14:03 goehle hey mgage / mgage_
14:03 mgage_ hi
14:04 goehle so I played around with table widths on the past answer page
14:04 goehle the problem with a min table width is that anything big enough to be reasonable for an essay style answer
14:04 goehle is too big for a short numerical or multiple choice type answer
14:05 mgage_ hmm.
14:06 mgage_ I haven't had a chance to play with my example directly -- where is the 81px being set? in math4 theme?
14:06 goehle I woudl have to see the developer tools
14:06 goehle but my guess is that it isn't being set
14:06 goehle not directly
14:07 mgage_ what is interesting is that the format for grading the answers looks very nice --- it's just on the past answer page that things look a little weird.
14:07 goehle well whats going on is that at some point the problem changed
14:07 goehle so before the problem had a bunch of numerical answers
14:08 mgage_ I think I'lll have a chance to look more closely today -- I've been catching up on the linear programming course itself.  i'm giving a midterm next week.
14:08 goehle the past answers table has as many columns as the most number of answers in one of the past answers
14:08 goehle if that makes sense
14:08 mgage_ I see -- and the numerical answers set the width?  The problem has both numerical answers and essay answers
14:09 goehle unless you set it manually, the table column widths are set dynamically
14:09 goehle based on the number of columns and the amount of text in each column
14:09 goehle the past answers page looks fine
14:09 goehle because its only showing the most recent answer from all the students
14:10 goehle rather the problem grader page
14:10 mgage_ I think I see.   Give me a chance to work with it a bit and see what the best behavior would be for my particular use case -- then we can figure out what compromise would work for general use.
14:10 goehle it might also be ok
14:10 mgage_ I see.
14:10 goehle right
14:10 goehle or you can send me some more data about your use case and I can try and reproduce it hear
14:10 goehle here
14:10 goehle it would be possible to put a special class on essay type answers
14:10 goehle and have those columns get a min width
14:11 mgage_ ok -- I'll do that also when I get a chance.  I want to finish getting the midterm prepared first
14:11 mgage_ in general the essay answers have been pretty useful.
14:11 goehle oh, and something else is that on the answer grader page I think the different answers are all put in their own row
14:11 goehle so the numerical answers and the essay answers aren't comepeting for horizontal space
14:11 goehle nice
14:11 goehle good to hear

14:13 goehle the webwork paper I wrote is on there
14:13 goehle if you scroll down a bit
14:14 goehle I'll also take another look at this.  I need to catch up with other stuff first, though.  :P
14:16 mgage_ nice
