yeah i think it said on the schedule 7:30 CT and 8:30 EST |
| 00:14 |

| 00:15 |
|
tlockley |
ok, tht makes semse |
| 00:15 |
|

Cprossu: server beating stick? |
| 00:16 |
|

I crashed my iPad! |
| 00:20 |
|
tlockley |
not that hard really |
| 00:20 |
|
tlockley |
those things dont have enough ram |
| 00:20 |
|
angy |
in fact, that crash is kind of funny |
| 00:20 |
|
angy |
push the sleep button, crash |
| 00:20 |
|
tlockley |
derp :P |
| 00:22 |
|
Cprossu |
speaking of too much ram |
| 00:23 |
|
angy |
I'll have to reproduce it just for the fun of it |
| 00:23 |
|
Cprossu |
I heard cory shitting bricks saying one of those xserves had 7gb of ram tlockley? |
| 00:23 |
|
tlockley |
ya, i just stuffed every slot it had with ram |
| 00:23 |
|
Cprossu |
hahaha |
| 00:23 |
|
tlockley |
8 slots FTW |
| 00:23 |
|
Cprossu |
that's a lot of slots |
| 00:24 |
|
tlockley |
not to mention you can upgrade the xserve to have 2CPUS |
| 00:24 |
|
tlockley |
there is an extra ZIF slot |
| 00:24 |
|
angy |
G5? |
| 00:24 |
|
tlockley |
yep G5 xserve |
| 00:24 |
|
Cprossu |
is there a VRM involved or can you sacrifice another xserve for the purpose? |
| 00:24 |
|
tlockley |
VRM? |
| 00:24 |
|
angy |
I have to dig my pile of useless crap, I think I got some of them |
| 00:24 |
|
Cprossu |
voltage regulator module |
| 00:24 |
|
angy |
no VRM in xserv |
| 00:25 |
|
tlockley |
though i think you need to have matched clock speeds |
| 00:25 |
|
tlockley |
or i assume |
| 00:25 |
|
angy |
you have to |
| 00:25 |
|
Cprossu |
bus/clock speed probably |
| 00:25 |
|
angy |
I only know alpha that can go with different clock speed |
| 00:25 |
|
Cprossu |
because the bus speed was varaible on the g5 |
| 00:25 |
|
Cprossu |
if I recall |
| 00:26 |
|
tlockley |
huh, never knew that |
| 00:26 |
|
angy |
I don't think it was on the server |
| 00:26 |
|
angy |
but I'm not sure |
| 00:26 |
|
tlockley |
all i know is that you can by new CPU modules online |
| 00:26 |
|
angy |
I bet you got 2.0GHz G5 |
| 00:27 |
|
tlockley |
i believe i did |
| 00:27 |
|
tlockley |
i know i have a 1.6g solo for a g5 desktop |
| 00:27 |
|
angy |
I'm sure I'll find 1.8 & 2.5 G5 |
| 00:27 |
|
angy |
I'm sure I got somewhere at least one G5 |
| 00:28 |
|
angy |
I certainly got a boat lot of G4, but useless |
| 00:28 |
|
tlockley |
ya |
| 00:28 |
|
angy |
single proc xserve were only at 2.0 |
| 00:28 |
|
tlockley |
thats funny that correy was lolin ove 7G of ram |
| 00:29 |
|
angy |
it came with 256 if I recall well |
| 00:29 |
|
tlockley |
I want to put like 12 or 16 in my intel xserve |
| 00:29 |
|
angy |
or 512, I don't remeber |
| 00:29 |
|
tlockley |
the g5 i sent was 1g standartd |
| 00:29 |
|
tlockley |
2 512 modules |
| 00:30 |
|
angy |
that would have been the G4 with 256 |
| 00:30 |
|
tlockley |
o |
| 00:30 |
|
tlockley |
i do have a g4 xserve in the basement |
| 00:30 |
|
angy |
the G5 can go up to 16GB I think |
| 00:30 |
|
tlockley |
wouldnt be suprised. too bad its DDR tho |
| 00:30 |
|
angy |
intel are like up to 64 or something like that |
| 00:31 |
|
angy |
DDR _ECC_ even worse to find |
| 00:31 |
|
tlockley |
yah |
| 00:31 |
|
tlockley |
I think i swapped the ECC it came with woth normal DDR |
| 00:31 |
|
angy |
it booted? |
| 00:31 |
|
angy |
I'm kind of surprised it did without ECC |
| 00:31 |
|
tlockley |
yah |
| 00:32 |
|
tlockley |
the whole thing is stuffed to the gills with standard DDR |
| 00:32 |
|
tlockley |
my intel is ECC only |
| 00:32 |
|
angy |
I would have bet it won't boot without ECC |
| 00:32 |
|
tlockley |
why not? they are effectively the same |
| 00:32 |
|
tlockley |
just a parity check bit or W/E |
| 00:32 |
|
angy |
pinout is not quite the same |
| 00:33 |
|
tlockley |
no? |
| 00:33 |
|
tlockley |
they looked the same and they fit the same |
| 00:33 |
|
angy |
they will |
| 00:33 |
|
* tlockley |
scratches head |
| 00:33 |
|
angy |
but the server won't have the return of the actual error checking |
| 00:33 |
|
tlockley |
ok |
| 00:34 |
|
angy |
and most of the time, refuse to boot without that return |
| 00:34 |
|
angy |
but I guess apple did not bother thinking people can go without ECC :) |
| 00:34 |
|
tlockley |
they are lazy like that |
| 00:35 |
|
angy |
they don't think you're going to buy your own memory without an apple logo on it |
| 00:35 |
|
tlockley |
I do find it silly tho that their mac pros are ECC only |
| 00:35 |
|
angy |
and priced like 10 times the street price |
| 00:35 |
|
tlockley |
yah 16,000 for 32G of ram... FUCK NO |
| 00:35 |
|
angy |
I agree with apple on that |
| 00:35 |
|
angy |
I do require ECC when I work |
| 00:36 |
|
tlockley |
i have never personally found a need for ECC |
| 00:36 |
|
tlockley |
and i find it to be a little over expensive |
| 00:36 |
|
tlockley |
though i will always put ECC in real servers |
| 00:36 |
|
angy |
I see it rather rapidly, when I use a non ECC workstation, my code is roughly 2-10 time slower |
| 00:36 |
|
angy |
and I got deviation on the end result :( |
| 00:36 |
|
tlockley |
huh |
| 00:37 |
|
tlockley |
that bad |
| 00:37 |
|
angy |
but it's not really a ``common''usage |
| 00:37 |
|
tlockley |
o |
| 00:38 |
|
angy |
I do matrix curve fitting :) |
| 00:38 |
|
tlockley |
ah |
| 00:38 |
|

