00:18 masterofmonks Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this javaacript?
00:18 masterofmonks three = "hello".substring(0,2)
00:18 lwq-home hmmm idk
00:19 angy I'd say, you can't use "hello".substring?
00:19 angy you have to use a temp var to store hello
00:20 masterofmonks So..
00:21 masterofmonks var three = "hello".substring(0,2)
00:21 masterofmonks ?
00:21 angy var str = hello;
00:21 angy three = str.sub...

00:22 lwq-home damn... i need to get that updated file from him again
00:23 angy ho I got it
00:23 angy " vs '
00:23 masterofmonks vs?
00:23 angy three = 'hello'.substring(0,2);
00:23 angy you need to use single quote, not double auotes
00:24 angy that should work
00:25 masterofmonks Nope.
00:25 angy that *works* I just did the link you showed
00:25 angy > three = 'hello'.substring(0,3);
00:25 angy ==> hel
00:25 angy >
00:25 masterofmonks It works, but does not satisfy the problem.
00:25 angy it *is* wrong, but it works
00:26 masterofmonks Ok, I see what I was doing.
00:26 masterofmonks I was not using the third position.

02:03 Cprossu good excuse to make the right ones.
02:04 egrsteve ya

02:04 egrsteve I have not been in scense monday

02:07 Toastdude Hi exor674
02:07 wannabe1987 hi dredre
02:07 Cprossu lexicon and mackie are balanced 1/4" TRS, orban is balanced 3 pin.
02:07 tonsofpcs ah, so you had a balanced out but you only had a TS conn.
02:07 Cprossu exactly.
02:07 tonsofpcs yea, I do that all the time... Trying to order some prefab TRS <> XLR cables

02:08 exor674 wannabe1987: hnrgh OW
02:08 wannabe1987 o.O
02:08 tonsofpcs I think that orban actually has transformered inputs though, so it shouldn't be a huge deal... well, other than that whole AM thing that goes on there....
02:08 Cprossu but I wanted to move away from using the motherboard's soundcard like it was fire.
02:08 Cprossu for obvious reasons.
02:08 wannabe1987 .
02:09 Cprossu and it was a good decision too!
02:09 Cprossu we only had 1 balanced 3 pin to TRS,
02:09 Cprossu and I wanted stereo

02:25 Toastdude CaptainNiobe: HI!!!
02:26 CaptainNiobe hey bat, toast :)
02:26 eadthem never ceces to amase me   as soon as i load down the CPU  everything speeds up and improves    blu-ray burning, music crackling,  flash smoothness.
02:26 injektion I love architecture especially his
02:26 eadthem via did some strange shit to this chipset    i will not miss it
02:27 Cprossu blu ray burning is overrated
02:28 eadthem i do it every 3 weeks
02:28 eadthem couple 25GB disks of amazon unbox videos

02:29 lwq-home anyone know what 2 numbers come after this patter....1,4,9,16
02:29 eadthem it was verifying at 1-3x   as soon as i start load.exe  it jumps up to 3-7X
02:29 CaptainNiobe hey lee :) but idk sorry
02:29 exor674 lwq-home: do your own homework?
02:30 eadthem load.exe is just a while loop calling  sleep(0); over and over  thus letting everything else get priority but pulling all extra load itself
02:30 lwq-home i dont get this problem....ive been 30min on this one problem
02:30 eadthem fixes a lot of via chipset issues
02:30 eadthem on athlon boards
02:31 CaptainNiobe lee, if you check around you might be able tofind some homework help forums?

02:31 Cprossu lwq-home and here I thought the way to fix via chipset issues (kt133-kt400) was updaing your 4in1 drivers
02:32 Cprossu *eadthem
02:32 eadthem ya  latist 4in1 dosent do shit for my motherboards
02:32 eadthem motherboard*
02:32 Cprossu granted they changed the name to hyperion
02:32 Cprossu I think
02:32 Cprossu at some point
02:32 eadthem yep
02:32 Cprossu what motherboard do you have?
02:32 Cprossu specifically.
02:34 eadthem MS-6590  KT400 VT8377 chipset   VT8235 south
02:34 Cprossu MSI
02:34 eadthem it has sevear IRQ issues witch is charatiristic of a KT400 266 300 ish chipset
02:34 Cprossu and are there any smaller green capacitors with yellow stripes and a X vent on your motherboard?
02:34 Cprossu yeah it is
02:34 Cprossu but instability is not.
02:34 eadthem naw  caps are perfect
02:34 Cprossu you sure?
02:34 eadthem instablity isnt a issue
02:35 Cprossu what pieces are you having issues with?
02:35 eadthem poor and intermittent irq delays are
02:35 Cprossu with specific pieces of hardware
02:35 eadthem soundblaster crackling when hdd access's
02:36 Cprossu onboard or audigy2?
02:36 eadthem audigy2zs
02:36 injektion I've always found that normal eadthem
02:36 Cprossu it's the soundcard.
02:36 Cprossu go look
02:36 Cprossu g-luxon caps.
02:36 eadthem witch has a long history with the via ktxxx chips
02:36 eadthem it worked fine for the first year  witch i found odd
02:36 Cprossu it has a long history of SUCKING ON ANY CHIPSET
02:36 Cprossu the drivers were a pile of shite
02:37 Cprossu and so  was the hardware
02:37 Cprossu the audigy was their last good soundcard
02:37 Cprossu the audigy 2 sucked ass.
02:37 Cprossu noisy as fuck.
02:37 Cprossu filter caps were the most sucktastic they could find too
02:38 Cprossu and there's a shit ton on that board.
02:38 * Cprossu rages @ the non-usb audigy2's
02:40 Hackbat Did you know, when the mac was in development they pu the system speaker right next to the harddrive, anytime the volume would swell the computer would crash!
02:40 eadthem it works fine in my older KT200 based athlon slotA board   workes fine in my dads 870 or 890 based board
02:40 Cprossu Hackbat wrong.
02:40 Hackbat oh?
02:40 clony joined #thegeekgroup
02:40 Cprossu the original mac did not have a hard drive.
02:40 Cprossu you are thinking of a very specific mac,.
02:40 Cprossu I think it was a notebook or an LC model.
02:40 eadthem its purely a IRQ issue because as soon as i use load.exe  windows stops handling irq's on request and starts polling hardware in advance
02:41 eadthem all audio cleans up and HDD access is faster
02:41 Hackbat there's a documentary on apple where they mention it
02:41 Cprossu yeah there is but it was not "The mac"
02:41 injektion Was it the Mac SE?
02:41 clony FUCK
02:42 Cprossu I want to say it was the non-sony powerbook
02:42 Cprossu but let me check

