17:46 shdw_work goehle, I've been watching my logins as I'm creating accounts, and have not had any more students show up with only a single assignment.
17:47 goehle I confirmed your bug
17:47 goehle its definitely the relogin page
17:48 shdw_work yay, I did something helpful! ;-)
17:48 goehle :)
17:49 goehle have you dealt with mod_expires before?
17:49 goehle I'm trying to decide if using it would improve webwork performance
17:50 shdw_work sorry, no.  I saw your discussion yesterday but I'm not familiar with it.
17:50 goehle no worries
17:50 shdw_work I say rewrite the whole thing in PHP, but that's just me. ;-)
17:51 shdw_work and I don't think I have the patience any more to work with perl long enough to really get comfortable with it.
17:51 goehle I thought node.js was the new thing
17:51 goehle mod_cache is more an apache thing
17:52 goehle its an apache module that adds expires information to headers
17:52 shdw_work ugh I know, everybody seems to be talking about node.js
17:53 goehle well it was ruby on rails a few years ago
17:53 goehle so wait a while and it will be something else
17:53 shdw_work LISP - the retro language of the future!
17:54 goehle sign me up.  I've got my emacs interpreter ready to go
18:39 aubreyja goehle
18:43 goehle hey
18:43 goehle aubreyja
18:44 aubreyja hey - I'm starting on the paper work for a nonprofit.
18:44 goehle sure
18:44 aubreyja How about "The OpenWeBWorK Foundation"
18:44 goehle why not The WeBWorK Foundation.
18:44 aubreyja Also, would you like to be a director?
18:44 aubreyja well, we have openwebwork.org and openwebwork on github
18:45 aubreyja but that was just my first thought (for those reasons) maybe WeBWorK Foundation is better.
18:46 aubreyja If so, have you every been convicted of a felony?
18:47 aubreyja ah, specifically, involving a transaction in securities, consumer fraud, theft by false pretenses, restraint of trade or monopoly in the last 7 years?
18:48 aubreyja So, illegal weapons dealing and running a drug cartel don't count. Also, if any of your prior activities in the CIA ever come to light and result in prosecution, you can still serve as a director.
18:49 goehle one sec
19:07 goehle sorry
19:07 goehle was talking to another professor
19:07 goehle I wouldn't have called those openwebwork either
19:10 goehle I dont remember being convicted of anything
19:17 shdw_work that's good, keep practicing that line...
19:24 shdw_work So as we're converting over, I've heard some feedback from students who like webassign better.  The reason for this is because of the in-system help, various documents and/or videos that show the student how to solve a problem.
19:25 shdw_work just thought you guys might like to know, for comparison.
19:25 aubreyja back - re: openwebwork - Mike picked that a long time ago
19:25 goehle good to know, I suppose
19:26 shdw_work I only have one class still using webwork this semester.  Really sad to see it go.  From my perspective, it was a lot nicer having direct control over the system and being able to create instructor accounts myself as needed.
19:26 aubreyja Yeah, shdw_work - we've got some things like that in the works, but it's never really been a development priority until lately in some cases
19:26 aubreyja Ah, your school is converting to webassign?
19:27 shdw_work yeah they changed books last semester and decided to go with the 'recommended' software.
19:27 shdw_work calc 1-3 are all using it now.  I still have a pre-calc class on webwork though
19:27 aubreyja I see; happens I guess. Marketing.
19:29 shdw_work of course the people who have to maintain the system are never the ones involved in making the decisions.
19:32 goehle eh, webassign does have better textbook integratoin
19:33 goehle webwork is very much for people who want to build their own stuff
19:35 aubreyja yeah, it does
20:47 shdw_work ugh... webassign uses cookies to store data, and they don't bother refreshing the info every time the student logs in.  Driving me nuts.
20:47 shdw_work yes, I'm just venting.
