Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this javaacript? |
| 00:18 |
|
masterofmonks |
three = "hello".substring(0,2) |
| 00:18 |
|
lwq-home |
hmmm idk |
| 00:19 |
|
angy |
I'd say, you can't use "hello".substring? |
| 00:19 |
|
angy |
you have to use a temp var to store hello |
| 00:20 |
|
masterofmonks |
So.. |
| 00:21 |
|
masterofmonks |
var three = "hello".substring(0,2) |
| 00:21 |
|
masterofmonks |
? |
| 00:21 |
|
angy |
var str = hello; |
| 00:21 |
|
angy |
three = str.sub... |

damn... i need to get that updated file from him again |
| 00:23 |
|
angy |
ho I got it |
| 00:23 |
|
angy |
" vs ' |
| 00:23 |
|
masterofmonks |
vs? |
| 00:23 |
|
angy |
three = 'hello'.substring(0,2); |
| 00:23 |
|
angy |
you need to use single quote, not double auotes |
| 00:24 |
|
angy |
that should work |
| 00:25 |
|
masterofmonks |
Nope. |
| 00:25 |
|
angy |
that *works* I just did the link you showed |
| 00:25 |
|
angy |
> three = 'hello'.substring(0,3); |
| 00:25 |
|
angy |
==> hel |
| 00:25 |
|
angy |
> |
| 00:25 |
|
masterofmonks |
It works, but does not satisfy the problem. |
| 00:25 |
|
angy |
it *is* wrong, but it works |
| 00:26 |
|
masterofmonks |
Ok, I see what I was doing. |
| 00:26 |
|

with specific pieces of hardware |

I think it was a notebook or an LC model. |

its purely a IRQ issue because as soon as i use load.exe windows stops handling irq's on request and starts polling hardware in advance |

Although the "head," or toilet, in a submarine looks like its terrestrial counterpart, there are major differences. Waste on a submarine is transferred into a holding tank below the commode via a hand-operated ball valve. To remove it, the tank is pressurized up to 700 psi (49.2 kg/sq. cm) and the waste is then blown outside the pressure hull. |

| 06:35 |
|
pegasus |
you're asking a question about weight, not mass |
| 06:35 |
|
Cprossu |
no I am meaning to ask about mass. |
| 06:35 |
|
Cprossu |
as in the output should be the same of the output |
| 06:35 |
|
pegasus |
weight is about continuous downward force from gravity, mass is a property of matter which doesn't change at rest |
| 06:35 |
|
Cprossu |
and grams shouldn't change |
| 06:35 |
|
Cprossu |
exactly |
| 06:35 |
|
Cprossu |
mass doesn't change. |
| 06:36 |
|
Cprossu |
why in the world did it change there? |
| 06:36 |
|
pegasus |
but the weight of 30 gram object on mars is the same weight as a 19 gram object on earth |
| 06:36 |
|
Cprossu |
a 50gram object is 50grams whether it's on mars or earth. |
| 06:36 |
|
pegasus |
which is what wolfram alpha is saying |
| 06:36 |
|
Cprossu |
or in space. |
| 06:36 |
|
Cprossu |
except it didn't. |
| 06:36 |
|
pegasus |
i'm talking about relative weight :) |
| 06:37 |
|
Cprossu |
but you don't measure relative weight in grams. |
| 06:37 |
|
pegasus |
and so is wolfram alpha, but not being explicit, because science noobs ask questions like "how much would i weigh on the moon lol" |
| 06:37 |
|
Cprossu |
hence it just said 50 grams = 19 grams because it converted grams to lb. |
| 06:37 |
|
Cprossu |
and back again |
| 06:38 |
|
Cprossu |
the point is 50 grams is 50 grams. |
| 06:38 |
|
Cprossu |
right?! |
| 06:38 |
|
pegasus |
it actually talks about pounds force higher up on the page |
| 06:38 |
|
Av_Nekoroms |
some lost in translation |
| 06:38 |
|
pegasus |
where "force" matters more |
| 06:39 |
|
pegasus |
but the simplified answer for the masses is 19 grams |
| 06:39 |
|
Cprossu |
lbs are based on the force of gravity, grams however are not. |
| 06:39 |
|
pegasus |
it also spits out the formula, mass m of a body from weight = mass * gravity |
| 06:40 |
|
Cprossu |
exactly so gravity is factored out of a mass. |
| 06:41 |
|
pegasus |
so it takes Xg (mars normal) times 30 grams = weight, then that result over 1g (earth normal) gravity = 19g |
| 06:41 |
|
pegasus |
get it? |
| 06:41 |
|
Cprossu |
no. |
| 06:41 |
|
pegasus |
it's a simplified answer for the people that don't understand the difference between mass and weight |
| 06:41 |