02:45 Bat-Mobile that is always kept up to date
02:45 Cprossu it was the original mac LC development
02:46 Cprossu they placed the speaker below the hdd
02:46 Cprossu as in the pizza box max
02:46 Cprossu *mac
02:46 Cprossu and it wasn't the magnetic field
02:46 Cprossu it was whenever the volume got high enough
02:46 Cprossu it would vibrate the hdd enough that the heads would bounce.
02:47 Cprossu they also did something similar with the powerbook G4
02:47 CaptainNiobe ssd would have fixed that... :P
02:47 Cprossu with it's subwoofer.
02:47 Hackbat wellt he guy just said when the volume got loud the mac would crash D: he was the one working on it and had to bitch at the hardware guys
02:47 Cprossu SSD didn't fucking exist in 1990
02:47 Cprossu and also CaptainNiobe, LC= Low Cost
02:48 CaptainNiobe lol... good point
02:48 Cprossu just remember though Hackbat the original mac had one sound.
02:48 Cprossu BEEP

05:28 Cprossu and not 1u
05:28 Cprossu Although the "head," or toilet, in a submarine looks like its terrestrial counterpart, there are major differences. Waste on a submarine is transferred into a holding tank below the commode via a hand-operated ball valve. To remove it, the tank is pressurized up to 700 psi (49.2 kg/sq. cm) and the waste is then blown outside the pressure hull.
05:28 Cprossu ^ I guess that explains the warning

06:35 pegasus 19 grams.
06:35 Cprossu WHAT?!
06:35 pegasus you're asking a question about weight, not mass
06:35 Cprossu no I am meaning to ask about mass.
06:35 Cprossu as in the output should be the same of the output
06:35 pegasus weight is about continuous downward force from gravity, mass is a property of matter which doesn't change at rest
06:35 Cprossu and grams shouldn't change
06:35 Cprossu exactly
06:35 Cprossu mass doesn't change.
06:36 Cprossu why in the world did it change there?
06:36 pegasus but the weight of 30 gram object on mars is the same weight as a 19 gram object on earth
06:36 Cprossu a 50gram object is 50grams whether it's on mars or earth.
06:36 pegasus which is what wolfram alpha is saying
06:36 Cprossu or in space.
06:36 Cprossu except it didn't.
06:36 pegasus i'm talking about relative weight :)
06:37 Cprossu but you don't measure relative weight in grams.
06:37 pegasus and so is wolfram alpha, but not being explicit, because science noobs ask questions like "how much would i weigh on the moon lol"
06:37 Cprossu hence it just said 50 grams = 19 grams because it converted grams to lb.
06:37 Cprossu and back again
06:38 Cprossu the point is 50 grams is 50 grams.
06:38 Cprossu right?!
06:38 pegasus it actually talks about pounds force higher up on the page
06:38 Av_Nekoroms some lost in translation
06:38 pegasus where "force" matters more
06:39 pegasus but the simplified answer for the masses is 19 grams
06:39 Cprossu lbs are based on the force of gravity, grams however are not.
06:39 pegasus it also spits out the formula, mass m of a body from weight = mass * gravity
06:40 Cprossu exactly so gravity is factored out of a mass.
06:41 pegasus so it takes Xg (mars normal) times 30 grams = weight, then that result over 1g (earth normal) gravity = 19g
06:41 pegasus get it?
06:41 Cprossu no.