that is right over my head |
| 00:39 |

I wanted a MacPro, but it was over budget |
| 00:45 |
|
tlockley |
they are way over pricde IMO |
| 00:45 |
|
angy |
after that, I tried to have a Silicon Graphics, but, over budget |
| 00:45 |
|
tlockley |
but the case design on the inside is cool |
| 00:46 |
|
angy |
I think I wanted it at least for 25% on the design |
| 00:46 |
|
tlockley |
on the octo core models the cpus and ram are on a slide out tray |
| 00:46 |
|
angy |
nice |
| 00:46 |
|
tlockley |
yah untill you bend a pin |
| 00:47 |
|
angy |
pin trays? that is insane |
| 00:47 |
|
tlockley |
well its like a mass pin connecotr thing |
| 00:47 |
|
tlockley |
lemme see if i can find a pic |
| 00:47 |
|
angy |
they spend way too much time in design if it's like that |
| 00:48 |
|
tlockley |
totally |
| 00:50 |
|
angy |
I'll look into it in roughly 1-2 years when I'll change my Mac |
| 00:50 |
|
angy |
or a little before if I really go through the touchpad before that date |
| 00:50 |
|
tlockley |
ya |
| 00:50 |
|
angy |
hopefully, I'll have a job by then... |

| 00:51 |

yep |
| 00:51 |
|
angy |
I guess it's for like 3 uses in the whole like of the mac |
| 00:51 |