50g weight on mars = 0.0417lbf (pounds force) |

if they added the gravitational force of mars attached to the grams answer |

pegasus |
it's not technically wrong, the corresponding mass in earth normal gravity = 19 grams |
| 06:49 |

it would be correct. |

. So we got to the power supply |
| 07:00 |
|

back then it was rather easy to put the plugs in backwards. |

|

this isn't an issue with the big 4 pin molex |

ahh |
| 07:33 |
|
Cprossu |
and why wolfram was giving a result that wasn't useful |
| 07:34 |
|
CaptainNiobe |
? wolfram? |
| 07:34 |
|
Cprossu |
.wa 50g weight on mars |
| 07:34 |
|
Cprossu |
wolfram alpha |
| 07:34 |
|
BotSteve |
Mars->weight;0.0417 lbf (pounds-force);185 mN (millinewtons);0.185 N (newtons);18500 dynes, (unit officially deprecated);18.9 ponds;0.0189 kp (kiloponds);Mass m of a body from w = mg:, ->0.0013 slugs, ->19 grams |
| 07:34 |
|
CaptainNiobe |
ahh, the botsteve thing |
| 07:34 |
|
Cprossu |
no it's more than a botsteve thing |
| 07:34 |
|
Cprossu |
http://www.wolframalpha.com/ |
| 07:36 |
|
Cprossu |
so yes it would take a 19g weight's weight on mars to be equivalent to a 50g weight's weight |
| 07:36 |
|
Cprossu |
but that's not really what was asked. |
| 07:36 |
|
CaptainNiobe |
i'll check it out another time, i'm still cursing at this rollerdoor failing to open yet again... |
| 07:36 |
|
Cprossu |
or was that the other way around |
| 07:37 |
|
Cprossu |
either way a 50g mass on mars is 50g on earth |
| 07:39 |
|
CaptainNiobe |
weight is subjective to gravitational fields, earth gravity is know as 1... mars, i believe, has a lesser gravitational influence, so the lesser weight simply applies to that, BASED ON earth's "1" gravity... if it were based on mars' gravity, the results here would be heavier... that's all... it's perception and the recognised measurement (which is earth's gravity) |
| 07:39 |
|
Cprossu |
the issue is the fact it's in grams. |
| 07:40 |
|
Cprossu |
nothing more. |
| 07:40 |
|
CaptainNiobe |
? |
| 07:40 |
|
Cprossu |
19grams is not a weight |
| 07:40 |
|
Cprossu |
as in it does not factor in the force of gravity |
| 07:41 |
|
Cprossu |
that's one thing that differentiates lbs from grams |
| 07:41 |
|
* wannabe1987 |
is happy to be moving out....i cause drama, did you know that? |
| 07:42 |
|
CaptainNiobe |
i don't see how it's any different... else it would be the same with pounds and kilograms... |
| 07:43 |
|
Cprossu |
ok F=M*A right. |
| 07:43 |
|
Cprossu |
for the most part |
| 07:43 |
|
Cprossu |
until you get 3/4 the speed of light at least |
| 07:44 |
|
pegasus |
weight = mass * acceleration of gravity |
| 07:44 |
|
Cprossu |
yes. |
| 07:44 |
|
* CaptainNiobe |
just got lost |
| 07:44 |
|
Cprossu |
9.8 M/s^2 is the acceleration due to gravity follow |
| 07:44 |
|
pegasus |
mars gravity = 12.2 ft/s^2, earth = 32.2 ft/s^2 |
| 07:44 |
|
Cprossu |
weight in lbs however. |
| 07:44 |
|
Cprossu |
includes this. |
