13:32 sri it's like half the internet is off to eat turkey
13:37 coolo sri: this is how it must feel for muslims end of december actually :)
13:37 coolo or worse for that matter
13:47 sri or almost everyone from asia
13:47 sri i don't remember turkey day being thing silent last year though
13:47 sri s/thing/this/
13:55 sri i guess it's time for my daily recommendation of the vscode vim extension
13:57 sri it's so much fun to mix vscode-isms and vim commands
13:59 sri who doesn't like vim with multiple cursors? :)
13:59 exp-innit eww gross
14:00 exp-innit people who are happy typing 100@@? ;)
14:01 sri it's so well done, they kept almost all of the default keybinds of vscode working and then just added vim modes and keybinds on top
14:01 exp-innit microsoft do have some quality software engineers
14:01 exp-innit but nothing they produce can be trusted
14:02 nic you and your Twentieth Century opinions :P
14:03 exp-innit i have no response to that nic ☺
14:03 nic at this stage of the game I trust Google a lot less...  but I still use their software and services
14:04 sri when they did bash for windows i started trusting them again
14:04 exp-innit I tried powershell/bash/a few other bits of 'new' windows
14:04 exp-innit i have nothing positive to report really
14:05 sri i mean, they even did bash for windows right and you can get whatever flavor of linux you like best from the microsoft store
14:05 sri *cough* opensuse *cough*
14:05 exp-innit heh that's a name you don't hear often
14:05 exp-innit but this is basically Embrace
14:05 exp-innit soon we shall move into Expand
14:05 exp-innit (Extend?)
14:06 sri considering they want to make tons of money with azure, that would be counter productive
14:06 exp-innit I don't see why, they can't compete against Amazon
14:07 exp-innit well, they can try, but it's an exceedingly difficult task
14:07 sri they are, azure is successful
14:07 exp-innit so was ActiveX, and Windows ME, etc
14:07 exp-innit but I can't imagine Microsoft shareholders being happy giving up their dividends to plough cash into their cloud offering
14:07 exp-innit but maybe i'm wrong
14:07 exp-innit it happens a lot ☺
14:10 sri azure is already the second biggest cloud provider after aws, they are all in
14:10 exp-innit sri: yeah perhaps, but i wonder how many of those were enticed by custom offers
14:11 exp-innit that has always been how microsoft have worked in the past, offer absurd discounts if you use a bundle of stuff
14:11 sri aws made $4.2 billion and azure $1.9 billion i think
14:11 exp-innit but my opinions are firmly 20th Century
14:11 exp-innit sri: from the BI article reporting these numbers, or close:
14:11 exp-innit Still, Microsoft's key advantage isn't necessarily in technology, but rather in its enterprise know-how and established customer base. Lots of Microsoft's biggest customers have contracts with the company that give them steep discounts on its software. Microsoft has been using those agreements to give customers big incentives to try Azure.

15:14 exp-innit is there any accepted idiom for attaching a 'priority' or 'severity' to a flash message?
15:14 exp-innit i'm just going to set it under a different key, but i don't know if people prefer to include structured data in flash
15:24 sri oh, looks like there will be a mojolicious introduction at the london perl workshop on saturday
15:25 sri would be nice if we could help reviewing the examples https://groups.google.com/d/msg/mojolicious/tvi0IaWcthw/7cHJ_Uc9AwAJ