06:49 pegasus "corresponding quantity"
06:50 pegasus the amount of grams that produce the same weight in earth normal gravity
06:50 pegasus 19 grams.
06:50 Cprossu it's still stretching it
06:50 pegasus if nothing else, this is a semantic argument and you're being a pedant, you ought to be able to accept that
06:51 Cprossu no but I will know what to ask of kids in a physics class if I am ever a teacher
06:51 pegasus you and me both.
06:51 Cprossu to see if they just 'wa'ed it'
06:51 Cprossu and wrote down the answer without understanding it
06:52 pegasus i have piles of little things that i'll drill into the heads of students
06:52 pegasus if i ever teach an HTML class, day 1 i'll write "<HTML>" on the board and ask what's wrong with that
06:52 Cprossu I told you about the A+ classes I taught right pegasus?
06:52 pegasus if nobody can answer, i'll just go home.
06:53 Cprossu good times.
06:53 pegasus i don't think you did
06:53 Cprossu ok
06:53 Cprossu first day middle school kids.
06:53 Cprossu keep in mind I was all of 15 or so
06:53 Cprossu 486's I specifically built up
06:53 Cprossu one piece AT style cases
06:53 Cprossu (towers, the bitchy kind)
06:54 Cprossu only thing onboard was the keyboard port.
06:54 pegasus the kind that demand blood
06:54 Cprossu everything else was a controller on it's own
06:54 pegasus apostrophe abuse
06:54 Cprossu so I had 11 boxes, 2 a team
06:54 Cprossu first day.
06:54 Cprossu Take it apart.
06:54 Cprossu we'll discuss it as we take it apart
06:55 Cprossu didn't even let them turn it on.
06:55 Cprossu here's a box, take it apart.
06:56 Cprossu they got to learn what a bitch it was to pull a AT motherboard out and eventually put it back in
06:56 pegasus lots of cables, other than that i've never been particularly bothered by it
06:57 pegasus the thing that i hate is the neato-keen snap-together cases that you have to take a hammer to, to get them apart
06:57 Cprossu I reset the jumpers after they left
06:57 Cprossu sadly some of the motherboards had ledgends on them
06:57 pegasus just give me a side-panel and i'm a happy camper
06:57 Cprossu but they still had to figure out what they meant.
06:58 Cprossu so after they set the jumpers to the hardware they had on the motherboard
06:58 pegasus please appreciate how much i'm not being a grammar nazi right now.
06:58 Cprossu no problem
06:58 Cprossu I could be much better at this if I wanted to
06:58 Cprossu but I need to express my compassion
06:58 Cprossu for what evil things I did
06:58 pegasus go nuts, just appreciate my restraint.
06:58 Cprossu pffft.
06:59 Cprossu So they learned to identify pin 1, what the stripes on the ribbon cables meant, what each port and controller card was for, and why polarity mattered on LED's
07:00 Cprossu . So we got to the power supply
07:00 Cprossu back then it was rather easy to put the plugs in backwards.
07:00 pegasus my ex-wife put a floppy power cable in upside down and caught her computer on fire
07:00 Cprossu so I taught them the black to black rule,  and the best technician to come out of that class
07:00 pegasus raw talent.
07:00 Cprossu pegasus I have a few good ones on that
07:01 Cprossu so black to black rule.
07:01 Cprossu and he asked why you can't put it on backwards
07:01 Cprossu so I said "The power supply will blow up-"  I got cut off.
07:01 Cprossu what I WAS going to say
07:02 Cprossu was "But most power supplies these days will just shut off on you"
07:02 Cprossu but I didn't get that far because
07:02 Cprossu "BANG!"
07:02 pegasus hahahah
07:02 Cprossu the primary caps in the supply blew out, smoke stacks came from the board
07:02 Cprossu man it was killer
07:03 pegasus "OH GOOD JOB, YOU LET THE MAGIC SMOKE OUT"
07:03 Cprossu The theory of magic smoke came later.
07:03 Cprossu they were too green to laugh at it then
07:04 Cprossu so getting back to floppy connectors
07:04 Cprossu there's a horrible thing you can do with one
07:04 Experimentonomen joined #thegeekgroup
07:04 Cprossu you know how they are 12-G-G-5 right?
07:04 Cprossu well often the connectors on nearly everything have the 2 middle pins common.
07:05 Cprossu this isn't an issue with the big 4 pin molex
07:05 Cprossu but on a floppy connector, it's really easy to move it over 1 pin.
07:05 Cprossu if you short out 12 it usually doesn't do any damage, but if you short out 5.....
07:05 Cprossu the power supply generally doesn't shut down.
07:06 Cprossu and you know about how evil the 5volt rail is on a computer psu right pegasus?
07:06 wannabe1987 i dont' know what to do....
07:06 pegasus depends on the PSU
07:06 Cprossu a 250watt AT power supply just for starters
07:07 pegasus a crappy old AT like you're talking about above, i imagine it'd be a problem either way
07:07 pegasus wanna: what's the problem
07:07 Cprossu it's a problem with any power supply
07:07 Cprossu http://s3.amazonaws.com/kpsurplus_images/d077d8412503528de9b380ae83a2d8631a0afda9.jpg
07:07 Cprossu ^ a standard 250watt ATX for an example
07:07 Cprossu see the issue about the 5v rail?
07:08 pegasus i know a few of them, at least, have isolated rails for each wire and crazy switched everything
07:08 pegasus you wire anything wrong and that wire just shuts off
07:08 Cprossu think about this carefully.
07:08 pegasus nice, 26A on the 5v rail
07:08 Cprossu how much current do you have to draw for it to be considered an issue.
07:09 Cprossu for overcurrent protection
07:09 pegasus i'd think ~27A
07:09 Cprossu basically yes
07:09 Cprossu now think of that small ass floppy wire
07:09 Cprossu the wire ends up being the limiting factor.
07:09 pegasus yep
07:09 pegasus could well be what she did, i didn't do a whole lot of forensics on the charred remains
07:10 CaptainNiobe|AFK i are back... lol... finally...
07:10 Cprossu no way in hell you're getting 135watts out of that tiny ass wire and connector
07:10 Cprossu *or rather through it*
07:11 pegasus a decent PSU, though, would go ahead and put a reset-on-power-up breaker on each 5v line, though. should be able to make a solid-state one relatively tiny.
07:11 Cprossu that adds cost.
07:11 pegasus i did say decent
07:11 pegasus your cheap PSU deserves the bin anyway :D
07:11 Cprossu remember they use shared voltage regulation on 90% of the psu's you saw
07:11 wannabe1987 hi CaptainNiobe
07:11 Cprossu even good power supplies still use group voltage regulation
07:11 pegasus back in the 90s, i'd say 100%
07:11 CaptainNiobe hey wannabe1987 :)
07:12 pegasus nowadays maybe 80%
07:12 * CaptainNiobe curses hsbne's rollerdoor
07:12 Cprossu but still the point is that there are supplies that do have it and their overcurrent protection can sometimes trip due to a motherboard's requirements.
07:13 Cprossu so burning into a pile of char vs. working is a thin line
07:13 Cprossu but yeah
07:13 Cprossu BANG!
07:13 pegasus http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/product.php?id=MTc2MA== -- ftw.
07:14 Cprossu antec screwed me hardcore.
07:14 CaptainNiobe Cprossu, i wish that would happen to our door controller so we could get a new one lol
07:14 pegasus what'd they do to you?
07:14 Cprossu Antec Truepower.
07:14 Cprossu and Smartpower
07:14 pegasus what'd they do to you?
07:14 Cprossu I had 15 of their PSU's die and they refused to replace any
07:15 pegasus ooh, ouch
07:15 Cprossu nor would they admit
07:15 Cprossu that they had a design defect
07:15 Cprossu (fuhjyyu capacitors)
07:15 Cprossu so if I use an antec it's one I paid all of $5 for
07:15 pegasus in that case may i recommend http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?C=1245&amp;ID=2061
07:16 Cprossu I'll never intentionally buy an Antec PSU ever again
07:16 Cprossu Antec cases though
07:16 Cprossu I love.
07:16 Cprossu but I will never ever ever
07:16 Cprossu buy another one of their power supplies.
07:16 wannabe1987 :sigh:
07:16 pegasus wanna: what's your quandary
07:17 wannabe1987 boy.
07:17 wannabe1987 x-bf issues
07:17 pegasus what's the issue, he's an ex, issues complete
07:17 wannabe1987 he's mkaing me move out, thankfully a friend had told me 15 min before to put gas in my car and come live with her
07:17 wannabe1987 pegasus we live together?
07:17 pegasus well there you go then
07:18 pegasus living with ex = issue, moving out = solution
07:18 wannabe1987 i have too much "stuff" and can't take it all in one trip.  THERES my issue...whats he gonna do with my shit when i'm not here?
07:18 Cprossu http://filedb.experts-exchange.com/incoming/2010/01_w02/219232/ANTEC-True-380.JPG
07:19 * pegasus refrains from multiple obvious comments
07:19 wannabe1987 my friend has a 1 bedroom apt....i'm taking the couch
07:19 wannabe1987 he says he won't chuck it....
07:19 pegasus take what matters most, leave the rest behind.
07:19 CaptainNiobe wannabe, can you leave it at your parents' for the timebeing?
07:19 wannabe1987 food, clothing, electronics matter most....i have a 4 door car, thankfully
07:19 wannabe1987 my parents house is about the same distance as my friends house
07:19 Cprossu if I pay $130 for a power supply I expect it to come with good tech support if anything goes wrong
07:20 pegasus you can buy more food, you'd only eat it anyway
07:20 Cprossu enermax has never given me a bad psu so I couldn't say about them, and corsair's been good to me when I've had a problem.
07:20 Cprossu I am really liking how those XFX psu's look though
07:20 pegasus clothes don't matter that much either, as long as you have access to laundry and a week's worth
07:20 wannabe1987 pegasus i don't have more food money for this month....i only have 10 bucks right now, 5 on my card....
07:20 Cprossu well the appearance not so much, the insides yes.
07:21 wannabe1987 but i have a job interview coming up i need to wear good nice clothing for
07:21 pegasus then take a nice outfit too
07:21 Experimentonomen joined #thegeekgroup
07:22 wannabe1987 i don't feel like sleeping...i feel like packing....
07:22 wannabe1987 i should clean out my trunk too, to fit more stuff in it
07:22 pegasus and if by "this month" you mean september, you're kind of fucked in the food department regardless
07:22 wannabe1987 till the 19th
07:22 wannabe1987 but trust me when i say i have LOTS of food
07:22 wannabe1987 like 2 18gallon rubbermaid totes full
07:22 wannabe1987 o.O
07:23 wannabe1987 maybe more....
07:23 pegasus the last time i had housing issues that severe, ramen cost $0.10/each
07:23 wannabe1987 ewww ramen
07:24 wannabe1987 i'm a cook.  i like to eat nicly
07:24 wannabe1987 nicely
07:24 pegasus 17 days worth would cost $3.40
07:24 wannabe1987 http://phoodinyoface.blogspot.com/2011/08/breakfast-hash.html  like this and other things on my website
07:24 pegasus that's fine for when you have the money
07:24 pegasus you have to prioritize to save the things that matter at the moment
07:25 pegasus think long-term and forego the nice things in the short term for the important things long-term
07:25 Cprossu oh so some asshole was trying to seel one of my customers a solar system for his house
07:25 Cprossu and stated that he needed an inverter 'that could stand up to 185 celcius'
07:25 pegasus 356F
07:25 Cprossu yeah. heh
07:25 wannabe1987 i have pork tenderloin in the freezer, 3 lbs of beef, fish, two types of fish, actually, cheese, ice cream and other quickly melting things that i'll leave here....bread, bananas, hot dogs (leave hear), OJ (leave), pork sausage (one to leave, cuz its HOT), and so on and so forth.  o and kebabs i'm taking with me....
07:26 wannabe1987 and thats just the freezer
07:26 pegasus well, copper doesn't melt until 1084C
07:26 Cprossu he was also trying to sell him a "KVAR energy saver"
07:27 Cprossu and 'silver shielding'?
07:27 Cprossu and 'duct sealing'
07:27 pegasus aluminum at 660C, but burns colder than that
07:27 Cprossu so I called him on being a snake oil salesman
07:27 CaptainNiobe wannabe, pegasus is right, prioritise your feed... whatever you've got, taking or leaving, if you run  out, regardless of what you like, you then eat to survive, even things you don't like...
07:27 pegasus some things matter, some things don't
07:27 Cprossu surviving on ramen isn't really...surviving though hehhehe
07:28 pegasus ramen & vitamins & walking everywhere i went (which was often) = i gained weight
07:28 pegasus you can survive just fine.
07:28 CaptainNiobe ramen is food, doesn't matter if it isn't nutritious, in teh short term it's about not starving
07:28 Cprossu the vitamins woulda helped
07:29 wannabe1987 i don't need to gain weight...
07:29 wannabe1987 trust me guys, food is the least of my worries now
07:29 pegasus ramen = calories and staving off the hunger pains, honestly
07:29 pegasus for nutrition i had a generic multivitamin from wal*mart
07:30 pegasus as close to 100% USRDA of everything as i could get
07:30 wannabe1987 my mom gave me my vitamins back
07:30 wannabe1987 and i couldn't buy some if i had to anyway....they're not covered on food stamps...
07:30 pegasus and then water and lots and lots of walking
07:30 pegasus and it was the exercise that actually caused me to gain weight, i put on a lot of muscle
07:31 CaptainNiobe ahh... pegasus... that's isn't putting on weight, that's toning up :P
07:31 wannabe1987 lol
07:31 pegasus i had more grams. :b
07:31 CaptainNiobe still not considered "gaining weight" lol
07:32 pegasus ask cprossu about weight. we had a lovely discussion about it earlier. brb.
07:32 CaptainNiobe lol
07:32 CaptainNiobe dare i, Cprossu? :P
07:33 Cprossu haha
07:33 Cprossu we were more discussing mass vs weight
07:33 CaptainNiobe ahh
07:33 Cprossu and why wolfram was giving a result that wasn't useful
07:34 CaptainNiobe ? wolfram?
07:34 Cprossu .wa 50g weight on mars
07:34 Cprossu wolfram alpha
07:34 BotSteve Mars->weight;0.0417 lbf  (pounds-force);185 mN  (millinewtons);0.185 N  (newtons);18500 dynes,  (unit officially deprecated);18.9 ponds;0.0189 kp  (kiloponds);Mass m of a body from w = mg:, ->0.0013 slugs, ->19 grams
07:34 CaptainNiobe ahh, the botsteve thing
07:34 Cprossu no it's more than a botsteve thing
07:34 Cprossu http://www.wolframalpha.com/
07:36 Cprossu so yes it would take a 19g weight's weight on mars to be equivalent to a 50g weight's weight
07:36 Cprossu but that's not really what was asked.
07:36 CaptainNiobe i'll check it out another time, i'm still cursing at this rollerdoor failing to open yet again...
07:36 Cprossu or was that the other way around
07:37 Cprossu either way a 50g mass on mars is 50g on earth
07:39 CaptainNiobe weight is subjective to gravitational fields, earth gravity is know as 1... mars, i believe, has a lesser gravitational influence, so the lesser weight simply applies to that, BASED ON earth's "1" gravity... if it were based on mars' gravity, the results here would be heavier... that's all... it's perception and the recognised measurement (which is earth's gravity)
07:39 Cprossu the issue is the fact it's in grams.
07:40 Cprossu nothing more.
07:40 CaptainNiobe ?
07:40 Cprossu 19grams is not a weight
07:40 Cprossu as in it does not factor in the force of gravity
07:41 Cprossu that's one thing that differentiates lbs from grams
07:41 * wannabe1987 is happy to be moving out....i cause drama, did you know that?
07:42 CaptainNiobe i don't see how it's any different... else it would be the same with pounds and kilograms...
07:43 Cprossu ok F=M*A right.
07:43 Cprossu for the most part
07:43 Cprossu until you get 3/4 the speed of light at least
07:44 pegasus weight = mass * acceleration of gravity
07:44 Cprossu yes.
07:44 * CaptainNiobe just got lost
07:44 Cprossu 9.8 M/s^2 is the acceleration due to gravity follow
07:44 pegasus mars gravity = 12.2 ft/s^2, earth = 32.2 ft/s^2
07:44 Cprossu weight in lbs however.
07:44 Cprossu includes this.
07:45 Cprossu anything measured in grams is a 'mass'
07:45 Cprossu as opposed to a weight.
07:45 pegasus if you prefer metric, mars gravity = 3.71 m/s^2
07:45 Cprossu the point is if I asked it in lbs it would be correct.
07:45 pegasus but for equivalence, mars(19g) == earth(50g)
07:46 Cprossu but it's not.
07:46 pegasus where mars() and earth() return weight
07:46 Cprossu the weight is
07:46 Cprossu equivalient
07:46 Cprossu the mass is not
07:47 Cprossu .wa .11lb weight on mars
07:47 pegasus Niobe: weight is a measure of the force required to keep an object at a certain height away from the center of mass of a body of gravitational influence
07:47 BotSteve Mars->weight;0.04161 lbf  (pounds-force);185.1 mN  (millinewtons);0.1851 N  (newtons);18511 dynes,  (unit officially deprecated);18.88 ponds;0.01888 kp  (kiloponds);Mass m of a body from w = mg:, ->0.0013 slugs, ->19 grams
07:47 pegasus it's a term of acceleration between two bodies of given masses
07:48 Cprossu ^ the problem is that it thinks I am asking ^this question
07:48 pegasus weight varies depending on both objects, mass does not
07:48 CaptainNiobe so simplify it for me (not my area lol)... similier to net weight of a box of cereal, riight? the weight, in grams, signifies the amount of content in the box instead of actual weight, so the box might weigh the same, but the amount of contents varies... right? (probs over simplifying things, but that makes sense to me lol)
07:48 Cprossu or rather the forces which act upon each object pegasus
07:49 Cprossu yes CaptainNiobe
07:49 pegasus cprossu is of the opinion that wolfram alpha is just plain wrong rather than oversimplified for the easy consumption of data by the luddite masses
07:49 Cprossu so if I had 2 boxes of cereal with the 'same mass'
07:49 Cprossu the one on mars would 'weigh less'
07:50 pegasus i'm of the opinion that people are stupid, and wolfram alpha is just answering the question that most people would mean, rather than the technical question answered (which it actually does answer in the same results)
07:50 Cprossu but would contain the exact same mass.
07:50 * CaptainNiobe feels decidedly dumb at the moment
07:51 pegasus the question that i'm annoyed it can't answer is http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=relative+mass+of+a+50g+object+at+1%2F2+c
07:52 pegasus it understands 1/2 c just fine, but not the concept of relative mass, apparently
07:53 Cprossu if you were to eat the same exact size cereal package on either planet you'd get the same amount of calories out of it, it's mass would be the same, but it would weigh less on mars. it doesn't lose any of it's 'content' just by being acted on by differing forces. make sense CaptainNiobe?
07:54 pegasus so cprossu, are you familiar with the juno space probe?
07:55 Cprossu nope
07:55 pegasus the juno space probe is a craft launched last month, i think, on a 5 year cruise to jupiter
07:55 CaptainNiobe yeah, but that kinda *does* come back to weight and perception of weight... what i said earlier, it ONLY weighs less on mars because of human perception that earth's gravity is equal to 1, and marss gravity is less... doesn't it? i already knew mass didn't decrease because of various gravitational influences...
07:55 Cprossu I stopped following things about 4 years ago space program wise
07:55 Cprossu no, it actually does weigh less.
07:56 pegasus next year sometime it's going to come around in its solar orbit to grab a slingshot speed boost from earth to fling it out on its final approach to jupiter
07:56 Cprossu CaptainNiobe force of gravity is a 'real' force
07:56 pegasus the thing that gets me is, we keep doing this
07:56 Cprossu but it's exceptionally weak.
07:57 pegasus every time we give a little bit of our momentum to a probe to get it out of its orbit like this, we lose a little bit of our momentum
07:57 Cprossu it's such a weak force that the entire freaking planet's mass doesn't keep you from jumping off of it CaptainNiobe
07:57 pegasus given the differences in masses, it's very small, but the thing is, eventually, if we keep doing it, we'll lose enough to alter our orbit to the point that we'll start noticing
07:58 Cprossu pegasus eathquakes fuck up more than that
07:58 pegasus earthquakes fuck up our rotation, not our orbit
07:58 Cprossu the more dense a region is the more it screws up our orbit too
07:58 Cprossu remember we are on a tilted axis
07:58 Cprossu the tilted axis is why we can survive on this planet.
07:58 CaptainNiobe i know, but what matters is perception of a recognised measurement... i think mars' gravity is like.38 of earth's gravity (not sure), but the point is, it's .38 of EARTH'S gravity... it's perception... we perceive it as less because of earth's measurement of 1 gravity being the standard... or that's how i see it...
07:59 Cprossu I ignore that '1' standard myself
07:59 Cprossu because it's all relative anyway
07:59 pegasus 1G = 32.2f/s/s
07:59 pegasus accelerating upward at 32f/s/s = 2G
08:00 pegasus iirc astronauts get 4G at launch
08:00 pegasus might be more
08:00 CaptainNiobe maybe that's how we coulda crossed wires, i use 1 as the recognised measurement... lol...
08:00 Cprossu technically we can just say 9.8 m/s^2
08:01 pegasus m/s/s = m/s^2
08:01 Cprossu yep
08:01 pegasus according to this site it's 1.7g
08:01 Cprossu just m/s * 1/s = m/2^2
08:02 * CaptainNiobe is lost yet again
08:02 pegasus ah
08:02 CaptainNiobe lol
08:02 pegasus 3g at final burn
08:03 pegasus Niobe: just algebra. x/y/y = x/y^2
08:03 pegasus exponentiation of the denominator is the same as multiple divisions
08:03 Cprossu so much easier to produce g's with a rocket sled and a big ass concrete wall.
08:03 CaptainNiobe lol... i never completed year nine, so never did any of that
08:03 Cprossu if you catch my drift.
08:04 CaptainNiobe i think top gear did the rocket and concrete wall lol
08:04 Cprossu vectors are fun.
08:05 pegasus https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/John_Paul_Stapp#Works_on_effects_of_deceleration
08:05 Cprossu wait.
08:05 Cprossu deceleration?!
08:05 Cprossu XD