but i didnt want to call it a maas connecotr cause thats wrong |

I used quite a lot of them when I was into live festival coverage |
| 00:54 |
|
tlockley |
they are called mass as it was onece a standard |
| 00:54 |
|
tlockley |
no pretymuch only whirmwind makes them |
| 00:54 |
|
tlockley |
*now |
| 00:55 |
|
tlockley |
if you bend a pin on that you are sooooooo fucked |
| 00:55 |
|
angy |
we did once, the day before the opening of the festival |
| 00:55 |
|
tlockley |
oops |
| 00:55 |
|
angy |
did a 500km trip to get another one |
| 00:56 |
|
tlockley |
ouch |
| 00:56 |
|
tlockley |
the worst was the origina ones were solder only |
| 00:57 |
|
tlockley |
so if you killed it you had o chop the whole connecotr off |
| 00:57 |
|
tlockley |
*to |
| 00:57 |
|
angy |
and then try to solder everything back to the right position, fun |
| 00:57 |
|

| 00:58 |
|

now they are replaceable pin system |
| 00:58 |

I had boat load of a lot of kind of cable and controller in France, but i think all that stayed in my studio when I gave up that part |
| 00:59 |

well the most experience i have with a digi console is a prosonus studiolive 16.4.2 |
| 01:07 |
|

I really know only soundcraft and yamaha |
| 01:07 |
|

which would be a killer console if it had flying faders |
| 01:07 |
|

:) |

i would almost go as far as to say to be digi there has to be flying faders |

I have to translate flying faders before getting what it is |

| 01:10 |

angy |
nearly all the console I ever used have it |
| 01:10 |
|
tlockley |
exactly |
| 01:10 |
|
angy |
I even had it on analog |
| 01:11 |
|
tlockley |
really? |
| 01:11 |
|
tlockley |
i have never used an analog console with flying faders |
| 01:11 |
|

and i have used some big consoles |
| 01:11 |
|
angy |
the Ghost is a pure analog console, but midi controllable |
| 01:11 |
|
tlockley |
interesting |
| 01:11 |
|
angy |
and you can record mixing steps |
| 01:11 |

I used to somehow "pre"mix some things when they where recorded |

| 06:31 |
|
CaptainNiobe |
he would have been better having it out in the open, the infinate fire thing does work, the issue in that vid was, flammible materials too close to teh stone surrounding the fire (more) |

| 06:34 |
|
CaptainNiobe |
the reason an infinite fire works is, when you light the material, the stone burns for a short time, then extinguishes itself, leaving the log burning but the surrounding area not... in that video, there was too much flammable material where it could catch from the stone, had he moved it to set the fire, he would have been right, he would have had his never-ending flame (never-ending because it needs flammable m |

oh |

current server is a dual Xeon 3.06GHz with 2GB of ram, not keeping up at all |

yNos |
what is flat topping, memory or proc? |
| 12:15 |
|
Sgt_Lemming |
both |
| 12:15 |
|
Sgt_Lemming |
we have the minecraft server set to use no more than 1.8GB, to allow some left over for basic system tasks |
| 12:15 |
|
yNos |
is lack of ram causeing swapping, killing the proc io? |
| 12:15 |
|
Sgt_Lemming |
it chews that and asks for seconds, then the cpu's are regularly getting topped out |
| 12:16 |

doesn't seem to be swapping much |

i still dont see why mojang just doesent upgrade to compiled code |
| 14:39 |
|
pegasus |
the best use of CUDA in minecraft would be vector transforms for relative camera movement |
| 14:39 |
|
Sgt_Lemming |
because that would require compiling it to suit each platform |
| 14:39 |
|
Sgt_Lemming |
which is JAVA's one huge advantage in that case |
| 14:39 |
|
pegasus |
it would also require porting it to something else, because compiled java isn't. |

