14:07 mgage hi
14:09 yoavfreund Hi, newby here, can someone explain how to add a new problem .pg file that I have on my computer to a problem set on an account I have on the MAA server? I added the files to a directory under Templates, similar to the other problems that I have gotten from the Library. But I seem to be missing the associated .def file.
14:15 aubreyja Hi - people are coming to look at our house, so I have to leave, but I'll be on later or follow up by email if Mike is not around to help
14:15 yoavfreund Thanks!
14:17 mgage yoavfeund: hi -- I'm just finishing packing and headed for balkan camp for the week --but here is some quick help
14:18 mgage 1. on the homework set editor page you can "add a prblem" -- an option at the bottom of the page  and simply type in the address to your .pg problem
14:19 mgage (if you want a new set,    do that from the homework set editor page and then click on the number in the "sets" column to edit the problem sets in that page.
14:19 mgage if it's an existing set you are adding a problem to just click on the number in the "sets" column
14:21 mgage you can also browse by going to the library browser, selecting the "local sets" button and -- set the target set at the top of the page -- then add the .pg files that you want to that set -- (use library browser 1 for this)

14:22 mgage yoavfreund: hi
14:36 yoavfreund Thank you, let me try these suggestions.
14:36 mgage ok -- have fun -- I'm off -- back next week.  ttyl
14:47 yoavfreund Regarding 1. The only option I see at the bottom of the page is "add blank question". So it seems like I should first add blank questions place holders and then replace them with my questions?
15:19 yoavfreund Another question: when composing the text of the question (BEGIN_TEXT to END_TEXT), is there some way to control the font, i.e. use bold-face or underline or color to draw the student's attention to the most important part in the description?
15:38 mgage we have $BBOLD and $EBOLD   $BITALIC  no colors but you could add them -- they are defined in PGbasicmacros.pl (see wiki for browsing the SVN to look at the code

16:26 aubreyja Hi yoavfreund - Did Mike answer your questions?
16:48 yoavfreund Hi Aubrey, yes, I got a partial answer, but I an still not sure what parts of the latex mathematical notation are supported and how I might be able to add my own display macros for supporting, say, item lists. The main problem is that I don't know how to navigate the documentation wiki, the problem libraries and that Git repository...

17:41 aubreyja Hi Yoav - sorry, back. (Our house is for sale and we have two showings today, so I'm constantly cleaning!)
17:41 aubreyja Yes, the documentation is all over the place. There is a lot of it, but unfortunately it's not as well organized as it should be.
17:42 aubreyja Here are a couple of general resources that are very good:

17:44 aubreyja http://webwork.maa.org/wiki/Problem_Techniques

22:11 yoavfreund Seems like \mbox{} does not work inside displayed formulas \[    \]. Is there an alternative?
22:47 yoavfreund After some trial and error I found out that the problem was my use of \{ \}, instead of \lbrace \rbrace .... live and learn