08:06 pegasus 46.2G, walked away
08:06 Cprossu kinda of amazing too
08:06 Cprossu there was also a guy on a different nasa testing note
08:06 Cprossu who survived being in a vacuum after his pressurized suit failed and decompressed
08:06 pegasus "walked away" after rehab and all that.
08:07 Cprossu and by walked away I mean after he gained conciousness again
08:08 pegasus "At NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center (now renamed Johnson Space Center) we had a test subject accidentally exposed to a near vacuum (less than 1 psi) in an incident involving a leaking space suit in a vacuum chamber back in '65. He remained conscious for about 14 seconds, which is about the time it takes for O2 deprived blood to go from the lungs to the brain. The suit probably did not reach a hard vacuum,
08:08 pegasus "... consciousness at around 15,000 feet equivalent altitude. The subject later reported that he could feel and hear the air leaking out, and his last conscious memory was of the water on his tongue beginning to boil."
08:08 pegasus http://imagine.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/ask_astro/answers/970603.html
08:08 Cprossu ok close enough anyway
08:08 Cprossu didn't sound like fun
08:09 pegasus water on the tongue boiling = more than close enough
08:11 wannabe1987 i still get to make a version of http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fphoodinyoface.blogspot.com%2F2011%2F08%2Fbreakfast-hash.html&amp;h=EAQBc0fqTAQDXnsQVxTy73RQYI3VeOH65HHxWUPeLErkDRQ for dinner tho.... nothing in there is what my friend is deathly allergic to :)
08:13 pegasus oh wow
08:13 pegasus after being exposed to vacuum you go temporarily blind
08:13 pegasus as long as your heart keeps ticking, you'll survive
08:17 pegasus "An explosive or rapid decompression will cut this time in half due to the startle factor and the accelerated rate at which an adrenaline-soaked body burns oxygen."
08:25 wannabe1987 i just got drew up cuz max poo'd on the floor in teh bedroom EWWWWW it smells bad
08:25 wannabe1987 and i should go to bed......
08:26 pegasus nice, one of the fatal things about exposure to vacuum is that the gas in the intestines expands possibly to the point of putting enough pressure on the vagus nerve that you get a heart attack
08:28 pegasus so when exposed to vacuum, 1) breathe out, 2) let the farts go.

