18:33 pstaab aubreyja: I thought this would be a better way to chat than via email.

19:37 aubreyja pstaab: Ah, hey - thanks for testing it!  I just pushed some better error handling and I realized I should make apt-get update the repos list and upgrade existing software before installing the new stuff.  Let me run a test before you try again.
19:38 aubreyja btw, I recommend saving the state of the machine right after you have a fresh install -that way it's easy to start over without having to reinstall ubuntu each time.
19:38 pstaab Okay.  I'll try it from my current state.  and then I'll also try from a fresh install.
19:39 aubreyja one thing is that if the webwork db exists it will die when it tires to create it.  I need to check that but haven't gotten around to it yet
19:40 aubreyja but, you can just log into mysql as root and do DROP DATABASE webwork;
19:41 pstaab I'll do that.
19:41 pstaab Let me know when you want me to give it another go.
19:41 aubreyja mine is running now, so give me about 20 to make sure there are no obvious problems
19:43 aubreyja and pstaab - you don't have a .cpan directory?
19:43 pstaab I did.  It didn't have a log file in it.
19:44 pstaab I think I was poking around it in at the bottom of that terminal dump I posted.
19:45 aubreyja ah, ok, wondering why not all cpan modules installed.  If you clone the ww_install repo you could run the intall_prerequisites.sh script now - it's certainly going to work and might make it clear why the cpan modules didn't install
19:49 pstaab I'm running install_prererquisites now.  It seems to be doing a full update of software.

19:52 pstaab Did you just clone yourself?
19:54 aubreyja_ yeah, they're doing maintenance in my office so I jumped over to my laptop.  Oh, and I cloned myself.
19:55 aubreyja_ the error handling I added will make it easy for me to have the script write out an install.log and and install-error.log
19:55 pstaab Isn't the summer great.  It's actually the time we can get stuff done, but there's always distractions.
19:55 pstaab I was in my office yesterday and visited the library.  The jackhammering was just a tad overwhelming.
19:55 aubreyja_ yeah, can't' complain even though this summer is busier than usual
19:56 aubreyja_ right, and all of the convenient streets seem to be closed
19:57 pstaab Arnie just emailed the ww develop group.  We should check if he's got a fresh copy of the script.
19:57 aubreyja_ man, one oversight and I'm screwed!
19:58 pstaab I seem to be in a loop because the wwadmin user exists already. Do you know the command line was to drop a user?
19:59 aubreyja_ it should let you say "change my answer" and then "wwadmin user already exists"...
19:59 pstaab Never mind I wasn't reading.
20:03 pstaab looking good, its running OPL-update
20:03 aubreyja_ cool
20:10 aubreyja_ finished successfully for me
20:10 pstaab It worked!!
20:10 aubreyja_ awesome!
20:10 pstaab Only trouble is that since FF was already running, it gave an error.
20:11 pstaab I'll try a clean install later.  Probably don't have time right now.
20:16 aubreyja_ ah, good feedback - what was the error message?

20:36 aubreyja Hi Paul_Pearson - any luck?
20:53 Paul_Pearson aubreyja Is it OK to leave the mysql password empty?
20:54 Paul_Pearson I made it nonempty before and had some trouble accessing the mysql database.
20:55 Paul_Pearson I am in the process of starting over again from a clean virtual machine.
20:55 aubreyja Hmm - good question - I *think* it should be ok but it is a boundary case
20:56 aubreyja Actually, I think it's up to the perl DBI if it's ok.  I'm sure it's ok with mysql itself
20:58 Paul_Pearson OK.  After the linux security updates finish, I will try again and use a nonempty mysql password.