| 07:45 |
|
Cprossu |
anything measured in grams is a 'mass' |
| 07:45 |
|
Cprossu |
as opposed to a weight. |
| 07:45 |
|
pegasus |
if you prefer metric, mars gravity = 3.71 m/s^2 |
| 07:45 |
|
Cprossu |
the point is if I asked it in lbs it would be correct. |
| 07:45 |
|
pegasus |
but for equivalence, mars(19g) == earth(50g) |
| 07:46 |
|
Cprossu |
but it's not. |
| 07:46 |
|
pegasus |
where mars() and earth() return weight |
| 07:46 |
|
Cprossu |
the weight is |
| 07:46 |
|
Cprossu |
equivalient |
| 07:46 |
|
Cprossu |
the mass is not |
| 07:47 |
|
Cprossu |
.wa .11lb weight on mars |
| 07:47 |
|
pegasus |
Niobe: weight is a measure of the force required to keep an object at a certain height away from the center of mass of a body of gravitational influence |
| 07:47 |
|
BotSteve |
Mars->weight;0.04161 lbf (pounds-force);185.1 mN (millinewtons);0.1851 N (newtons);18511 dynes, (unit officially deprecated);18.88 ponds;0.01888 kp (kiloponds);Mass m of a body from w = mg:, ->0.0013 slugs, ->19 grams |
| 07:47 |
|
pegasus |
it's a term of acceleration between two bodies of given masses |
| 07:48 |
|
Cprossu |
^ the problem is that it thinks I am asking ^this question |
| 07:48 |
|
pegasus |
weight varies depending on both objects, mass does not |
| 07:48 |
|
CaptainNiobe |
so simplify it for me (not my area lol)... similier to net weight of a box of cereal, riight? the weight, in grams, signifies the amount of content in the box instead of actual weight, so the box might weigh the same, but the amount of contents varies... right? (probs over simplifying things, but that makes sense to me lol) |
| 07:48 |
|
Cprossu |
or rather the forces which act upon each object pegasus |
| 07:49 |
|
Cprossu |
yes CaptainNiobe |
| 07:49 |
|
pegasus |
cprossu is of the opinion that wolfram alpha is just plain wrong rather than oversimplified for the easy consumption of data by the luddite masses |
| 07:49 |
|
Cprossu |
so if I had 2 boxes of cereal with the 'same mass' |
| 07:49 |
|
Cprossu |
the one on mars would 'weigh less' |
| 07:50 |
|
pegasus |
i'm of the opinion that people are stupid, and wolfram alpha is just answering the question that most people would mean, rather than the technical question answered (which it actually does answer in the same results) |
| 07:50 |
|
Cprossu |
but would contain the exact same mass. |
| 07:50 |
|
* CaptainNiobe |
feels decidedly dumb at the moment |
| 07:51 |
|
pegasus |
the question that i'm annoyed it can't answer is http://www.wolframalpha.com/in[…]object+at+1%2F2+c |
| 07:52 |
|
pegasus |
it understands 1/2 c just fine, but not the concept of relative mass, apparently |
| 07:53 |
|
Cprossu |
if you were to eat the same exact size cereal package on either planet you'd get the same amount of calories out of it, it's mass would be the same, but it would weigh less on mars. it doesn't lose any of it's 'content' just by being acted on by differing forces. make sense CaptainNiobe? |