15:20 pegasus single segment memory model?
15:21 MadManMarkAu .g single segment memory model
15:21 BotSteve MadManMarkAu: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Memory_Model
15:22 MadManMarkAu Ah, no
15:22 MadManMarkAu It's... berkley?
15:22 MadManMarkAu Data+stack in RAM, program in ROM, same address space
15:22 pegasus single segment = old CP/M and DOS (for .COM programs) memory model where the stack and the code and any overlay were in the same segment
15:22 MadManMarkAu Ah, yeah
15:22 MadManMarkAu I understand .com
15:23 MadManMarkAu ".tiny" directive :P
15:23 pegasus you could still access the MS-DOS equivalent of malloc and grab another segment for your stack pointer, though
15:23 pegasus which is what you'll have to do on the arduino if that's the problem you're having
15:23 MadManMarkAu There was an interrupt routine for that, iirc
15:23 pegasus yes
15:24 MadManMarkAu THe arduino only has 2K of ram
15:24 MadManMarkAu The heap starts at $0000
15:24 MadManMarkAu The stack grows downwards, and starts at $1FFF
15:24 pegasus i wrote a bit of code a few years ago out of boredom that displayed a bitmap image at 320x240 and the stack chewed up the end of the bitmap overlay
15:24 MadManMarkAu 2K? Hang on
15:25 MadManMarkAu Bleh, can't remember how much RAM
15:25 pegasus pissed me off, i had to come up with some clever tomfoolery to get around that
15:25 pegasus probably 2MB, 2k is really tiny
15:25 MadManMarkAu Huh, wow
15:25 MadManMarkAu Oh, no, NOWHERE near 2Mb
15:25 MadManMarkAu It's a 64K address space
15:25 MadManMarkAu But only something like 8K installed
15:26 pegasus hm.
15:27 pegasus well if you've only got the single segment to work with, malloc() isn't going to help you.
15:27 pegasus you're going to have to squeeze the system to make it fit
15:28 pegasus use the stack less, make the code/overlay smaller
15:30 MadManMarkAu Hrm
15:30 MadManMarkAu Dammit
15:30 MadManMarkAu I want to add external RAM to I han put the heap on external and let the internal SRAM be the stack
15:30 MadManMarkAu But nooo, the Arduino wasn't built withthat in mind :<
15:30 pegasus if you're actually calling functions or ISRs (assuming the arduino has such things), don't. inline everything, push nothing, accept data destruction, figure out how to work around it
15:31 pegasus use every register, even if you use it wrong
15:31 MadManMarkAu Hrm, ok, I'll make do