There have been comments about copyrighted music that caused the GGR radio stream to stop for a couple days. There were people who just HATED the music. So...it was suggested that we take it off the air. |

pretty much all you need to know is that SHA-256 is fast |
| 17:53 |
|
pegasus |
your salts are stored plaintext |
| 17:54 |
|
pegasus |
because your hashing function is fast, you can crack the salted hashes fast |
| 17:54 |
|
pegasus |
you want a slow hashing function |
| 17:54 |
|
angy |
and you want to make people wait 10 seconds for a door to open? |

it's a little more complicated than just SHA256 |
| 18:01 |
|
angy |
I'll have to retrieve the code that generate it, but it's theorically designed to be rainbow table resistant |
| 18:01 |

it is rainbow table proof |

if the salt is an additional secret, that's somethign else to find |
| 18:03 |
|
angy |
I think it uses a random salt |
| 18:03 |
|
pegasus |
a random salt would be combined with the hash somewhere |
| 18:04 |
|
pegasus |
for example |
| 18:04 |
|
pegasus |
$1$/Z.1/FLm$L2cR/0VauT1aAuvPaX0NE/ |
| 18:04 |
|
angy |
depending on what random mechanism you use |
| 18:04 |
|
angy |
if you use predictable pseudo-ranomian, you can skip that including part |
| 18:04 |
|
angy |
but I don't think this one uses that kind of tehcnique |
| 18:04 |
|
pegasus |
/Z.1/FLm = the salt, L2cR/0VauT1aAuvPaX0NE/ = the hash |
| 18:04 |
|
Cprossu |
point is if there's information that important to encrypt it that way, don't put it on a computer attached to a network =P |
| 18:05 |
|
Cprossu |
with $600 of commodity parts I can break damn near anything within a couple of years. |
| 18:05 |
|
pegasus |
so to check the password, you do hashingfunction("/Z.1/FLm".$password) |
| 18:05 |
|
Cprossu |
yay for moore's law |
| 18:05 |
|
angy |
years is not my timeframe |
| 18:06 |
|
pegasus |
Cprossu: you can do it a fuckton sooner than that if he's using SHA-256 |
| 18:06 |
|
Cprossu |
way sooner |
| 18:06 |
|
Cprossu |
I said "damn near anything" |
| 18:06 |
|
Vladdeh |
just to jump in to add this quickly |
| 18:06 |
|
angy |
hum... forget that particular hash |
| 18:07 |
|
pegasus |
by all means, Vladdeh |
| 18:07 |
|
Vladdeh |
you say salts are to prevent rainbow lookups |
| 18:07 |
|
angy |
it uses hyperbolic non linear curves |
| 18:07 |
|
Vladdeh |
but some things use the account name as the salt |
| 18:07 |
|
Vladdeh |
*cough* windows |
| 18:07 |
|
pegasus |
account name as salt is insecure, obviously |
| 18:07 |
|
Cprossu |
*cough* |
| 18:07 |
|
Vladdeh |
so you just need a rainbow table salted to "Administrator" and you're set for windows |
| 18:07 |
|
pegasus |
but it does make it mildly more difficult, as an account name has entropy |
| 18:07 |
|
Cprossu |
then again Vladdeh give me any windows computer with physical access and I can break it |
| 18:08 |
|
Vladdeh |
true :p |
| 18:08 |
|
pegasus |
right, the Administrator account is boned. |
| 18:08 |
|
Cprossu |
their permissions systems suck Vladdeh |
| 18:08 |
|
pegasus |
you can rename the Administrator account, though |
| 18:08 |
|
pegasus |
fixes that |
| 18:08 |
|
Cprossu |
not really |
| 18:08 |
|
pegasus |
not really what |
| 18:08 |
|
angy |
in fact, administrator stay even if you rename it |
| 18:08 |
|
angy |
that's fun |
| 18:08 |
|
Cprossu |
just put in a PW nuke cd pegasus |
| 18:08 |
|
Cprossu |
blank out the admin pw |
| 18:09 |
|
Cprossu |
then you are back in business |
| 18:09 |
|
pegasus |
yes, you can do that, but i'm talking about password recovery |
| 18:09 |
|
pegasus |
not system access |
| 18:09 |
|
Cprossu |
pw recovery on a windows box is a moot point though |
| 18:10 |
|
Cprossu |
you could spend 5 hours doing that. |
| 18:10 |
|
Cprossu |
once you get the hash table |
| 18:10 |
|
pegasus |
there are encrypted file areas on some systems that you need the password to get into |
| 18:10 |
|
pegasus |
but most systems, once you have the box, the data is yours |
| 18:10 |
|
Cprossu |
not really on windows |
| 18:10 |
|
Cprossu |
data is yours on 'doze' |
| 18:10 |
|
Cprossu |
no matter what. |
| 18:11 |
|
Cprossu |
for an example if file sharing is enabled game over. |
| 18:11 |
|
pegasus |
i'll google the crypto thing i'm thinking of in a minute, i'm lagging behind here :) |
| 18:11 |
|
angy |
just plug your NTFS drive in any *nix flavor :) |
| 18:11 |
|
Cprossu |
hell even cain and able can take care of any NTFS pw =P |
| 18:12 |
|
angy |
nudge the pw NTFS on the mount driver, you'll have whole access |
| 18:12 |
|
angy |
I think |