| 07:54 |
|
pegasus |
so cprossu, are you familiar with the juno space probe? |
| 07:55 |
|
Cprossu |
nope |
| 07:55 |
|
pegasus |
the juno space probe is a craft launched last month, i think, on a 5 year cruise to jupiter |
| 07:55 |
|
CaptainNiobe |
yeah, but that kinda *does* come back to weight and perception of weight... what i said earlier, it ONLY weighs less on mars because of human perception that earth's gravity is equal to 1, and marss gravity is less... doesn't it? i already knew mass didn't decrease because of various gravitational influences... |
| 07:55 |
|
Cprossu |
I stopped following things about 4 years ago space program wise |
| 07:55 |
|
Cprossu |
no, it actually does weigh less. |
| 07:56 |
|
pegasus |
next year sometime it's going to come around in its solar orbit to grab a slingshot speed boost from earth to fling it out on its final approach to jupiter |
| 07:56 |
|
Cprossu |
CaptainNiobe force of gravity is a 'real' force |
| 07:56 |
|
pegasus |
the thing that gets me is, we keep doing this |
| 07:56 |
|
Cprossu |
but it's exceptionally weak. |
| 07:57 |
|
pegasus |
every time we give a little bit of our momentum to a probe to get it out of its orbit like this, we lose a little bit of our momentum |
| 07:57 |
|
Cprossu |
it's such a weak force that the entire freaking planet's mass doesn't keep you from jumping off of it CaptainNiobe |
| 07:57 |
|
pegasus |
given the differences in masses, it's very small, but the thing is, eventually, if we keep doing it, we'll lose enough to alter our orbit to the point that we'll start noticing |
| 07:58 |
|
Cprossu |
pegasus eathquakes fuck up more than that |
| 07:58 |
|
pegasus |
earthquakes fuck up our rotation, not our orbit |
| 07:58 |
|
Cprossu |
the more dense a region is the more it screws up our orbit too |
| 07:58 |
|
Cprossu |
remember we are on a tilted axis |
| 07:58 |
|
Cprossu |
the tilted axis is why we can survive on this planet. |
| 07:58 |
|
CaptainNiobe |
i know, but what matters is perception of a recognised measurement... i think mars' gravity is like.38 of earth's gravity (not sure), but the point is, it's .38 of EARTH'S gravity... it's perception... we perceive it as less because of earth's measurement of 1 gravity being the standard... or that's how i see it... |
| 07:59 |
|
Cprossu |
I ignore that '1' standard myself |
| 07:59 |
|
Cprossu |
because it's all relative anyway |
| 07:59 |
|
pegasus |
1G = 32.2f/s/s |
| 07:59 |
|
pegasus |
accelerating upward at 32f/s/s = 2G |
| 08:00 |
|
pegasus |
iirc astronauts get 4G at launch |
| 08:00 |
|
pegasus |
might be more |
| 08:00 |
|
CaptainNiobe |
maybe that's how we coulda crossed wires, i use 1 as the recognised measurement... lol... |
| 08:00 |
|
Cprossu |
technically we can just say 9.8 m/s^2 |
| 08:01 |
|
pegasus |
m/s/s = m/s^2 |
| 08:01 |
|
Cprossu |
yep |
| 08:01 |
|
pegasus |
according to this site it's 1.7g |
| 08:01 |