17:05 Seroster Yeah, he's a true genious, tonsofpcs
17:05 Seroster How old are you, 14?
17:05 Seroster You are half his age and at least twice the electrical knowledge.
17:05 mashpriborintorg if there's still power, you found infinite energy source :D
17:06 SparkyProjects Romex looks the same as our 'twin and earth', all i do is use cutters down the end to expose the end of the earth, then grab the earth and use as a ripcord to open the sheath.
17:06 SparkyProjects http://www.tradingdepot.co.uk/external/commerce/1/gfx/hires/6242YH100100.jpg
17:06 mashpriborintorg or just be wrong breaker
17:06 Seroster Yes indeed, SparkyProjects.
17:06 Seroster But I use the neutral
17:06 Seroster If I kill a part of the cable I want the ground to be the undamaged one
17:07 Seroster Ah, THAT kind.
17:07 mashpriborintorg this particular cable design is unusual here
17:07 tonsofpcs SparkyProjects: eh, you can do it with cable cutters with a bit of skill.  (Romex is all solid core)
17:07 Seroster It's illegal here. =P
17:07 tonsofpcs Seroster: what is?
17:07 mashpriborintorg never seen it IRL actually
17:08 SparkyProjects I actually use the cutters to grab the earth, so once i get the length i need exposed, i cut off the damaged bit
17:08 SparkyProjects http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNaCgwFcFA8&amp;NR=1
17:08 tonsofpcs I don't know anyone who is a fan of romex...
17:09 Seroster I have no problem with romex
17:09 SparkyProjects He says power runs to ground quicker than through the neutral ?
17:09 tonsofpcs Seroster: would you rather run romex or 3 runs of individual stranded?
17:09 SparkyProjects But trough the ground it has to travel to the nearest transformer :P
17:10 Seroster Yep

17:17 Hackbat yes
17:17 tonsofpcs wait, electricity runs to earth?
17:17 Hackbat but you can adjust the volume in the settings
17:17 tonsofpcs always?
17:17 tonsofpcs I thought the point of alternating current was..... (wait for it)... alternating current.
17:17 Seroster DUN DUN DUUUUN!
17:18 tonsofpcs also, in most common DC systems, earth is on the negative (or SOURCE) side....
17:19 Seroster =)
17:20 SparkyProjects Electricity won't run to earth in an isolated system, that is the distribution transformer output connections are NOT grounded.
17:20 SparkyProjects And yes they do exist for special installations
17:20 Hackbat I wish I had this when I was activating windows
17:20 Hackbat 20 minutes of nayan cat
17:21 tonsofpcs SparkyProjects: I found a nice 1kA isolator in a box when we were cleaning some racks here.  Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet.
17:22 tonsofpcs about 6" square core (from what I can see through the vented case -- I have no reason to open it)
17:22 SparkyProjects Is that an isolator switch or isolation transformer ?
17:23 tonsofpcs transformer
17:23 SparkyProjects What are input and output, i'm guessing same voltages
17:23 tonsofpcs NEMA 5-15P on a cord wired inside, rated 120v in 120v out, switch and fuse on the front panel, duplex NEMA 5-15R on the rear.
17:24 tonsofpcs copper filaments?
17:24 tonsofpcs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gIBFJZFMn0
17:24 SparkyProjects Could be handy for just the same as i posted above, but 1KA ?
17:24 SparkyProjects That would probably trip a household breaker with no load on it
17:25 tonsofpcs I think it's 1kA... might have been 1kW.... I'm not sure where we hid it, otherwise I'd go look
17:25 tonsofpcs probably 1kW
17:25 * tonsofpcs is tired
17:26 tonsofpcs I have much larger isolation transformers elsewhere, permanent installed.
17:27 SparkyProjects If you can pick it up, it's likely to be 1Kw
17:27 SparkyProjects They use that size on building sites, and the secondary is grounded as a center tap to give 55-0-55
17:28 tonsofpcs err, why would you do that?
17:28 tonsofpcs oh, nm, I see what you mean
17:28 injektion Hackbat, I've been seeing NaN:NaN on youtube a lot lately
17:29 tonsofpcs injektion: that's a good timestamp

