14:06 mgage goehle: I never got back to you yesterday -- do you still have a question?
14:06 goehle yeah
14:06 mgage ok
14:06 goehle go to
14:07 goehle http://polaris.cs.wcu.edu:8080/webwork2/TestCourse
14:07 goehle and log in with
14:07 goehle teststud/teststud
14:07 mgage ok
14:07 mgage done
14:07 goehle check out any of the homework problems
14:07 mgage ok
14:08 goehle I just want someone to glance over the mathview editor
14:08 goehle its not fully functional
14:08 goehle but all of the graphical components are in place
14:08 mgage kk
14:09 mgage looks pretty good -- the location of the pop-up may need to become  smarter.
14:09 goehle that could be tough
14:09 mgage on my machine at the moment I'd like it to pop up lower and below the answer blank --
14:10 mgage but I'll bet there are other instances where I'll want a different placement
14:10 goehle hmm
14:10 mgage it doesn't have to be done right away
14:10 mgage can you make it draggable -- that was one of the advantages of the earlier mathview
14:11 mgage if it popped up off screen you could drag the pi to position it
14:12 mgage by the way -- just to be safe I'd switch over to using the develop branch of pg instead of 2.7 -- there probably isn't much difference but it might save some confusion later -- your current installation is using pg 2.7
14:13 goehle ah sure
14:13 goehle will do
14:14 goehle i'll look into making it draggable
14:14 mgage that will be more than enough for now.  I like the icon
14:14 goehle its a bootstrap thing
14:14 goehle getting this all to work in math3 might be tricky
14:15 mgage I'm trying to regularize the js library -- at least for now
14:15 goehle I get the feeling that will be an ongoing thing
14:15 goehle oh, in case you didnt know
14:15 goehle jquery-ui should be loaded before bootstrap
14:15 goehle was dealing with that the other dya
14:15 mgage I'd get it to work in math4 first -- then we'll see how much we want to back port to math3  -- or perhaps we have a math5 that behaves like math4 and uses those tools but has some of the look of math3
14:16 mgage ok -- I'll remember that -- at the moment I'm just dealing with locations.
14:16 goehle yeah
14:16 goehle i didnt want to wade into that
14:16 mgage it looks like bootstrap doesn't always play all that nicely with others? or is that not an accurate perception
14:16 goehle but I will mention that some of the stuff in "legacy" is pretty core
14:17 goehle um, well bootstrap depends on jquery, which is why it has to come second
14:17 goehle and bootstrap and jquery-ui implement a lot of the same stuff
14:17 goehle so they do conflict
14:17 mgage yes -- I don't think peter was aware of that -- I'm keeping the name legacy at the moment -- but it's accumulating some of the earliest javascripts  we used -- perhaps when I'm done I'll rename it core.
14:18 goehle yeah
14:18 goehle thats a tough one, because some of it should go away
14:18 goehle (like tabber, eventually)
14:19 mgage I see -- is there any chance of making a decision to use bootstrap but not jquery-ui? or is there always something you need from one that is not in the other?
14:19 goehle I think we will have to live with both.  jquery-ui is used for the datetime stuff
14:20 mgage I've left tabbed there for the moment -- do you use it at all? if not I can put it in the delete-me   directories. (which will not be deleted any time soon)
14:20 goehle and a couple of other things
14:20 goehle and bootstrap doesn't do that
14:20 mgage does bootstrap have a date time replacement?
14:20 goehle not that I know of
14:20 mgage kk -- nevermind
14:20 goehle http://tarruda.github.io/bootstrap-datetimepicker/
14:21 mgage kk -- I've saved it .  won't do anything with it just now.
14:21 goehle as for tabber, right now the bootstrap tabs are implemented via math4 on top of the existing tabber stuff
14:21 goehle until math3 goes away and I can implement the tabbing at a lower level we will have to live with it
14:22 goehle so its not delete-me, but its not core code eather
14:22 mgage sometime soon we'll have a marathon .js library discussion and plan some of this stuff out.
14:22 goehle either
14:22 mgage kk about tabber
14:22 goehle true
14:22 mgage I'll leave tabber where it is for this round.
14:24 goehle I was also wondering if there was any scholarship opportunities in anything we are doing here.  Is anything new/different/interesting enough to try and publish somewhere
14:32 goehle ok
14:32 goehle hard reload that page
14:33 goehle you should be able to drag the popover around by clicking on the title bar
14:35 mgage yep -- works nicely -- should put a dark bar across the top or some visual indication of the handle you use to drag.
14:35 goehle I changed the mouseover on the title to be a move icon
14:35 goehle is that enough?
14:36 mgage I'm getting a hand icon which is often a select cue
14:36 goehle try to reload again
14:36 mgage ok -- that's better
14:53 goehle oh another question
14:53 goehle is there a good webwork way to check if mathjax is installed
14:54 goehle or should I just use perl commands to check for the existance of the js file
14:55 mgage you can tell whether mathjax is being used (that's in displayMode ) I don't know if you can tell whether it's actually been loaded or not
14:55 mgage I think it is habitually called to be loaded, even when it is not used but I don't think there is a record of whether that call actually worked
15:10 mgage goehle:  I've just submitted a pull request about rearranging the .js files (I also sent you an email)
15:11 mgage afk

17:22 mgage back
17:23 mgage goehle: hi
17:23 goehle hey
17:23 goehle check out the editor now
17:23 goehle I think its more or less fully functional
17:23 mgage kk -- could you look at my pull request sitting on openwebwork/webwork2
17:25 goehle will do
17:25 mgage kk -- I don't see the math view icon at http://polaris.cs.wcu.edu:8080/webwork2/TestCourse/NewSet/2/
17:25 goehle I want to get this to a decent stopping point
17:25 mgage kk
17:26 goehle caught me in the middle of editing something
17:26 mgage did you turn the math view toggle on?
17:26 goehle refresh and try it again
17:26 goehle (no compilation erros)
17:26 goehle (this time)
17:28 mgage I was expecting to be able to enter numbers in the field at the bottom of the equation editor (like math view did)
17:29 mgage got to go to talk now
17:30 mgage other comment -- if you create something like  abs() you should place the cursor between the ()
17:34 mgage joined #webwork
17:37 mgage perhaps put the move icon in the upper left corner -- that's where I would expect it -- and the cross in upper right  and the other words Equation Editor and Operations a bit lower in the head bar.
17:49 goehle hey
17:50 goehle so I got rid fo the text bar in the bottom
17:50 goehle now you just use the input bar
17:50 goehle (i.e. the regular input field for the problem)