Ah, no |

MadManMarkAu |
It's... berkley? |
| 15:22 |
|
MadManMarkAu |
Data+stack in RAM, program in ROM, same address space |
| 15:22 |
|
pegasus |
single segment = old CP/M and DOS (for .COM programs) memory model where the stack and the code and any overlay were in the same segment |
| 15:22 |
|
MadManMarkAu |
Ah, yeah |
| 15:22 |
|
MadManMarkAu |
I understand .com |
| 15:23 |
|
MadManMarkAu |
".tiny" directive :P |
| 15:23 |
|
pegasus |
you could still access the MS-DOS equivalent of malloc and grab another segment for your stack pointer, though |
| 15:23 |
|
pegasus |
which is what you'll have to do on the arduino if that's the problem you're having |
| 15:23 |
|
MadManMarkAu |
There was an interrupt routine for that, iirc |
| 15:23 |
|
pegasus |
yes |
| 15:24 |
|
MadManMarkAu |
THe arduino only has 2K of ram |
| 15:24 |
|
MadManMarkAu |
The heap starts at $0000 |
| 15:24 |
|
MadManMarkAu |
The stack grows downwards, and starts at $1FFF |
| 15:24 |
|
pegasus |
i wrote a bit of code a few years ago out of boredom that displayed a bitmap image at 320x240 and the stack chewed up the end of the bitmap overlay |
| 15:24 |
|
MadManMarkAu |
2K? Hang on |
| 15:25 |
|
MadManMarkAu |
Bleh, can't remember how much RAM |
| 15:25 |
|
pegasus |
pissed me off, i had to come up with some clever tomfoolery to get around that |
| 15:25 |
|
pegasus |
probably 2MB, 2k is really tiny |
| 15:25 |
|
MadManMarkAu |
Huh, wow |
| 15:25 |
|
MadManMarkAu |
Oh, no, NOWHERE near 2Mb |
| 15:25 |
|
MadManMarkAu |
It's a 64K address space |
| 15:25 |
|
MadManMarkAu |
But only something like 8K installed |
| 15:26 |
|
pegasus |
hm. |
| 15:27 |
|
pegasus |
well if you've only got the single segment to work with, malloc() isn't going to help you. |
| 15:27 |
|
pegasus |
you're going to have to squeeze the system to make it fit |
| 15:28 |
|
pegasus |
use the stack less, make the code/overlay smaller |
| 15:30 |
|
MadManMarkAu |
Hrm |
| 15:30 |
|
MadManMarkAu |
Dammit |
| 15:30 |
|
MadManMarkAu |
I want to add external RAM to I han put the heap on external and let the internal SRAM be the stack |
| 15:30 |
|
MadManMarkAu |
But nooo, the Arduino wasn't built withthat in mind :< |
| 15:30 |
|
pegasus |
if you're actually calling functions or ISRs (assuming the arduino has such things), don't. inline everything, push nothing, accept data destruction, figure out how to work around it |
| 15:31 |
|
pegasus |
use every register, even if you use it wrong |

In the electrical industry you are supposed to prove that your test equipment works before testing for dead. |
| 17:38 |
|
SparkyProjects |
Even better if you hold the tester on the wire and see it die when your mate turns the power off |
| 17:39 |
|
tonsofpcs |
SparkyProjects: and then test it on something live to prove that your batteries/wiring didn't just die at an inopportune time |
| 17:39 |
|
tonsofpcs |
all of our fusible disconnects have testpoints on both sides (behind the cover, of course) for a reason... |
| 17:40 |
|
SparkyProjects |
We usually turn it on and off a few times, your mate should let you know what he is doing, so he would be shouting 'On - Off - On - Off' |
| 17:41 |
|
tonsofpcs |
we usually shut it off but assume it is hot anyway and work as if it is hot... |

I always remember sometthing that happened a few years ago, we were doing modifications to part of the control system in a grain handling building, we had to run some new wires to the new motor, this can normally be safely done while the circuits are live, we removed the cover on a length of 4x4 steel trunking packed full of wires, the cover has not been removed for many years, i immediately said we had to isola |

tlockley |
shoot |

BatSteve |
Why is this one cheaper, and yet has a higher VA rating? I assume VA is volt*amp (over time)? http://www.amazon.com/APC-Back[…]0V/dp/B0019804U8/ |
| 22:12 |
|
BatSteve |
Maybe it's just a power smoother? |
| 22:12 |
|
tlockley |
no its a UPS. power smoothers arent rated in VA |
| 22:13 |
|
tlockley |
that is strange. go for the cheaper one |
| 22:13 |
|
tlockley |
in reallity they are all built the smae |
| 22:13 |
|
tlockley |
the difference is minor charger and battery changes |

the aluminum piston moves forward with the bullet and closes the cylinder gap; sealed to the case with an o-ring and sealed to the barrel with a plastic washer, while the bullet then leaves the piston and goes down the barrel normally. no need to completely contain the propellant gas inside the cartridge casing, and no need for a forward-moving cylinder like on the Nagant M1895 |

Holding the helicopter rotor to the rotor mast is a very special nut called the Jesus nut. It screws on to the top of the mast. The Jesus nut has a particular shape and strength that insure it remains tight. If the Jesus nut loosens the rotor comes off and the pilot calls out the nut’s name as the helicopter falls like a brick. |