17:33 tonsofpcs at least he didn't try killing himself on that one
17:33 SparkyProjects Why does he look so afraid to touch the wires if he KNOWS the power is off ?
17:33 SparkyProjects Hoow does he know the tester works ?
17:33 SparkyProjects And i would have tested again once the EARTHED plate was removed :D

17:36 tonsofpcs SparkyProjects: I know this, you know this....
17:38 SparkyProjects In the electrical industry you are supposed to prove that your test equipment works before testing for dead.
17:38 SparkyProjects Even better if you hold the tester on the wire and see it die when your mate turns the power off
17:39 tonsofpcs SparkyProjects: and then test it on something live to prove that your batteries/wiring didn't just die at an inopportune time
17:39 tonsofpcs all of our fusible disconnects have testpoints on both sides (behind the cover, of course) for a reason...
17:40 SparkyProjects We usually turn it on and off a few times, your mate should let you know what he is doing, so he would be shouting 'On - Off - On - Off'
17:41 tonsofpcs we usually shut it off but assume it is hot anyway and work as if it is hot...
17:41 SparkyProjects And if there is any possibility that someone could turn it on, we also lock it off
17:41 tonsofpcs I need a good breaker LO/TO kit.
17:41 mashpriborintorg OMG i didn't see the number of videos EV posted
17:41 tonsofpcs yea, there's a series of 14 with oscar...
17:42 SparkyProjects heh, i've worked on hot stuff many times, and we use 240, not the relatively safe 120

17:52 SparkyProjects I always remember sometthing that happened a few years ago, we were doing modifications to part of the control system in a grain handling building, we had to run some new wires to the new motor, this can normally be safely done while the circuits are live, we removed the cover on a length of 4x4 steel trunking packed full of wires, the cover has not been removed for many years, i immediately said we had to isola
17:52 SparkyProjects That's why i shudder when amateurs do some of the tasks shown in the EV vids

19:00 mashpriborintorg If I keep everything, I'll need a hangar
19:00 tonsofpcs sure, a VO9800 would be nicer, but the 9600s were a very nice line.  We have BVW- series Umatic decks here, I hate them.

19:01 tonsofpcs maybe you can even teach them how to do it.... when I offered my help, when I had access to a number of different NTSC UMatic and UMatic SP decks (which I know how to use and how to tweak), they shot me down...
19:02 mashpriborintorg Found them in a thrift store, I wanted to take one apart since a long time
19:03 tonsofpcs the 9800? it's like 6 screws to take apart, carriage slips right out, there's a plunger mechanism for 'emergency' eject though so it's very rare to need to take one apart
19:04 tonsofpcs (well, once inside, iirc it's 5 to take the cover off)
19:04 tonsofpcs err, 9600 ^
19:04 tonsofpcs the UVW-1x00 is a different story.  Still doable, not as simple.
19:04 tonsofpcs the front panel catches the tape carriage on removal, it's a pita to clear the heads, etc... (although if you're not wanting to put it back together, i guess it's not as much of an issue)

20:20 injektion vThis is what I do when I leave: 1) set GPS if needed 2)open garage door 3) get in car 4) start engine 5) wait for oil pressure light to go out 6) put in reverse 7) leave driveway
20:21 angy hi Toast, hi everyone
20:21 angy how're ya Toast?
20:22 injektion 8) Before I start any kind of high RPM driving (over 3k RPMs) I wait 10 minutes after the temp gauge gets to the 10 o'clock position
20:22 Toastdude Good, about to see my father at 4:00
20:22 Toastdude You?
20:22 angy exhausted, but good
20:22 astro73|derrial injektion: i think your car is a bit touchy
20:23 injektion Why do you say that?
20:24 angy I've to say I got 2 step when I leave: Start the car, smash the accelerator down to the floor and try not to crash (ok, that's three)
20:25 injektion I never warm it up on cold days because the ECU will continue to run rich until the thermostat opens at 180C and letting it sit allows for more carbon buildup
20:26 injektion errr
20:26 injektion 180F
20:26 injektion All fuel injected engines operate that way during a cold start
20:27 * injektion bought the bosch fuel injection manual
20:28 astro73|derrial 1. turn on the car. 2. shift into reverse 3. back out of driveway 4. shift into drive 5. drive into the sunset
20:28 angy my car have weber carburetor, I don't care about injection ;)
20:29 injektion I'd rather have fuel injection I fucking hate carbs
20:30 angy I like them, there are funny little things
20:31 injektion My dad once had a truck with carbs he never could get it to pass an emission test
20:32 angy you usually have to tweak carbs to pass theses tests
20:33 injektion He tried several times
20:33 injektion He spent a year toying around with it
20:35 injektion Then he got rid of it
20:36 injektion It was the 5th generation mazda b series pickup truck before the ones sold in the us were badge engineered ford rangers

22:03 BotSteve Welcome back, boss.
22:04 CSMonster batsteve
22:04 BatSteve csm
22:04 CSMonster what's up?
22:04 BatSteve I need a UPS
22:04 BatSteve I lost 32 days of uptime because of a 7 second power interruption
22:04 tlockley how big
22:04 CSMonster ouch.
22:05 tlockley yah bummer on the uptime loss
22:05 BatSteve Luckily, uptime is a meaningless statistic, used only for e-peen measuring.
22:05 BatSteve (:
22:05 tlockley tehe
22:05 BatSteve and tlockley, I'm thinking the smallest one I can find
22:05 twirlywhirly555 joined #thegeekgroup
22:05 BatSteve all I need is for it to smooth the momentary interruptions
22:06 BatSteve Anything over...say...4 minutes and I accept that it's going down
22:06 tlockley ok, how many machines and what is the wattage on the PSU?
22:07 BatSteve One machine.  I think it's a 700W power supply...i think.  Might be 1k.  I forget.
22:07 tlockley if its one general purpose whitebox then a 450VA or 350VA APC will do the trick
22:07 BatSteve Awesome, thank you!  (What's an APC?)
22:07 tlockley ok then like a 450VA should be fine.
22:07 BatSteve .w apc
22:08 BotSteve "Adenomatous polyposis coli, a type of colon cancer caused by a defect APC-protein due to mutations in the APC-gene." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apc
22:08 tlockley APC is a company
22:08 BatSteve in before armored personnel carrier
22:08 BatSteve poop
22:08 BatSteve 450 VA APC
22:08 BatSteve Got it.

