Cprossu |
actually |
| 20:30 |
|
Cprossu |
it had a scsi port |
| 20:30 |
|
Cprossu |
I wonder if that drive went to the 20-K so they could use newer bernouli carts |
| 20:31 |
|
tlockley |
maybe |
| 20:32 |
|
Cprossu |
BotSteve: tell egrsteve also bring up the 20-K and the 'newer' bernouli drive, hopefully you can find a scsi cord that goes with it somewhere. hook it up, cross your fingers, and see if it boots up then. |
| 20:32 |
|
BotSteve |
Cprossu: I'll pass that on when egrsteve is around. |
| 20:32 |
|
Cprossu |
that would kick butt |
| 20:33 |
|

whats wrong with google music? |
| 20:34 |
|
angy |
it's a google service? |
| 20:34 |

| 20:34 |
|
tlockley |
exactly |
| 20:34 |
|
tlockley |
i love it |
| 20:34 |
|
angy |
if it's done google style... |
| 20:34 |
|
Hackbat |
with a 20,000 song max |
| 20:35 |
|
Hackbat |
what do you mean google style? |
| 20:36 |
|
Hackbat |
Add in the fact it will analyze your libray and allow you to make mixes based on songs |
| 20:36 |
|
angy |
that feature is quite old, and not a google thing |
| 20:36 |
|
tlockley |
but it is nifty nonetheless |
| 20:37 |
|
angy |
for sure |
| 20:37 |
|
angy |
quite funny sometimes as well |
| 20:37 |
|
Hackbat |
yeah but it does it without me having to baby sit or run the process myself |

| 21:09 |

| 21:09 |
|
Cprossu |
besides the crashing apache does? |
| 21:09 |
|
Cprossu |
hrmm |
| 21:09 |
|
angy_ |
not apache crashing |
| 21:09 |
|
Cprossu |
have you guys figured out the chain of events then? |
| 21:09 |
|
Cprossu |
when I was still at the lab you guys haden't yet figured it out |
| 21:10 |
|
angy_ |
there are quite a few questions marks on the road |
| 21:10 |
|
angy_ |
dream host setup is so... wrong |
| 21:10 |
|
Cprossu |
I know it leads to a complete sytem lock up |
| 21:10 |
|
Cprossu |
eventually |
| 21:10 |
|
angy_ |
that is very difficult to know really what's going on |
| 21:10 |
|
Cprossu |
which means one or more things get put in a race condition |
| 21:10 |
|
angy_ |
back up |
| 21:10 |
|
tlockley |
is the site on a VPS or shared host? |
| 21:10 |
|
angy_ |
it seems even worse that that |
| 21:11 |
|
Cprossu |
wow. |
| 21:11 |
|
Cprossu |
I'd like a chance to look at the hardware itself heh |
| 21:11 |
|
angy_ |
let me drive a nail into my dns server and I'll give you a shot at the inner problem :) |
| 21:12 |
|
Cprossu |
haha\ |
| 21:12 |
|
angy_ |
I had some issue with a /28 or so lately |
| 21:16 |
|
angy_ |
so, now I think I killed at least a dns server |
| 21:17 |
|
Cprossu |
yikes. |
| 21:19 |
|
angy_ |
for the short story, I have somehow a rogue dns server that does not really accept updates, and is very strange |
| 21:19 |
|
Cprossu |
rofl. is this at your place or at dh? |
| 21:19 |

| 21:22 |