tlockley |
ajprog_laptop: ping |

I'd love to see what it uses to crypt the data |

the method it uses is pointless if a workaround is built right into it, am I wrong? |

| 18:15 |

yeah. |
| 18:15 |
|
Cprossu |
expecially if that computer's in a domain. |
| 18:15 |
|
Cprossu |
*especially |
| 18:15 |
|
tlockley |
there is always a workaround in windows |
| 18:15 |
|
Cprossu |
yeah. |
| 18:16 |
|
angy |
they _still_ use lanman? |
| 18:16 |
|
tlockley |
most machines you can nerf with safemode alone |
| 18:16 |
|
Cprossu |
very true. |
| 18:16 |
|
tlockley |
well lanman is depricated in win 7/vista |
| 18:16 |
|
tlockley |
but you can still turn it on |
| 18:16 |
|
angy |
that is so wrong when you read it |
| 18:16 |
|
tlockley |
its just hidden... sorta |
| 18:16 |
|
Cprossu |
there are lots of things you can still turn on in win7/server 08 |
| 18:17 |
|
Cprossu |
and will completely break any kind of virtual idea of security you thought you had |
| 18:17 |
|
Cprossu |
it was so funny when someone broke ms's software signing for an example. |
| 18:18 |
|
Cprossu |
used UAC against itself! |
| 18:18 |
|
Cprossu |
so funny. |
| 18:18 |
|
tlockley |
UAC what a piece of shit |
| 18:18 |
|
Cprossu |
UAC + preconditioning of users to press OK = death. |
| 18:18 |
|
Cprossu |
or excuse me, "allow" |
| 18:18 |
|
tlockley |
i have so many machines that require there be no UAC just to work |
| 18:18 |
|
angy |
and the message it sends are rather cryptic most of the time |
| 18:19 |
|
Cprossu |
yeah I disabled it on my customer's machines the first time I noticed it didn't prevent rootkits from installing themselves. |
| 18:19 |
|
Cprossu |
although I will admit the best piece of software microsoft has made to date... |
| 18:19 |
|
Cprossu |
is security essentials! |
| 18:19 |
|
Cprossu |
it pains me to say it, but it's actually a good piece of software. |
| 18:20 |
|
Cprossu |
especially since the consumer versions of every other AV has gone to the paranoia/subscription/has flaws in it that viruses exploit/ state |
| 18:20 |
|
angy |
I have to say it's been ages since my only windows computer was a VM to use some piece of *beep* softwares |
| 18:21 |
|
angy |
so I did not really care about security |
| 18:21 |
|
Cprossu |
yeah I hear you. |
| 18:21 |
|
Cprossu |
I play too many computer games to escape windows entirely. |
| 18:21 |
|
angy |
I ran most of them on Linux :p |
| 18:21 |
|
Cprossu |
which is why I run xp x64. |
| 18:22 |
|
tlockley |
MSSE is just awsome |
| 18:22 |
|
angy |
never really could bear xp x64 |
| 18:22 |
|
Cprossu |
I like it because everything's broken. |
| 18:22 |
|
Cprossu |
the features of XP I hate don't work |
| 18:22 |
|
Cprossu |
and the features of vista I hate aren't even there |
| 18:23 |
|
angy |
I jumped from xp 64 to 7-64 |
| 18:23 |
|
Cprossu |
and it doesn't take nearly as long to fix the 3d and get it back up and running if I installed 2003 server |