22:08 tlockley oops
22:08 tlockley http://www.amazon.com/APC-BE450G-Back-UPS-8-Outlet-Uninterrupted/dp/B001BTWQDS
22:09 tlockley 56 dollars
22:10 tlockley I run my intel xserve with a 350VA but at times the UPS fucks up so i recomend the 450
22:10 BatSteve Okay, cool.
22:11 BatSteve question
22:11 tlockley shoot
22:11 BatSteve Why is this one cheaper, and yet has a higher VA rating?  I assume VA is volt*amp (over time)?  http://www.amazon.com/APC-Back-UPS-Outlet-550VA-120V/dp/B0019804U8/
22:12 BatSteve Maybe it's just a power smoother?
22:12 tlockley no its a UPS. power smoothers arent rated in VA
22:13 tlockley that is strange. go for the cheaper one
22:13 tlockley in reallity they are all built the smae
22:13 tlockley the difference is minor charger and battery changes
22:13 tlockley *same
22:13 BatSteve Oh, okay.
22:13 BatSteve (I know nothing about this topic, forgive any stupid questions)
22:14 tlockley NP, i know enough to be dangerous on this one
22:14 BatSteve (:
22:14 CSMonster FOUNDIT
22:14 CSMonster IFOUNDITIFOUNDITIFOUNDIT and holy shit that's kind of genius.
22:14 BatSteve Another question - how much waste heat does yours put out, tlockley?
22:14 tlockley not enough to be noticeable
22:15 BatSteve also, CSMonster, what did you find?  (I bet it's Dr. Livingston)
22:15 CSMonster i found the mechanical details on this rifle: http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/6550/1187672633539vc6.jpg
22:15 CSMonster directly from the maker.
22:15 BatSteve tlockley: fantastic.  you are my winner of the day.
22:15 BatSteve (:
22:15 tlockley sweet
22:15 Ponko BATSTEVE
22:16 BatSteve PONKO
22:16 * Ponko throws bullet of a pass towards BatSteve route.....
22:16 BatSteve CSMonster: how long is the barrel on that crazy rifle thingy?
22:16 BatSteve (points if you say "just long enough")
22:16 CSMonster 10"
22:17 CSMonster also that.
22:17 tlockley that thing is crasy
22:17 tlockley its a revolver with a stock and a rifle barrel
22:17 tlockley but why?
22:17 CSMonster it's quite a bit more than that.
22:17 CSMonster it's one of the quietest firearms ever made.
22:17 * Ponko sees ball go incomplete
22:18 tlockley what is it?
22:18 CSMonster you can't normally sound-suppress a revolver because of the gap between the barrel and the cylinder
22:18 tlockley huh
22:18 BatSteve incomplete!
22:19 * BatSteve jogs back to the line for the third down
22:19 CSMonster what they did is put a .30 bullet in the middle of an aluminum piston loaded into a .44 magnum casing, and put a .30 barrel on a revolver chambered for .44 magnum
22:20 tlockley who makes it?
22:20 Seroster http://www.wimp.com/worthwatching/
22:20 Seroster DAMN hes good
22:20 BatSteve hey seroster!
22:20 Seroster Both at his job AND philosophy
22:20 * Ponko urges fans on with a wave see's 10 secs left on the game clock down by a field goal inside the redzone
22:21 Seroster He's like the definition of karisma
22:21 CSMonster the aluminum piston moves forward with the bullet and closes the cylinder gap; sealed to the case with an o-ring and sealed to the barrel with a plastic washer, while the bullet then leaves the piston and goes down the barrel normally.  no need to completely contain the propellant gas inside the cartridge casing, and no need for a forward-moving cylinder like on the Nagant M1895
22:21 Seroster Hello battie
22:21 CSMonster and it was made by Knight's Armament Company.
22:21 * Ponko takes the snap and passes to batsteve and see's it batted down
22:21 CSMonster no need for proprietary brass either.
22:21 CSMonster man that is a thing of beauty.
22:22 * BatSteve kicks dirt on the umpire's shoes
22:22 tlockley i need to find a video of someone firing that thing
22:22 BatSteve (:
22:22 Ponko hey don't get penalised BatSteve
22:22 BatSteve Couldn't help it, I'm a loose cannon who doesn't play by the man's rules.
22:23 BatSteve But you're right, the game is hanging on this down
22:23 CSMonster "It was a fielded rifle.  Purpose was the same as most military weapons."
22:23 tlockley wow
22:23 Ponko well we've got 6 secs left in the super bowl and we're down by 4 and we need to score a td or else
22:24 BatSteve Purpose of most military weapons:  expend ammo in the nearest cardinal compass direction of the enemy?
22:24 CSMonster and now i want to build one.
22:24 CSMonster yes.
22:24 CSMonster or just "kill people and blow shit up"
22:24 * Ponko goes back in the huddle choses the call and gets under centre
22:24 BatSteve That usually requires aimed fire though.
22:25 * Ponko takes the snap and looks for Batsteve fires towards the endzone........
22:25 BatSteve I was thinking of the "3000 rounds per enemy killed" statistic from the 70s era.
22:25 CSMonster heh, that still holds true, more or less, for small arms fire.
22:25 * BatSteve cuts, looks back, looks back again, aaaaaand.....
22:25 BatSteve pulls it out of the air in the end zone!
22:25 tlockley bbl
22:26 * Ponko raises hands in celebration jumping for joy
22:26 Ponko TOUCHDOWN GREEN BAY PACKERS
22:26 BatSteve its pandemonium here!
22:27 BatSteve the field is flooding with spectators!
22:27 BatSteve Nobody bothers to kick the extra point!

23:15 BatSteve Holding the helicopter rotor to the rotor mast is a very special nut called the Jesus nut. It screws on to the top of the mast. The Jesus nut has a particular shape and strength that insure it remains tight. If the Jesus nut loosens the rotor comes off and the pilot calls out the nut’s name as the helicopter falls like a brick.
23:18 Kate_Monster See I always thought it was called the fuck nut.
23:20 BatSteve This comes from a letter from a helicopter firefighter to his daughter, so it probably is, and he just sanitized it.
