16:12 mgage__ aubreyja: hi
16:12 aubreyja Hi -
16:13 mgage__ I'm headed out for CA in about 2 hours so I'll be off the grid until at least this evening
16:13 mgage__ most things seem to be going pretty well.  I reminded JT to round up stagglers for the WeBWorK::Winona code camp
16:14 aubreyja Have a nice trip -

16:48 mgage__ aubreyja: hi again
16:49 mgage__ ok -- just talked to Vicki and got caught up -- also I see the post from tyler about biblio stuff -- that sounds really good -- I'm in favor of trying it.
16:58 aubreyja Hi - just replied to Tyler
16:59 mgage__ looks good.  It's ok with me if we abandon the moodle database if we have something better.
17:01 mgage__ the library discussion seems to be going well in general -- I worry a little that some aren't thinking big enough -- in particular about how to use a possibly new database to replace a lot of kludges that we've developed over the years.  Djun is definitely thinking large enough and perhaps Tyler and we should keep track of their ideas.
17:02 mgage__ I liked the mungoDB suggestion that Grout made (perhaps better than couchDB which David came up with)  -- the idea that each node is json directory could be useful.
17:04 mgage__ You could have a descriptor describing the type of edge to the parent (variant, bug fix etc.) and also one describing the kind of node (problem, random problem, problem with auxiliary files, alias pointing to a real problem, gateway quiz problem (with variants), and so forth) -- it seems to me this opens up a lot of possibilities
17:06 aubreyja Yes, I like the idea of nosql databases for this- I experimented a while back with couchDB, and I don't understand the differences between the two. I think mongodb is much more popular now (although couchdb was at the time I was looking at this).  Probably mongodb is where we would want to put time now
17:08 mgage__ using it for the library is a good start -- it's semi independent.  if it works well we can see about folding WW around a nosql database as well
17:11 aubreyja I hadn't considered using it for the application as a whole, maybe that would work too
17:12 mgage__ that can wait -- just something to keep in mind