angy |
it's a strip down version of windows 7 enterprise |
| 18:25 |
|
Cprossu |
of course it does pegasus |
| 18:25 |
|
angy |
way more striped that what you can do with nlite or something like that |
| 18:25 |
|
Cprossu |
and there's also a master key iirc |
| 18:25 |
|
pegasus |
if you could provide a reference for that, i'd be appreciative |

the main way I knew of to remove the encryption was this pegasus |
| 18:28 |
|
Cprossu |
0) make copy of hdd in case 1) nuke user pw on copied hdd, 2) login user, 3)unencrypt |
| 18:28 |
|
angy |
you need to have just the right hardware, there are a few build in drivers, and no way to install other ones |
| 18:28 |
|
Cprossu |
I've done it that way more than once. |
| 18:28 |
|
pegasus |
as i understand it, that'll attempt to decrypt and report success, but it should decrypt wrong |
| 18:28 |

pegasus |

| 18:28 |
|
tlockley |
interesting angy |
| 18:29 |
|
angy |
call you microsoft HPC support :) |
| 18:29 |
|
tlockley |
lol msdnAA offers MS-DOS6 |
| 18:29 |
|
Cprossu |
yeah they do |
| 18:29 |
|
Cprossu |
and win 3.1 and 3.11 |
| 18:29 |
|
Cprossu |
and other stuff too |
| 18:29 |
|
Cprossu |
6.20 was the best imp |
| 18:29 |
|
Cprossu |
*imo |
| 18:30 |
|
angy |
I think I can have nearly all the microsoft lineup from msdn (not msdnAA though) |
| 18:30 |
|
Cprossu |
6.22 had fewer features if you installed fresh |
| 18:30 |
|
pegasus |
https://secure.wikimedia.org/w[…]ia_password_reset |
| 18:30 |
|
angy |
we have workstation that run MS-DOS something to use with the CNC |
| 18:31 |
|
tlockley |
AA only really has mainstream stuff |
| 18:31 |
|
angy |
I think I still have one access to msdnAA somewhere |
| 18:31 |
|
tlockley |
i left college and still have my msdnAA |
| 18:32 |
|
angy |
the credentials are reset like in may no? |
| 18:33 |
|
pegasus |
"The stored copy of the user's private key is ultimately protected by the user's logon password. Accessing encrypted files from outside Windows with other operating systems (Linux, for example) is not possible" |
| 18:33 |
|
pegasus |
"Further, using special tools to reset the user's login password will render it impossible to decrypt the user's private key and thus useless for gaining access to the user's encrypted files." |
| 18:33 |
|
tlockley |
so if you have an xp box with sharing the password is easy with a LM hash crack |
| 18:33 |
|
tlockley |
or if you want to share win7 to xp same deal |
| 18:35 |
|
pegasus |
win7 to XP works without LM hashes |
| 18:35 |
|
pegasus |
you don't need LM hashes until you get down to 98SE or earlier |
| 18:35 |
|
tlockley |
not in my experience |
| 18:35 |
|
tlockley |
i have always needed to turn on LM for 7 to xp sharing |
| 18:36 |
|
pegasus |
we've got 7 and XP in this house, and LM hashes disabled everywhere |
| 18:36 |
|
pegasus |
sharing works fine |
| 18:36 |
|
pegasus |
also samba |
| 18:36 |
|
tlockley |
heh, whatever. i really could care less about windows |
| 18:36 |
|
pegasus |
just saying |
| 18:37 |
|
tlockley |
i have a windows machine that only runs games and thats it |

pegasus |
my windows box runs trillian, putty, chrome, pandora/sproxy, and steam. |
| 18:37 |

pegasus |
