00:49 Scarecr0w Excuse me please, would it be wrong to ask a question regarding how to learn about contributions to Open source projects in this channel? Like how do i get started or resources I should familarize myself with..?

01:02 supernov1h Um so I've bene asking this for a few days now, but is there a way to branch to new branch X at some commit in a particular branch Y, then edit the state of X such that its next commit looks like a Merge of a branch Z and Y?
01:03 rkazak joined #git
01:04 supernov1h As in I'd like Git to believe there's a common base of each file, when it's probably not going to

01:32 rewt for the first part, you can checkout any commit by hash, and create a branch there with checkout -b
01:32 rewt and for the 2nd part, i believe you'd want to merge Z into that new branch
01:33 rewt so:  git checkout commit-before-Y; git checkout -b X; git merge Z

02:01 supernov1h it completely destroys the code
02:02 supernov1h seems to pick random chucnks from each branch at its own leisure

02:09 supernov1h Nvm guess I have to use one of the old branches and just pretend as though my own code never made it in

02:23 ilmostro what's the easiest way to show the most recent changes and what branch holds the most recent changes?
02:24 mel00010 joined #git
02:25 ilmostro git log shows that for the current branch; isn't there a way to show the graph/chart from terminal?
